Can't capture a ship with marines

Can't capture a ship with marines

I'm in the Terran Campaign at the point where I'm told to practice capturing a Vidar (I'm in Mars sector if that matters)
I lover its shields to <10 and order my Scabbard to Pirate->Board it.
However, instead of launching the marines, the scabbard starts blying aroung Vidar, crashing into in, and eventually destroying it. I've tried using any number of marines (from all to just 1), but I keep getting the same result.
I have the 2.0 patch.
