Just idly thinking about something, and wanted to check.
You can gain race notoriety by:
- Destroying race enemies in sectors owned by that race.
- Trading with stations or ships owned by the race.
- Successfully completing missions given by members of the race.
You lose race notoriety by:
- Attacking or destroying ships or installations owned by the race.
- Attacking or destroying ships or installations neutral or friendly to the race in sectors owned by that race.
- Failing missions given by members of the race.
- Getting caught with illegal goods in race sectors.
- Scanning race ships without a police license for the current sector's race.
Did I miss any?

When a Boron rams you right after you exit a Jumpgate, he gets out of his ship with the neck brace on and says: Boron say goodbye.
Next the authorities take you away, because obviously we are the cruel and mean person.
(SIGH?...)

Also I think aborting missions give you a very small rep hit, or at least the corporations do.

True, although I was grouping that with 'Failing'.
On a related topic, do any of the missions directly increase your trade or fight rank? I'm thinking not.

I *think* your rep also rises a bit when NPC ships cart away products from your stations.

You also lose reputation for being scanned with illegal goods.

Under points with 'attacking' add 'gates' and 'collateral and accidental damage'.
Probably also for building illegal goods fabs.

Do you still lose rep for gate collisions? I thought that was fixed now.

I think you only lose rep if you fail to eject it once its found.

I have had police go red for errant shots hitting a gate. Might have been before a fix in a later patch mind.

I've gotten an "If you dare to attack an installation belonging to the Argon Federation..." message for accidentally shooting a gate in 2.1.

I notice rep hit when I scan ships illegally. Wherever you are in races' sectors, look next to freight scan to see if it say (illegal) then don't use it. I think you can use it when you get police license or your rep rank reach to certain level.

You need a police license - your rep isn't relevant.

I ran some quick tests, and aborting doesn't seem to impact race or faction notoriety any more - although it may well depend on how far you've progressed with the mission(s).
Also, it looks like destroying a faction's ships costs you notoriety with the parent race, but not with the faction unless you're actually contracted to them already. Can anyone confirm that?

Awhile ago, I took Terran's stole ship mission that asked me to capture a ship and have it return to a station. So I went to a ship, fired at it, the pilot was argon when he said watch it. Until I started hitting hull, the pilot became a pirate, as I can see his face on visual comm being it. He won't bail, I kept firing, even carefully when his hull reached 5%, tried again and again, then ship got destroyed, cost me a reputation lost with Terran. They need to fix that to have pilots bail out for that kind of mission.
Other mission I like is return lost ship to station, I think I could lose reputation with race if I claim it to keep after time expires or sell it.

Apparently not - the Argon attacked and destroyed a full SFD L of mine, and my rep didn't change from 3,333.

I checked, and you lose rep if they find illegal goods, and then even more rep if you don't eject them.
