My employer calls me into the bridge and asks me to sit down, not a good sign. He plays small talk for awhile, talking about past boarding ops and how the men are doing, hell I wish he'd just get to the point. I suppose I'm required to stomach it though, our treatment is considered way above the grade and our conditions are above average to say the least. I have heard horror stories about marines being stored in some of the most destitute places possible, places not even fit for cargo much less a life form. And yet they expect the best, nothing but extraordinary results will do. Results, results results. "I need you to capture another Heavy Centaur Prototype." quickly brought me back from my thoughts.
"Whats wrong with the one we're in?" I asked. "Nothing." He said. I always found his lack of elaboration humorous. I guess simple questions deserve simple answers. "OK, why do you want another one?' 'I have another group of marines training over in Rhonkar's Fire and they are currently without a ship. You have told me the HCP has been exemplary for the line of work we're in, or should I say you're in."
Asshole. Always trying to save face. A master of his craft though, which I respect. I still don't understand how someone could steal as much and still sit so high in favor with the races. Although he does leave us in dry dock often, sometimes for mazura's on end, no doubt off greasing the wheels with the credit men and VIP's. His recent splurge in pirating though is somewhat curious to me. I managed to download a copy of his property records and found that with the exception of one, every single ship he owns has been stolen. And these aren't exactly standard M6's or TM's, he has some real high end items here, including a Hyperion Vanguard and the the current HCP we're flying in. But this is hardly the time for speculation. As I sit in my chair I'm really only thinking about two things: 1, why are we stealing a ship for some other crew to use, and 2, why are we using the two Paranid greenhorns we just picked up in Preacher's Refuge to do it.

As soon as I walked out of the bridge another question immediately came to mind: Why did he tell me the op personally? Every other time I find it out as usual through Gu t'Hnt, our Commander along with the rest of our crew. Sort of strange to say the least, something I'll have to dwell on later.
As I walk into the mess area I could tell the rest of the team already knew about the op. I have never been one at reading alien faces but I could tell those two Paranid's looked ecstatic, ready to kick ass and take names. I couldn't help but think of the two marines they were replacing. Brent Weamond and Jako Gilharno, Argons, my people, good fighters and really likeable guys. But now I'm the only Argon on the team. I remember how Gilharno died especially, shot in the back by a wounded officer we overlooked. I thought he was dead, we all thought he was dead, but he raised his arm and shot Gilharno anyway. Hit him right in the small of his back and put a hole through his stomach. He took hours to die, his eyes slowly glassing over while his breathing became more and more strained. He asked me to remember him... that was it. Hardly the grandeur image these two Paranids had in mind I'm sure.
"Terrel, you know of the op? Another HCP, thats great, thats just great." I turned, smiled and said "One is never enough." He grunted and lit up some space weed. Gu t'Hnt was the bad ass type, the kind of marine you respected and trusted and who others looked to for leadership. "I hear we are stealin it for some other crew, probably too green to get their own damn hands dirty" he said. I laughed to myself. His personality mimics that of sandpaper and being a Split he's got the skin to match. A good guy to have on your side though. We've been working together for quite some time now and have gotten out of more scrapes together than anyone I know. More often than not only him and I would be left at the end of an op. I couldn't ask for a better Commander.
"What'd big man want with you?" he asked. "Just telling me about the op." I said. He looked at me oddly and asked "That's all he wanted?" "Yeah, kind of strange I thought. I usually just catch the brief from you along with the rest of the crew. Still trying to figure that one out. Is there something I should know?" Gu t'Hnt paused for a sezura... "Nah" he said. "Best not to worry about it. Who knows what goes on in that head of his." He slapped me on the back and said "Cmon, let's go see what these Paranid rookies are all about."

We didn't get to talk long. Five mizuras later we got a com saying we had to strap in for jump. I personally have never minded jumps but for some reason the other Split on our team, Fui t'Plp, hated them. I saw him walk back out of engineering grumbling to himself, no doubt cursing our employer for his troubles. The two Paranids I found were of the same brood and joined at the same time. Olmanckarsat and Etmanckosset. "Terrestrial life was insanely boring. We knew from a very young age we wanted action, to reach the stars and travel the universe. We really can't wait to grab this HCP!" Gu t'Hnt looked at the floor and chuckled to himself. He sat down and took a long drag of weed before he began. "You know, last HCP we took, this very one we're in right now, we nearly lost the entire team. Me and Hang here are the only ones that walked off the op." He nodded at me and then stared at them for a mizura and said "You two remind me a lot of the ones we lost, only they weren't as green as you are." Noticing the change in their faces, Gu ground out his weed and leaned in close, "I don't want you concentrating on anythin besides what's right in front of you. Argons develop their ships from the ground up and build em strong, often manning them with good fighters and militant captains. You understand me?" They were silent but acknowledged his words with a slight nod.
We began to make preparations for jump and I decided to jostle Fui t'Plp a bit. "You going to hold onto your lunch this time around and not spew like a rookie?" "Drop dead Argon." I smiled. Our relationship was a pretty basic one. Neither of us much liked the other and our interaction would often consist of cliche one liners and put downs. When the job comes though he's straight business, an extremely intelligent marine. His ability to think on his feet and adapt makes him invaluable to the team. He's also one of the calmest individuals I have ever seen, never seems to lose his head or his emotions. He joined Gu and I around a jazura ago and immediately proved his worth. I can never get Fui to talk about it but I'm pretty sure our employer folded him into our team from another that got massacred.
We were all stowed for jump and I commed the bridge, "We're all set here." "Good" was the response. "We are jumping to the Argon sector, 'The Hole'. I have a reliable tip that an HCP is around that area." he said. Then came the soothing voice as a prelude to an event that's anything but soothing. "Jump device charging at 10%, 20, 30, 40, 50%, 60, 70.... "Hold on to your stomach's guys" "Jumping..."

Arriving in 'The Hole', Gu and I got quite a show as we watched our three fellow marines spew all over the floor. "Haha, virgin stomachs" Gu said looking at the Paranids. "You'll get used to it eventually or..." he looked over at Fui, "Maybe not". I unstrapped myself and said "Guess you guys know what you'll be doing for the next few mazura's. Cleaning supplies are in that locker over there." I then proceeded to deck two to check out the extra gravidar terminal, see what's what in 'The Hole'. Our employer just recently installed this terminal so as to have another pair of eyes on the gravidar. A smart move if you ask me especially considering how we can now scan two ships at once. I feel more like a pirate every day.
Checking the terminal the place seems dead. Lots of transports and smaller fighters, no HCP. My guess is is that it only frequents this sector as part of it's patrol. Lot's of wheat farms and similar stations here, not the kind of stations you would attach a prototype vessel to. So now comes the waiting game and the com hisses online to confirm, "We currently have no HCP on the gravidar. However I trust my source so we are going to park up in the middle of the sector and wait." I think to myself 'great'. I hate waiting, it's the worst part of any job I suppose, especially when you know the task you are going to perform could cost you your life. Gives one too much to think about.
I decide to head back down to our quarters. Arriving there I see the three were about finished cleaning up their mess. Gu was off at a table by himself, smoking again as usual. I walked over and sat down, throwing my feet up on an empty chair and crossing my arms. "I hope this damn thing shows up soon. I don't want it to be like that last op" I said. Gu looked at me and then back at the rest of the team. "I hope we don't wait long for their sake." He nodded at Olmanckarsat and Etmanckosset. "The more time goes by the more excited they get, and the more likely they are to make a mistake."
After they finished cleaning up I called the rest of the team over and pulled up the blueprints for the HCP. I sat and listened while Gu went over the basic plan on how to take the ship. "This will be a standard 3 by 2 formation. Hang, Olmanckarsat and I will be up front and Etmanckosset and Fui will be heading up the rear. You watch our backs and stay on us like ugly on Boron." He then began plotting the course through the ship.
"This main corridor here is what we're after. We can access it from starboard, port and beneath the ship. The forward end contains the lift to deck two and from there we can access the bridge. Questions?" "We cannot access deck two directly and go straight to the bridge?" Olmanckarsat asked. "We cannot" Gu responded. "Accessing deck two first is always a mistake. You have to concentrate as much fire backwards as forwards which a five marine unit can't do. You're taking fire from both in front and behind making it much easier for the opposition to pin you down. Once you stop moving you're dead." Gu paused for a sezura before beginning again. "Once we are inside the bridge Hang here will be doing the hack. There are two ways to enter the bridge, Fui and Etmanckosset will take the left entrance and Olmanckarsat and I will take the right." He then looked over our faces, sat down and leaned back in his chair. I then stood up and began going over combat.
"Now our employer usually fries the hell out of our target with Ion D's so our biological resistance is usually light but since this a prototype vessel anything is possible. The mechanical security on the Heavy Centaur is pretty robust and was not changed for the prototype model. We'll be going up against at least 10 to 15 automated turrets. Use your static smoke grenades for cover while you throw your phosphor charges. These will fry the sensors on the turrets allowing you a relatively safe kill. Keep your eyes open and your senses keen. We don't need any casualties. Any questions?" They remained silent. "OK, now we wait."

As I said before, I hate waiting. We all sat there trying to pass the time with small talk and racial jokes but we all knew what was really on each others minds. Last op I was on we waited nearly 24 stazura's. The target was a Heavy Dragon, but not just any Heavy Dragon because I counted about 6 while we were sitting there waiting. This particular HD we were after had a very specific pilot we were meant to "dispose of". From what I understand he was involved in less than shady dealings with other races and known pirates. His own government actually commissioned us as they themselves couldn't charge him with anything substantial. As with any good traitor he had a clean record so the Split government couldn't prosecute or be seen disposing of what the records said was "An Extraordinary Military Pilot" so naturally, they hired out. Dirty tactics to say the least but not all that uncommon. Space is a big place and it's not hard to make things vanish that you want gone. Needless to say we captured the ship, killed the pilot and shot his body off towards the nearest star. As part of our agreement we kept the ship and flew it away from Split territories. We ended up offloading it in Trinity Sanctum at the Paranid shipyard, fetching quite a nice sum. We then headed next door to acquire Etmanckosset and Olmanckarsat who, as I looked over, were now trying to get stories out of Gu.
This down period did give me some time to think a few things over though, mainly what my employer meant by telling me about this op personally. The first thing that comes to mind would be a promotion, not that I would have taken it but I don't think that was it anyway. He wanted to gauge my reactions, but reactions to what? What ship we were going to steal next? Did he expect me to scream and stomp around like a little girl at his request? My conclusion is that he changed his mind about what he was going to say or, through some unknown fault of my own, I somehow failed his stupid little test and nothing would come of it. Either way there was something going on that I didn't know about.
"Why don't you ask Hang there, he was once on a capital ship boarding team." I looked over to see the two Paranids looking at me and Gu leaning back and smiling. Thanks for passing the buck asshole. I walked over and sat down. "What do you want to know?" I asked. Olmanckarsat, who I gathered was the more talkative of the two, immediately started asking me questions. "What capital ships have you guys captured?" "Mostly M7's" I said "but I was involved in an op to take a Boron Ray once." He looked impressed which I admit tickled me, but his next statement was not so well received. "So, you have actually ridden inside a boarding pod then? I hear those things give quite a ride." I looked at the floor and said "I'll never get in one again."
"Why not?" Etmanckosset asked, suddenly interested, "don't they make the operation smoother?" "You might think so" I replied. "Their description does lend them that reputation, but in actual practice..." I trailed off as I went into my own thoughts, recalling the horror stories I had attached to those damn things. I once launched at a Tiger and the computer had miscalculated our thrust and trajectory. We slammed into the side so hard that the crumpling hull caved inward and crushed the head of one of my fellow marines. We had to leave his body twitching in the pod while we continued the operation one marine short. "Yeah?" Olmanckarsat asked. I looked at him blankly and said "Just don't ever get in one." I got up and walked away. There was prep that needed to be done anyway.

"MOVE! GET YOUR ASS'S TO THE AFT AIRLOCK NOW! WE ARE EJECTING IN 2 MIZURAS!" I saw the rest of the team come thundering around the corner towards the airlock with Gu's voice right behind them. "MOVE YOUR ASS'S MARINES! WE ARE TAKIN THIS HCP WITH ZERO CASUALTIES. YOU GET ME?!" "SIR, YES SIR!" we all roared in unison.
Our target had jumped through the North gate about 30 mizura's ago. Our employer waited until it passed us in the center of the sector and then hit the Boost Extension. We were go. From inside I could hear the drone of the PBE's going to work followed by the awful hiss of the ID's. The lights flickered inside the airlock as we waited in anticipation, every second bringing us closer to our objective. We double checked all our equipment and had barely tested our suit comms when the green light inside the airlock began to flash. "15 SEZURA'S! REMEMBER THE ASSAULT PLAN AND YOUR TRAINING AND YOU WILL COME OUT ALIVE!" Gu then flipped the switch notifying the bridge we were ready and the hatch opened.
Absolute silence. Tranquility during an action that's anything but. To gaze at the utter vastness of space, with nothing between it and you except your suit is awe inspiring. Everything else has been standardized to ship/ship and ship/station activity. Marines are the only ones that get to truly taste the heavens. At this very moment I can't imagine myself doing anything else and for a brief sezura, I'm completely free.
The fireworks always seem to kill the mood though, not because their not pretty to look at but because you know they are being shot directly at you. Our employer obviously didn't feel like frying all the turrets on the ship because CIG fire was blaring right past us, the blue glow illuminating the shimmering hull of our target.
Our positioning was good. We were in a relatively tight star cluster heading in from the bottom left when all of a sudden the ship banked and started firing in our direction. "SON OF A FARUCH! HE'S ACTUALLY FIRING AT US!" I heard Olmanckarsat wail across the comms. "KEEP THE CHATTER DOWN." I ordered. "HE'S USING CIGS, COULDN'T HIT SOMETHING AS SMALL AS US IF HE WANTED TO." But just then a streak flashed down the right hand side of my suit and I immediately felt intense heat. "Warning, suit integrity at 60%" I looked down to see my entire right side completely charred. "Damnit" I muttered to myself. I saw our employer now coming in from 3 o'clock with flashes of PBE fire trying to draw his attention. The target HCP banked back to the left and our employer immediately killed his engines, forcing our target to circle around him while trying to land HEPT's from his turrets.
"WE NEED TO GRAB THIS THING ON THE NEXT ROTATION!" Gu commanded. "YES, YOU DO." I heard our employer say. "WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME." He then flashed an image of the gravidar onto our HUD's. As if the situation wasn't stressful enough there was now a Titan and two Centaurs about thirty kilometers away now barreling towards us, probably not the least bit pleased we were trying to pirate one of their military's finer achievements. "ALL RIGHT GET SET, IT'S TIME TO DO OR DIE MARINES! FUI, START THE CLOCK." Gu ordered.
The ship was coming around on his revolution and we were all set, directly in his rotational path. "APPROACHING TARGET SHIP!" I said, beginning the capture log. I saw the front end of the HCP come rolling around, it's front keel gleaming like a knifes edge. "HERE IT COMES. READY YOUR GRAPPLES!" Gu said. "WAIT... WAAAAAAIT... WAAAAAAAAAIT... NOW! FIRE!" We all shot at once, all of us latching onto the lower starboard side of the vessel. "BRING YOURSELVES DOWN TO MY POSITION AND ACTIVATE YOUR MAG BOOTS!" Gu ordered. We quickly retracted our lines, bringing us to the ships hull.
"REACHED TARGET SHIP!" I commed, "BEGINNING TO OPEN HULL!" I watched as Fui and Gu got out their tools and began the procedure. They ravenously tore through the outer hull, leaving a nasty opening to try and close once on the other side. We all scrambled through, "HALF WAY THROUGH THE HULL!" I said as Etmanckosset and I began foaming the opening. Gu and Fui immediately moved to the inner bulkhead and started cutting. Usually they waited and helped patch the outer hole but we were afforded no such luxury this time. We were working furiously, against the clock we were now on. We knew if the Titan caught up to us it would destroy the ship rather than see it fall into the wrong hands. Me and Etmanckosset were scrambling to close the hull when Gu roared, "ALMOST THERE! MARINES CHECK YOUR WEAPONS!" I could see the visor of Etmanckosset begin to steam up as we desperately tried to seal the hole. I had just plugged the last bit of opening and turned to see Fui stand up and ram his boot down through the crude portal he had just made. "BEGIN PRESSURIZATION! DONE! MARINES, GO! GO! GO!"

Hurry and post Moar! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Oh, i once had a ship jump to a diffrent sector with my marines on board!
Ha, 3 sectors away. I thought they all died. Then a Boron voice came over the Comm. "Give me covering fire!" "Deck two cleared!"------"The ship is ours!"
Only one marine survived. 'Hol'Sht'

We entered into a large resistance free room, the room on our own HCP that we used as weapon storage. Here it was some sort of bulk food storage judging from the crates. We dropped down onto one of the higher ones and began to proceed toward the door. "STAND CLEAR! I'M GOING TO BLOW THE HATCH!" Fui said. As I took cover and waited I quickly looked around and something caught my eye, 'Property of the Paranid Military' was inscribed on all the storage crates. "Gu, check this out." I said. He looked at them briefly before saying "It's not our concern. Everyone set your gogs to Ambient Refraction. We don't want to sit blind in our own smoke."
The door exploded outward, ricocheting off the further corridor wall before falling flat. "THROWING SMOKE!" Gu said as he hurled a canister forward. Olmanckarsat began going forward and Gu grabbed his shoulder and forced him back down. "Wait" he said. Just then shots started pouring down the hall. Flashes of green streaked by the door before ending in a shower of sparks as they hit the walls. Gu made a motion that signaled to get ready. I then stepped up and threw a phosphor charge. It detonated and Gu stepped out and began firing. We took our positioning up and began to slowly move down the hall. I was on the left and Olmanckarsat was on the right. Laser fire was all around us and the sound was deafening. "THROWING SMOKE!" I yelled as I threw a second smoke a few meters in front of us. Without thinking I turned to my left and fired. Sparks shot upwards in a cone shape from the helm of a marine who now staggered back into the room he had just came out of and fell to the floor. "NICE SHOT!" Gu said. "KEEP MOVING!"
We reached the end of the corridor, frying and destroying the auto turrets as we went. "I'LL OPEN THE DOORS AND DROP THE LIFT! COVER ME!" No sooner had Fui uttered these words I saw a shadow come running towards us through the haze and screaming. Shots came flying out of the smoke in wild sporadic patterns. Gu stepped forward, raised his rifle, tilted his head to look down the sites and fired. The shot met the marine just as he cleared the smoke and blood fanned out from the back of his head. He stiffened, dropped his gun to the floor and fell to his knees. "DECK ONE, CLEAR!" I commed.
Then to my amazement, Olmanckarsat stepped forward and began firing at the body, yelling obscene phrases as it literally started shredding a part. I threw him against the wall, "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!" He gave me a twisted look and said "Makin sure he's dead." I looked at the body, now almost a puddle on the floor, "He's a marine, just like us you stupid sonofa bitch! That could be any one of us on the floor!" I felt Gu's hand on my shoulder, "Let it go Hang. We don't have time." I released Olmanckarsat with disgust and went towards the lift door Fui now had open. Behind me, I heard Gu say to Olmanckarsat "You pull any kind of crap like that again I'll shoot you myself. You understand me?" "Yes sir." he replied. I turned to see them walking towards the door and Gu added over his shoulder, "You're cleanin him up when we're finished here."
We climbed up the shaft to deck two and waited as Fui set the charges. "Etmanckosset," I said "As soon as that door blows you throw a smoke in. Sit above the door there." He maneuvered into position as the rest of us climbed to the top of the shaft to avoid the blast. I took a deep breath and prepared myself. "BLOWING HATCH!" Fui yelled. A deafening explosion followed by the voice of Etmanckosset shouting "THROWING SMOKE!" Then to everyone's surprise Etmanckosset flew through the door by himself and began firing. We all quickly scrambled down and through the door to see two bodies laying on the floor and Etmanckosset about 20 meters in front of us. "THROWING PHOSPHOR CHARGE!" Gu and I looked at each other and then back down the hall at Etmanckosset. "Damn." Fui said. We all rushed to his side and started laying down suppressing fire.
"COVER ME I'M RELOADING!". "KEEP GOING MEN! KEEP GOIN!" We inched our way forward, disabling the auto turrets and continuing to fire down the corridor. "THERE'S ONLY ONE OR TWO MORE!" Gu said. "KEEP MOVING!" The end of the corridor split into a 'Y' like design and from there it was up the steps to the bridge. "THROWING SMOKE!" I yelled as I tossed a canister down the left corridor. Fire immediately came down the right and barely missed Fui as he hugged the wall. "HANG!" he looked over at me. "I'LL STEP OUT, WHEN I DO, NAIL THAT BASTARD!" I gave him a nod and got ready. I watched as Fui made himself into bait and the shots came. I flew around the corner and fired, hitting the marine three times in the chest. He dropped his gun and leaned against the corridor wall. He turned his back and slid down until he sat on the floor. I flew past him and up the stairs, shooting the pilot as he tried to unbuckle himself. "REACHED CENTRAL COMPUTER!" I said, "BEGINNING TO HACK SYSTEMS!" This was getting all to easy. "SECURITY SYSTEM DISABLED! WE ARE IN!"
I leaned on the terminal and took a long deep breath. I then took off my helmet and turned around to see Olmanckarsat pointing his gun at me.

Um, Olmanckarsat is a Paranid... Not a Boron... So it's the two New Marines that are causing issues, not the experienced Boron.

Let's wait and see who's the villain here, there might be a hostile marine in behind Lieutenant Hang.

I looked at Olmanckarsat in surprise and said "What the hell do you think you are doing?" He gave me a sly look before responding. "I'm sorry Hang. You would have lived along with the rest of your team, but you had to give me grief for that marine down below. Damn Argons, you're all the same. Putting green horns on the job where there should be professionals."
"You sonofa bitch!" I said. "What have you done with the rest of the team?"
"They are fine." He responded. "They are locked out of the bridge without their tools or weapons and will be taken in for questioning. You unfortunately, will not live to see another day."
"I don't understand, what is all this about?" I asked.
"I guess I at least owe you an explanation. Those crates you discovered in the hold are actually cloaking devices, developed by the Paranid military for the Argon. For quite some time now the Paranid and Argon have been working together for a similar cause. What you and your employer have stumbled upon is part of secret government project to create a rift between the Split and Teladi empires. You are a lesser man involved in a greater cause, the outcome of which you cannot even fathom. Nothing personal Hang, but you're in the wrong place at the wrong time"
"So you have been playing us this whole time" I said. "Making us think you're a rookie when you're anything but."
"That's right. I took some considerable risks and I have your commander Gu to thank for keeping me out of trouble. Playing a rookie isn't easy. For about three jazura's now the Paranid have been planting special ops personnel into their military outposts, disguised as mercenaries and marines. A tactic that today has been proven to be worth it's cost."
"You back stabbing bastard!" I yelled. "What is it you stand to gain from all this?"
He simply responded, "Power. Nothing is more profitable than war. If the Split and Teladi go to war we will reap the benefits. The Argon will supply the Split as we supply the Teladi, ever increasing our control through monetary means. We can essentially bankrupt the Teladi and Split to a point of desperation, to where their forces are so thin and scattered from fighting each other that our own governments can walk in and take their sectors with little to no resistance. The universe is on the verge of a new empire Hang. One with an iron will that will dictate all activities for the common good."
"Sounds like tyranny to me." I said.
"Yes, it would." He responded. "To a common individual like yourself who has no grasp of the greater collection of peoples it would seem like tyranny. But what we are attempting to accomplish here is greater than anything that has transpired during the course of the universe. Imagine an empire with the ability to push back and defeat the Xenon. Imagine an empire that could conquer and control the technology of the Khaak. We could essentially end piracy and corruption forever and bring order to the present chaos that grips the universe."
"You're still harming innocent individuals in the process." I said. "Your lies and deceit will cost many unfortunate souls their lives, and for what? So your government, through beguiling and malicious means, can dictate with an iron fist what will and will not transpire in what is now the free spaces of the universe? So you can enslave those under false pretenses to do your will, either corrupt or not? I am sorry, but I reject your conception of a perfect universe. One that, through deceit, sacrifices innocent lives to achieve it's goals and ambitions. You have been brainwashed by a dream that will never succeed. Tricked by those higher than yourself into believing in a vison that is nothing more than a fallacy."
"I do not expect you to understand Hang. Which is why I cannot allow you to live. I am sorry, but your time has expired."
He raised his rifle and prepared to fire, but at that exact moment we were both knocked to the floor.

I sprang on him before he reached his rifle. He immediately threw his head back and struck me in the face. I felt warmth in my nose and my eyes began to water. I then felt his elbow swing around and strike me in the jaw. He then bucked and I flew off him as he started scrounging again towards the rifle. I dove behind the comm terminal just as he fired. Sparks flew as the ship comm hissed and crackled. "THERE'S NOWHERE TO GO HANG! IT'S OVER FOR YOU! DO YOU THINK YOU AND YOUR LOWLY EMPLOYER ARE GOING TO STOP THE MACHINATIONS OF THE ENTIRE PARANID AND ARGON EMPIRES!? YOU'RE A FOOL HANG! COME OUT AND DIE LIKE A MARINE!"
I saw my rifle, it was 5 meters away behind the pilots chair. Dammit. Sooner or later he was going to realize I didn't have it and would walk right up and fry me. I pulled my knife from my boot and stood crouched behind the terminal. "IT'S OVER HANG!" He yelled again. "JUST COME OUT AND DIE!" His voice was getting closer. My mind raced furiously. Whatever chance was given to me I had obviously squandered it. He had a gun and I didn't. I was going to die. "DON'T WORRY HANG, WHEN YOU'RE DEAD I'LL CALL YOUR MOTHER AND TELL HER HOW YOU DIED, LIKE A COWARD!"
Call my mother, call my mother... comm... at that moment I remembered the ships comms and the noise it had made when the terminal was damaged. I patched my suit comms into the ships and screamed. A blaring, deafening hiss roared over the comm system as I shot up to see Olmanckarsat wincing from the sound. I had my moment. I flipped my knife around and threw. It hit him dead center in his middle eye and he let out an ugly sound as his reflexes started firing his rifle. He fell backwards as the bridge was lit up in a hail of sparks and hot shrapnel, and then, all was silent. I stood there for a mizura and looked at Olmanckarsat, "Piece of garbage" I said to myself. But then I thought about Gu and Fui and if they were under Etmanckosset's gun. I raced back down the stairs and opened the left corridor door to see all three standing there.
"HANG!" Gu shouted, "Holy hell we thought you were dead!" "Almost" I said. "But now I have to ask Etmanckosset something." I knocked his sidearm out of his hand and pinned him against the wall. "I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE! WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR!?"
"Hang relax!" Gu said. "Etmanckosset is on the level. He's been telling us about Olmanckarsat and the current dealings of the Paranid Secret Service." I looked at Gu and then back at Etmanckosset with an untrusting look. "I really am sorry Terrel." He said. "My brother has always been swayed by those with more power than himself. He is like a cloud of smoke, any wind can blow him."
"I still dont trust you. Why tell us now?" I responded. "Why didn't you tell us this sooner, you know, before he back stabbed the entire team?" A look of grief washed over his face and he looked at the floor. "Many reasons" he said. "but the most prominent is the fact that he's my kin, a part of my own brood, my brother. While he is cruel and wicked I had to believe it wouldn't come to this."
"So, you're telling me you don't have any part in this? You're not part of the PSS?" I asked.
"My brother was chosen... I was not. While we entered the marine acadamy at the same time, he was shipped off for two jazuras to an undisclosed location after we finished training. When he returned he would not tell me what had transpired. It took constant probing on my part to get him to reveal where he went and for what reason. And when I learned I wish I hadn't. Stealing ships is one thing, nurturing war is something else. I do not agree with my brother Terrel, I am not like him."
I slowly released him and we looked at each other. "I really want to trust you Etmanckosset, but you can understand why I don't." He nodded and I looked at Fui and Gu. "You're brother is dead Etmanckosset, I killed him." I looked back at him and he looked distressed.
He looked down the corridor, "I... am grieved for my brother. But I do not hold it against you." He turned away quickly and walked down the corridor towards the bridge.
"This has been one screwed up capture." Fui said. "To say the least" Gu responded. "We've made it out of some tough times Hang, but I think the magnitude of what's happened here takes the cahoonas." I looked at him in agreement and Fui asked "So what happened up there?" Just then the ship started to move and we were instantly reminded of the Titan. "Stories will have to wait" Gu said. "It's time to get the hell outta here."
