Whoa, whoa, slow down. First of all, it'd be highly useful which X game you play.
Now, X2 and onwards have a script called the 'Missile Defense Mosquito'. Once activated, this script will automatically intercept missiles targetting you with Mosquitoes.
As for shooting them down with guns, a default turret script (or better yet, MARS) can do that, but for your own weapons, you'll have to rely on your own skill to shoot them down.

Actually in X3TC for example, you can set turrets to two modes, in both they should target incomming missiles.

Er, there's been a Missile Defence turret script built into the game since X2, and it's pretty darned effective--you don't need MARS at all.

No, and yes.

Unless you have a script, the "vanilla" X3TC does not have an auto "anti-missle-missle"..

If you have Flight Command I and II, AND your ship has a rear turret, you can set this turret to "Missle Defense" which will target BOTH missles and enemy ships.. If you set it to Missle ONLY, that's all the turret will target... Good and Bad...

i dont have any scipts/mods installed. my current ship has 4 weapon bays, can i install 1 laeer in one of the bays for missile defense?

and can i also have missiles fire automatically at enemy ships or missiles?

or do i need to install scripts or equipment to do this?

Only a turret can be assigned to shoot down missiles automatically. But any old gun can shoot down a missile, so you can always whip around and spam some fast-bullet weapons at the incoming missiles.

You can only set turrets (all weapons in that turret) to the options of missile defence or missile only. In vanilla X3TC there are no options to automatically launch missiles against missiles (unless it comes out in the bonus pack yet to come). You can individually set the probability that each your ships (other than your personal one) launch missiles against their target enemy ships in fights. Unless you are flying and aiming them personally, ships in vanilla are unlikely to use their fixed forward guns to attack missiles.

Hope this helps.

Use ships with turrets. Even an M5 (!) and some M4+/M3 and then most going upwards from M3+ can have them.

1. With combat software 1 & 2 installed you have several options for each turret. You can set a turret to Missiles Only (not a good idea) or preferably Missile Defence - this will make the turret engage the nearest missile before the nearst hostile ship.

For offensive use (mainly in M6 or bigger) you can select engage my target, attack all enemies or protect ship.

2. If you hit shift c and scroll down the options you will eventually see the option Misslie %. The higher you set this the more missiles you will fire. Be careful with this as the ship will fire far more missile of varying types than you may want it to.

If you don't have a turret, or any scripts, it's still a good idea to intercept incoming warheads with mozzie missiles. Of course you have to target them yourself, but...well... you won't die Razz

I've got a Nova Raider with a single back turret. I actually use IRE for missile defense, as with Combat Mod 3 it has faster bullets than the PRG. It's set to missile only, since the IRE would be too weak to give enough fire support to make up for it, and it would probably end up causing friendly fire if it tried to shoot at ships as well. If it's a particularly dangerous missile I change to PRGs in the main batteries and spray at it until it dies.

Unless it's being flown by the AI that ship doesn't really need missile protection.
