|
|
Hello All...
Can anyone who has used Microsoft Office 2007 offer me any insight on how it finally installs itself and then resides on your system?
What I mean to say is does in take take over the PC?
Does it need to auto load at system start-up?
If so can you configure it not to auto load and ONLY load when you want it to?
There is currently a great offer to upgrade at the moment but I am a bit of a purest when it comes to my PC and hate bloated software that loads and insists on eating system resources while it runs in the background.
I would be grateful for any help or opinions you can offer .
Thanks in advance.
Best
JMD

It's the same as any other version of Office, as far as I know - it loads when you run it.

I have a pdf book about Office 2007 here somewhere,if you need it I can send it to you.You can configure it like a normal program to not load at system startup,or you can eliminate the start up items from msconfig or ussing ccleaner for example.
"is does in take take over the PC?"
No ,its not a trojan.its an Office program.I have the Enterprise version with Expression Wbe and a full install needs only 2,5Gb.
P.S.You can try the new Office 2010 Technical Preview, its a lot better in my opinion.

It is MC Office Small Business 2007.
Word 07
Excel 07
Power Point 07
Outlook 07 w/ Business COntact Manager
Publisher 07
Accounting Express 2008
It is a full up-grade version I qualifiy because I own Outlook 2002.
I just know that some of these programs like to run in the backround for indexing searches and links.
Thanks

If you're used to the older versions, do bear in mind that most (maybe all) the 2007 apps have a completely different menu/toolbar interface.
I found it something of a pain to get used to (actually I just use the old menu shortcuts, where I remember them).

Yes, I have the prior version, MS Office Pro 2003 on my lap top from work. I have read the menu systems are now quite a bit different.
But my main concern still is for my home PC if it is a resource hog and if it load too many itmes in the backround.

I have office 2007 for uni students (don't want to be bothered to look for the name now).
It runs pretty well on my laptop, no slowdowns and no resource hogging (consider that the laptop has Vista on it and that I find it quick), the menu and the toolbars will take some getting used to for those who have used 2003 before but I have noticed that 2007 is more new user friendly than 2003.

I really love the layout and design in Word, its a massive improvment on 2003.
However Office 11 has entered private beta testing, expecting it to be deployed as Office 2009 or latest Office 2010, so you might want to wait for that one.

Windows does that all by itself--Office actually piggybacks on the same functionality, as far as I know.

Your right: "take over the PC" was not the best way to put it.
I meant to say something more along the lines of "was it a resource hog or did possiblly come with a large invasive footprint".
Thankfully from what I have read so far that does not seem to be the case.
The upgrade is a very reasonable $180.00 US which is great considering that I currently only have just one program from the suite, Outlook 2002.
This is basically the full suite package that looks for a current registered version to validate the final install.
My impulsive thinking tells me that the new version will be out in 6 - 12 months and then need another 6 to iron out the bugs so I can upgrade again at that time.
Best and thanks to all,
JMD

thats my biggest complaint, they've reworked the menu/toolbars to the extent that I cant find half the things I want in word. Annoys the hell out of me TBH but then I dont use it enough at home to get used to it.

That's by far and away one of my biggest complaints as well. After having used it for a couple of years, I still can't find half the stuff I used to use. Then there's the big round office 2007 logo that doesn't look like a button, despite the fact that it is,

I have been using Office 2007 for ages now and it installs as any other version and does not take over your PC.

I would have agreed with those sentiments for the first month of using it, but since I have got used to it I have found it easier to use that 2003 and with more useful features.
