|
|
Greetings
I'm back ! I've been out Mapping the outer regions for a long time, but I'm back now !
I'm thinking about the next version of the X3 Handbook.
I'm open to suggestions for guides specifically about TC for inclusion, any recent guides to X3 that I may have missed seeing that are a must for inclusion, and suggestions as to what is needed for TC but hasnt been written yet.
Also, has anyone made some "classic posts" about TC, that can be grouped together in a Q&A style, to fill some gaps. If so, please link me to the post.
I'll also be needing some screenshots of new ships and stations.
I'm somewhat behind the 8-ball now, as I dont have a computer that will actually play TC, so will be reliant on suggestions and input as to what the Handbook needs to cover.
All help appreciated.

Firstly, much of your exemplary guide is still highly relevant, so my first suggestion would be to prune off all purely X3R stuff (campaigns etc), then find a boarding guide, edit the ship guides (the dynamics have changed somewhat) and then see what else you need.
Good luck (and thanks!!!)

I just downloaded from Rougey's site few excel spreadsheets cotaining info for X3TC maps, ship stats etc. You might want to include those. in your guides and give Rougey the credit for creating them. I think it would be good if you can tell people how to use the script editor to find things in the game more efficiently, like abandoned ships, cargo containers, etc. Also how the script editor can be used to enhance playing experiences for newbies.

I've updated the MORT guide to cover TC... of course that pretty much meant inserting "add a best buys/best selling price locator to the MORT", but still, I did it

Hmm... There are currently a lot of little bugs and quirks in TC, and many of us are holding out from playing some parts of the game (like Corporate missions) until we see what a 1.3 provides in the way of fixes.
But, no harm in getting started with the stuff that's not likely to change; maps, stats...
I remember reading the X3:R guide before I even had the game -- It helped tremendously once I started.

Oh wow!
Apricotslice, I have to say your X3R guide helped hook me on the X series. When I first started with X3 I was lost and about to give up until I read your guide. Your opening line should be 'Don't Panic'.
One thing I've been looking for is some sort of regional supply and demand chart. I started making one myself, then I realized the GOD engine seems more active in changing things around in X3TC than it was in my X3R games. Of course, it could just be because I'm paying more attention. I have been wondering if the old X2 Sector Planner by Lordsuch will work with X3TC?
Anyway, thanks in advance for your guide. You are an X Hero!

I guess, based on another topic currently in play on the forums, that a chapter on effective Mobile Mining would be helpful. It seems the scripts aren't working like they used to. (I haven't tried it myself in X3TC - yet).

Thankyou !
"Dont Panic". Now theres an idea ! Get a pic of the hitchhikersguidetothegalaxy and put that at the front
Mobile Mining was relatively easy in X2, and they nuked it in X3 because it was easy money and the devs dont like that. I never did bother trying to get it to work in X3.
There was a script written that just had ships sucking up the dirt and non-mapped roids and selling it, which was far more effective. It didnt bother trying to break up rocks, it just removed then and put dirt in the ship. No problems with collisions and mucking around. Completely remote.
But if someone can write one for TC, I'll certainly put it in.

I have to say, I found your guides extremely helpful myself, Apricot.
As for suggestions, here is what I'd offer:
A guide to side-missions, including what is required to complete them, where to find them, what to expect during them, and which ones pay enough to be worth the effort. (Subjective, I know)
I can say for my experience just having started the game, I'm getting a bit annoyed with the side-missions. One guys says, "We want you to deliver an M5." Um, okay? So I guess they have an M5 and they want me to fly it somewhere? So I dock with the station, and...no M5. My mission log just says, "Deliver M5 to this station." Maybe it means it wants me to buy one and bring it there? Well I hardly have enough money to pay for my booze, I can't buy a spaceship for these guys.
Next one says, "Take 5 passengers to this station!" Okay, that sounds simple enough. I dock with the station, and...nothing happens. I undock, and my mission log tells me to dock with the station. I dock again, I com everybody on the station, I even try buying some passengers, and nothing. So maybe I need a life-support system for my cargo hold like in X3? It makes sense, but the game certainly isn't giving me any hints about it.
*achem* Anyway, that's something I would find helpful.

I'll see how I go. I may do that myself yet in my walkthrough thread. But I do have the problem of being so X wise that I no longer fall for the obvious anymore.
It really takes someone discovering it for the first time to really know what questions to ask.
Tell you what, if you want to start an "Ask Apricot" thread on my forum in the Spacebar area, we could get a dialog going where you ask what a mission is about before talking it, and I can tell the ins and outs of it. Veteran to Newbie sort of thing over a drink in the bar.
I did a similar thread for X3, called Advise from a Spacebar.

Here is a thread with a collection of suvival techniques that may come in handy.

In addition, a boarding guide will definitely be useful as there are various approaches to getting this done.
How can people get their screenshot to you?
Here is also a site that has loads of pictures of ships. The owner may be happy to share.
