Chapter 14
Peter jumped into the flyer and headed back to the house as Sam replied. “Peter you sent Ben a message telling him you would be by tonight.”
“Yes I did send Kirsch a message tell her I’m own my way but I need to make a stop first.” Peter landed his ship and run over to Ben’s house and mashed the buzzer on the door.
[Ben] “Hay Peter good to see you come on in.”
[Peter] “I’m sorry Ben I can’t I have a business dinner and meeting tonight we’ll have to catch up later.”
[Ben] “Is it the hot chick I understand.” Ben smiled looking at Peter.
[Peter] “I wish it was just us two. No it’s some major players so I have to go. I guess it’s what I get for being a company man.”
[Ben] “We’ll come back when you can we’ll talk later.”
Peter shook Ben’s hand and run back to his house filling bad about not having time to visit. Now it was time to tell Kirsch who was expecting a nice evening alone about the meeting and disappoint her too.
Peter went in the house. “Sam where’s Kirsch?” [Sam] “She’s in the living room on the couch.”
Peter went in the living room. The lights were on low and some soft music was playing as he walked over to the couch Kirsch had a little dress on that made Peter stop and just look at her thinking wow as she stood up and kissed Peter and asked. “Are you hungry or do you want to set here with me for a while?”
Peter pulled her close and held her for a few seconds them kissed her on the cheek and said. “I’m sorry but I have a business dinner to go to.”
[Kirsch] “Can’t it wait for a little while?” As she placed her arm around Peter and kissed him passionately.
Peter stepped back disappointed their night had been disrupted. “No it can’t it’s here and they’re due to arrive any minute.”
[Kirsch] “Well who’s so important that you had to see them tonight of all nights?!”
[Peter] “The Governor, the Argon Security Director, Mrs. Lena and the Companies Security Director. I’m going to show them the Base and have dinner down their with them do you want to join us?”
“And do what?” Kirsch asked as she looked at Peter disappointed about the new plans.
Peter took her by the hand and kissed her. “Set with me and help me be a good host.”
Kirsch smiled and kissed Peter back. “I’ll go put one of my business suits on and get ready.”
Peter watched Kirsch as she went to get ready looking back and smiled at Peter as he turned his head sideways to watch her go up the steps in that little dress that looked so good on her thinking. Bin was right she is hot! Then Peter pulled out his PDA and pulled up the base. “Sam get dinning room in the officers mess ready for our dinner we’ll eat in their and have the androids put their dress uniforms on. Are our guest headed this way yet?”
[Sam] “They will be here in 20 minutes.”
[Peter] “Turn the deck lights on and raise the privacy fence around the deck. How many ships and guards are they bringing?”
[Sam] “One special outfitted TP with six guards and two pilots and a Buster escort.”
[Peter] “I guess it’s a good thing I had that big landing pad made sent them the coordinates when they get close.”
Kirsch came into the kitchen where Peter was looking out the window at the pad. “Are they here?”
Kirsch asked as she walked up behind Peter and but her arm around him.
[Peter] “No I was just looking out. Are you going to be alright in the base last time you said you felt like you was inside of a monster?”
[Kirsch] “I could fill the base was alive. Not dangerous just alive it was strange I could since the weak energy or life in the base like being close to a powerful generator you know you’re not suppose to fill the power it’s making but you can and you know not to touch it just weaker. Does that make any since?”
[Peter] “Yes it does because that what it’s doing. Are you going to be alright it’s not to late to back out if you want?”
[Kirsch] “No I’ll be alright I know it won’t hurt me. Besides we were in a strange place alone and I was a little nervous after you told me your story.”
[Peter] “If you decide you have to get out of their just tell me you need to return to the house and Sam can transport you back up and don’t mention where the Base is. You know I’ve had thousands of people in a base just like it and no one has ever mentioned anything about filling the base was alive.”
[Kirsch] “Did you ask any of them?”
[Peter] “Well no I never did so I guess they may have been others.”
Kirsch smiled at Peter and said. “Then they may have been others that were afraid to speak up.”
Sam announced. “The ships are about to land.”
[Peter] “Let’s don’t talk about it tonight alright.” [Kirsch] “Not a word.”
The two watch as the TP and Buster landed. Peter went and opened the door to the to the landing pad as the group walked to the house. ’Welcome please come on in.”
[Dana] “The two guards want to look at the base before the Governor goes in. Kirsch knows about the base. Who else knows?”
[Peter] “No one just Kirsch and Me.” Peter was reluctant to ask Kirsch to show the guards the base not knowing how she would perform. “The base is empty with no way in or out except my transporter.”
[Guard] “I can’t allow the Governor to go somewhere I can’t get him out of. Sorry sir we’ll have to say no to this tour.”
Dana whispered to the Governor and he replied to the guard. “I’m going to look at the base Mrs. Lena has given me her word that it’s safe and she trust these people with her life. We’re going in! Now post your guards outside and we’ll get on with it. Mr. Stone take us to your transporter.”
The Guard talked into his headset as peter took them into his den and opened a door to a storage room and asked them to go inside then peter closed the door and a second later he opened the door saying.
“We’re here welcome to the base.” The group stepped outside and realized they were no longer in the house but in a different place.
[Guard] “We need to take a quick look and scan the area if that’s alright.”
[Peter] “Governor I’m sure Mrs. Lena told you a little about me. There is advanced equipment on this base I have blockers on to keep them from being scanned so your men will be wasting their time. I will show you all the control room first and you can look at any part or any one on the base from their plus a lot more.”
[Governor] “Lead the way Mr. Stone.”
Peter took then into the control room and started showing the guards how to access the cameras then pulled up the live feed on Planet, Alpha Site and inner system.
[Security Director] “Is that a live feed of the inner system?”
[Peter] “Yes it is.” [Director] “If It is pull up that ship and escort on a monitor.”
[Peter] “Zoom in on the ship and escort give the Director a good view.”
The ID numbers zoomed in on the second monitor as the Director took a gasp as he read the numbers and the zoom pulled back to a wide view of the two ships.
[Director] “That’s them I sent them out two days ago!”
[Peter] “Do you all want to see the base first or eat first?”
They wasted no time in replying. “The Base first.”
Peter took the group on a tour of the base as the group just looked around and asked a couple of questions. He explained about the Base and how the structure was made up of a living material and how it worked setting off several questions. But when they reached the docking bays and ships the questions came like a flood. Peter took them on the support ship and answered their questions one after the other until they stopped. Then when they returned to the main section of the base Peter took them to the dining room and set down as the androids started taking their orders and bringing their drinks and salads the whole behavior of the group changed from business like to open and sociable as they started talking and joking and asking Peter less serious questions like. Where does the bathroom waste go then laughing at the remark. But each took turns asking a few serious question while the other listened very close to every remark and answer. Until the Governor asked if they could be talk in privet for a few minutes.
Peter and Kirsch left the room and waited outside in the hall. After several minutes one of the guards asked them to come back in.
[Governor] “How do you want to proceed we need to be involved and have a say in what goes on. We can’t just supply you with personnel without having a say in what they are doing. And just what are your plans for this base.”
[Peter] “We’re own our own here if we were to come under attack from anyone with a attack fleet we would lose the whole system. My plans are to build a fleet to support your ships if I need to not defend the system. You need to build the ships just like you planed. I plan on being your support if you get into trouble. The sooner you get your ships in space the safer we’ll be. Nothing turns away a thief looking to still faster than a big bad guard carrying a large blaster.”
[Security Director] “What about the base in the nebula what do you know about it?”
[Peter] “I been tracking ships going in and out. I have a probe close to the base but as you see it’s just me and Kirsch and I’m not sending her to go look. I need the personnel to man the base. This is a small secret base just right to run covert missions from and keep a close watch on the system.”
[Director] “You going to bring the personnel for your base to your house? How you plan on getting them in and out without drawing attention to yourself?”
[Peter] “I can cloak my ships and jump directly into the base from about anywhere. Like from the base to outer space and back and no one will ever see anything.”
[Director] “Where are we?”
[Peter] “Deep underground. I’m the only one who knows where it is and I plan on keeping it that way to assure the safety of the ones in the base. The base can transport anyone at any time to the surface. I can place a room at the shipyard just like the one we used to transport personnel back and forth to make it easer on everyone.”
[Director] “That would be a good ideal when can you have it installed?”
Sam relayed the data to Peter. “5 hours in a secure location to make it just like the one here.”
[Governor] “What if we want a base of our own for a shelter to retreat to if we have to?”
[Peter] “I’ll build a shelter just tell me where and for how many.”
[Governor] “Let’s go back up my guard tells me we need to get going but I‘ll be back in three days I want to see the transporter working at the shipyard and Director I want to see some of our people here working when I get back. I’m trusting you Mr. Stone don’t disappoint me. Or should I call you Josh Galen?”
Peter stopped and with a unsettled look on his face saying. “No call me Peter Stone Mr. Governor everyone in this sector knows me as Peter Stone.”
[Governor] “As you wish Mr. Stone it is.”
Everything go’s as planed with the base and after mutual control of the base and ships were agreed on a few weeks later a unstable crewman shot and killed Peter. Two years after that with a new destroyer fitted with advanced technologies from the base the Governor and Teladi Company Director clashed over rights and borders and ended up going to war killing millions in the process until the Governor and human army defeat the Teladi and overthrow their government taking control of the sector. Then the gate reopens to the core sectors and after a investigation into what had happened the Argon condemned the Governor and declared them Pirates.
The Argon and Teladi tried to retake the sector starting a war that ended up killing millions more until ships from Hagion put a stop to the bloody battle destroying the ships and base Peter had entrusted them with.
Peter wakes up as his heart pounds in his chest looking around as Sam ask. “Peter are you alright I have never seen you this way before your vital signs show you to be extremely stressed. I have been monitoring you and the area nothing is wrong.”
Peter looks around and knows he’s back at the Alpha Site. He checks his PDA he and Kirsch are scheduled to return to the shipyard tomorrow.
[Peter] “Sam I just seen the next few years where I get killed and things go horribly wrong.”
[Sam] “I detect nothing unusual anywhere no power surges, wormholes, time distortions everything is normal are you sure it wasn’t a bad dream?”
[Peter] “No I had a vision of some kind it was like I was there somehow.”
[Sam] “You have been here the whole time Commander can I help you somehow? Do you need a sedative to calm you down?”
“No!” Peter replied as he looked at his watch to see what time it was.
[Peter] “Sam I was shown that for a reason I let my guard down and trusted people that I shouldn’t have. Sam start making a list of available recruits to man the base. I’m going get up and take a shower.”
Peter knew one thing he was going to place people he picked and trusted in the base and after the vivid dream he decided to wait and see if the promotion was given to Kirsch and if it was he wan’t going to show her the base. Peter got out of the shower and went to fix him a cup of coffee. “Sam in my dream you didn’t put a coffee maker in the house or base is that right?”
[Sam] “That’s right Peter no coffee makers do you want one at the house and base?”
[Peter] “Yes I do and the cups too. I like the aroma a coffee maker makes when it fixes a cup.”
[Sam] “It’s strange you knew I didn’t make a coffee maker for the house or base.”
[Peter] “Let me tell you what happens when we land.”
Peter explains how Ben calls and what he says and about the new flyer the company gives him and how to he wants the upgrades made so it will look normal. Then Peter tells Sam about the dream from start to finish while the details were still fresh in his memory.
When Peter was finished recording the account he needed to tell the Chief about a shooting he remembered happened after he had returned to the planet.
Peter asked the Chief to have breakfast with him before he left. As the Chief came to the table he sat down and looked at Peter knowing something was up. “What’s up Peter you wouldn’t have asked to see me at the last minute if something wasn’t wrong. You don’t need the men now do you?”
[Peter] “No that’s not it I need to tell you something it may be valuable in helping you solve a crime if it happens. And if it doesn’t it was just a bad dream I had.”
Peter explained what had happened to him and how one of the Teladi mining outpost owners was going to killed in the next few days by a assassin that had been hired by his second in command so she could take his place.
[Chief] “I’ll look into this if it’s true and I save him he’ll owe me big. Big enough to get you the credits to hire a small squad of men for a few years. I’ll sent you a message in a week and tell you what happens. Thanks for the breakfast have a safe trip.” The Chief replied as he headed back to his control room and work while Peter headed for the docks and his ship and Kirsch that was by now waiting onboard.
[Peter] “Is everything done I’m not forgetting anything am I?”
[Sam] “No Commander you’re ready to go. Kirsch is already onboard and ready to leave.”
On the way to the planet this time Peter keep to the course not using the jump drive or revealing the fact he had a secret base but told Kirsch all he knew about her people. Peter looked into Kirsch’s eyes as he held her hand and told her how beautiful she was and how he was glad she was with him.
Kirsch looked at Peter for a second then pulled him up close and kissed him passionately.
Peter pulled back after she let him loose. “Kirsch I would love to date you but we can’t you still consider me to be your owner and not a co-worker which makes it wrong for me. I want to but I just can’t.”
Peter kissed her on the cheek backed of and went to his room and locked the door telling her goodnight.
When Peter got up he was looking over some reports from the company when Kirsch walked up and put her hand on his shoulder and kissed Peter on the cheek saying. “Hello co-worker.” With a smile on her face she fixed herself a cup of coffee and set down across from Peter and winked at him as she got her PDA and opened it. A minute later Kisch got up to fix herself some breakfast and droped something on the deck bending over in front of Peter in stead of squatting down.
[Peter] “You’re not making this any easier you know.”
Kirsch smiled as she reached over and kissed Peter. “I know I’m sorry. I like you Peter for who you are and no other reason. When do we reach the planet?”
[Peter] “We’ll land at the house after lunch sometime maybe seven hours. We can look at the house together it was finished while I was at the Alpha Site and all I’ve seen of it has been on video clips.”
[Kirsch] “Can I look at them?” Peter opened the clips on his PDA and handed it to Kirsch to look at while he fixed himself something to eat.
Everything felt kind of strange to Peter as he passed the station. It was like watching a rerun of a show. Peter docked the ship and Ben called saying the same thing as before the flyer was delivered but this time Peter went in the house and looked around showing Kirsch the house while Sam tried to figure out how Peter had seen into the future while the flyer was being refitted.
The next day went the same as before with the meeting about Kirsch and the mini TL right down to Kirsch coming in and putting a check on Peter’s disk telling him to call her Miss Moon now. Then she kissed and was about to leave when Peter said. “Kirsch I’m going to leave early and go see Ben do you want to have dinner with me at the house?”
Kirsch turned and smiled at Peter saying. “You know I do. I’ve paid my debt back and we’re just co-workers now. I have a meeting with the other station managers. You know I like the way that sounds station manager I’ll see you later.” Kirsch blew Peter a kiss as she shut the door.
[Peter] “Sam tell the front disk I’m leaving for the day and sent Ben a message tell him I’ll be their in a few minutes.” Peter went to his flyer and strapped in when Sam replied.
“The Chief sent you a message with a account number saying he was very thankful.”
[Peter] “How much is it?” [Sam] “Two million credits what do you want to do with the credits?”
[Peter] “Start a new secure account and put the credits in it. I’ll use the credits to finance the base till I get a more secure means of backing.”
