An Anonymous Argon's Crime Fighting Career

Post by Ormac »

Well I'm starting an Anonymous Argon Crime Fighter Career. Hopefully to provide some balance to the Piracy Storys. :)

This is Dead is Dead Game Like Squiddy McSquid.

My Rules (so far)

1. Dead is Dead [This is Squiddys Rule]
2. No Reloads (Losses are Lost) [Another One of Squiddys]
3. No Trading in Illegal Goods (If it's considered Illegal somewhere It's Illegal) [Sorry Split and Teladi]
4. Missiles available in Argon Space (Other Missiles must be sold)
5. Law Enforcer for All Races of the Commonwealth

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal Log

Well Today I signed up to the Argon Sector Police Force. I signed the Papers and then Went Through the Brief Sector Police Orientation Course which included a quick tour around Argon Prime so was aware of the stations in the Sector.

There was a Short Talk where the recruitment officer mentioned two things that every Sector Police Force Officer Needed was a Freight Scanner and a Police Licence. I also received a recruitment bonus of 2500 credits.

Once the Tour was Over I got in my Discoverer and went to the Equipment Dock to get that freight scanner. The Sales Technician wouldn't give me one dispite me saying I'd joined the Police Force. Seems the 2500 cr is not enough for the scanner nor do they give it out to any Argon Citizen.

Well I went to buy a Police Licence to show that technian. It seems 2500 cr isn't enough for that either. The Salesman wouldn't give me one if I had the credits despite showing him the signup papers.

Not the best day so far seems the recruitment vids didn't tell me everything.

Never believe the glossy brochure...

In terms of missions how would undercover missions and assassinations sponsored by some secret service fit into the profile?

I think he'ld be ok doing the undercover trail-the-badguy missions as that's inline with the whole Argon security forces detective thing.

Rule 4. Is an odd one. As a member of the authorities I wouldn't have thought you'ld be forbidden to use missiles. Maybe limit it to just using missiles sanctioned by Argon authoritiers. ie. those that you can buy in Argon equipment docks would be in charactrer?

Up to you tho.

Ok I've had a bit of a think about rule four about missles and I'm adjusting it.
4. No Missile Use or Trading (selling salvaged missiles is OK)
4. Missiles must be available in Argon Space (Unless missile has been salvaged)

Regarding Assassination Missions I think I'll accept them only from SY/TD/EQs and from members of the sector Race (Assume they represent the Government) and I must have the Police Licence first

Personal Log

Well I wandered off looking for some trading opportunities to increase my rep and bank balance. Made a bit from Meatsteaks but I nearly backed into a Mercury Freighter while I was undocking from the bakery. Wandered back to Aron Prime when my Rep was high enough to allow me to trade ammunition which was at a price I wished I could have traded a few more boxes but a freighter bought up the remaining 700 boxes after I spent every credit I had to grab 1000 rounds of the stuff.

I then wandered up to Heron's Nebula and made several runs of Rimes Fact before it again became unprofitable for me to trade. I was able to enhance my ship slightly from some of the profits.

Well I then started heading towards Power Circle and I was approaching the Gate when I heard a BANG. I'd noticed a few Argon Capital Ships Earlier but the sector was quite except for that bang. I was alert now checked the Map and I didn't see any suspicious activity but I did notice a container. A Firelance Missle. I approached it in two minds In case it was going to lead to trouble but no seems whatever was carrying it was the only thing in the area.

Headed over the Three Worlds and sold the missle really boosted the bank balance. I did come across an Argon Spacefly Hunter but without the authority to do anything (no Licence) and no weapons I asked the way to the nearest Shipyard and let her continue on her way. Well that's something to watch for in the future.

Personal Log

Well Having decided missiles are not bad to have in the cargo hold I decided to head back to Argon Prime via Three Worlds South Gate. Went over to the next sector and found an Ammo Factory just about at the break even mark (I'll be trading with it soon) and a Dumbfire Missile Factory.

Decided to fill the hold with Dragonflys and then headed for the nearest EQ Dock which was back in Three Worlds. Pointed my Nose towards the North Gate and informed the ship computer I wanted to Dock at the EQ Dock in Three Worlds. Crossed into Three Worlds and approaching to dock the computer registers three small asteroids to Port.

I think they're a little close but they don't appear on the star chart. Now another asteroid appears on the Starboard side of the ship It's bigger and I think it's closer than I want it to be. I try to see where the Dock is as it should be close now I just can't seem to see it. I wish this rock wasn't between me and where I need to be.

AAAAHHH I grab the flight stick and yank and press hard on the brakes [HAL/Holly/Eddie/Betty] (the computer) calmly tells me that autopilot is now OFF. I hold my breath and hope the rock has no sharp edges. A few moments later I exhale as my ship has not exposed me to open vacuum.

I gingerly get the ship to the Dock and sell the missiles. I decide to add some extra rudder control paid for with the profits of those missiles in case I get that that close to an asteroid again. I also decide trade with the Argon Prime EQ is a lot safer.

Fly Back to CBNW (It's a whole lot safer flying away!?) Trade some missiles and ammo with the AP EQ. Also able to make a single profitable run of Wasps before all remaining missiles are purchased by someone else.

Possibly considering claiming any lost missiles cause the cost to purchase is making me small profits and my known suppliers are drying up

Taking the Shine Off....

Well so far today things haven't gone so well. I haven't kill myself yet though which is the best thing that's happened so far today. Well I thought I might see if I could find any lost objects I trundled down to Elena's Fortune after taking a detour past Home of Light to Return a Lost Dolphin.

Things were a bit quite over in Elena's Fortune although It's certainly a lot more industrious. So I headed back to the dolphin which was now almost at the Cattle Ranch at the Wall. They asked me to collect it for them in 90 minutes and I still had 45 minutes on the contract so I thought Why don't I also get some energy for them and prove I'm really a helpful Argon

Told the Dolphin to go to one of the Solar Power Plants there. Plenty of Time but I thought I'd Help The Dolphin along siddled up 300-400 metres and got out.Looked at the Dolphin and took aim with my repair laser and was able to weld the hull (making it go faster) I maintained the beam for a distance of 800-900m.

I still had time or so I thought for the ship to collect some e-cells and make it back to the Cattle Ranch but A minute or so latter I get an

E-mail saying

I've decided you've taken too long and reported the ship stolen. your collection fee is forfeit.

Because he decided to report me I took a rep hit with the Argon although it net a bad as it could have been as the Argon have recently abandoned their policy of suspecting anyone to fail to meet a contract as an enemy.

It's ended up costing the Cattle Ranch Owner more than it has me (One dolphin (destroyed by Police) is worth more than 8k collection fee and it was in worse shape when I found it.

If he let me have the 90 minutes he agreed to. He'd have the dolphin shinier then when I found it and some e-cells to keep the ranch lights running (Even If he didn't pay for those I'd still be ahead on the deal)

Looks as though I'm relegated to many e-cell runs as that's the most abundent commodity.

thats tough luck with teh dolphin

i wonder if the timer accounts for speed increases gained from the repairs, in a similar fashion to tour of a lifetimes being decresed in value if you use your jumpdrive!

Well I'm starting to think there may be two rules
one for fighters and one for freighters.
Or it might be one for Argon and one for everyone else
(this is based on very limited personal observation) :? :?

The Anonymous Argon writes .....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personal Log

Private Investigations

Well I started in my Discoverer trading e-cells but that didn't last long as I didn't want to gate continually between sectors with only a dozen cells per trip. I did however get several more requests to return ships that had been abandoned most of which I failed but one that I was lucky enough to succeed at.

I may have also uncovered some pirates passing themselves off as respectable citizens. Oh and that Cattle Ranch at the Wall really doesn't like me much anymore.

Well I started trading Energy Cells from the wall with the Cattle Ranch that think I'm a thief. (Obviously the Owner has no concept of patience). I was able to make one run before an anonymous trader gave them all the e-cells they needed.

I enquired at a few local stations for any work going and a trader at the Trading Station wanted 250 SQUASH Mines and he would give 3 million If I could get them to him. Now we know trading SQUASH Mines is illegal (what he didn't know was that I was recording the conversation) so I may visit him again in the future and he may not have one after that.

The Cattle Ranch had lost another ship and asked if I would return it for them. (A buster) Again it didn't arrive back at the Ranch so I think I'm not going to be invited to their Company Barbeque.

I also tried returning an Argon Express which the police attacked for no reason I (or the owner) understood although I got 10% of the contract because of the attempt :).

I was however able to return a ship for a Boron called Bolo No. I think he may be a pirate as the ship he wanted me to return to him turned out to be a Buzzard Hauler. I thought the Boron were too Boring to try piracy.
I believed the "Boron Pirate Squiddy McSquid" was just Argon Sector Police Recruitment Propaganda. Because of Bolo No I'm not so certain.

Well I got paid for successfully completing the return and upgraded the Discovery further and bought myself a duplex scanner which has meant I know about asteroids a lot sooner then when they're in the cargo bay but Three World Asteroids could be different I haven't had trouble with others.

I was able to make a rare run (and again only a single) of Mass Driver ammunition but I'm starting to get enough credits I can snap several up and make a good return on the trip. Then bought some Quantum Tubes at average price and headed over to Red Light. wasn't able to sell them for profit at the Light Shield Fab so wandered around the sector seeing want the duplex scanner would find. I'm at the Northern end of the Sector and I spot something a long way away and start heading towards it. I'm checking the map constantly for new installations that the scanner detects and I notice a ship with some sort of trade mission.

We're within com range with each other so I talk with him and he's offing to sell a Scorpion Raider with 50% hull integrity for the limited time only offer (offer limited to 17 minutes) of 14,000 Cr. I have just less than 9,000 Cr and a 1 MW shield. Great I'll be back I tell him. zip to the Trading Station and Liquidate the Quantum Tubes and zip over to the local EQ Dock and sell the Shield. Now I've got 14,000 Cr and change.

I get within hailing distance with time to spare and tell the guy that I want the Scorpion he's Selling. "OK" he says and jumps out of the Scorpion he was sitting in.

I repair it and take it along with the Discoverer to to the AP Shipyard. I transfer Everything over from the Disco to the Scorpion and sell the Discover. Buy a 5 MW Shield for the Scorpion and have more Credits in the Account than what the Scorpion cost me

Interesting Things are probably going to be developing real soon.

@NUKLEAR-SLUG By coincedince I've Named the Scorpion 'The Right Decision'

The Anonymous Argon Writes ......

Personal Log

Boron Thumbs Up .... Argon Thumbs Down

Well I decided to call my new Scorpion Raider "The Right Decision".

I may or may not have made the right decision in keeping it, we'll see.

Well the original plan today was to wander over to Elena's Fortune and see if the duplex scanners could spot any potential lost items for me to find. I was halfway through home of light when I got a request from the Quantum Tube Fab to "find my ship". Another 90 minute very easy request which I decide to accept. (you know where this is going).

No time for Elena's Fortune Now. Zip over to Atreus's Clouds. Takes close to twenty minutes but I find the Express. I repair the hull to 70% a fairly quick patch and send it off to the the Quantum Tube Fab.

Well I'm in Boron Space Now as I can see or can't see. good thing I had that scanner installed. I drift around looking at the stations in the sector (Ok their representation on the Scanner) I locate a near empty bogas factory and a Bofu factory that is starved of Bogas. Might not be much of a profit but I'll do a few runs.

Bogas is a bulky small good and with the few extra cargo extensions installed in 'The Right Decision' to fit that 5 MW Shield I can squeeze 5 canisters in paying 480. Go to the Bofu Factory and sell the canisters at 494. Well that's handy, go get some more Bogas and the factory is producing more than I can carry as the price is below the 480 I paid for the first trip.

Do this for the rest of the day mixing in a bit of plankton and Stott Spices with the Trading Station so I can upgrade the ship to carry more Bogas. Upgrade the ship to carry 6 and later 8 canisters of bogas and I'm able to make 1,000 cr a trip in the end (and I'm able to manage more than one)

Lost and Found

While I'm at the Trading Station getting the cargo bay extensions to carry 6 canisters I notice the Stations Lasertower going off like a Neon Light. Ohh might mean a few free gifts that need to be returned to the Lost and Found Department. Well I was right there are free gifts just not the ones I was expecting.

774 energy cells, maybe the Split got too close. well I've just had to pay for some upgrades which are expensive and a hold full of e-cells with an outlay of 0 will help with the pain. I find 36 e-cells and then continue the bogas run. A further 345 e-cells are later lost of which I find 48.

Express Argon Rep .... Going Down

Well the Express didn't make it to the factory (that's a suprise) Got as far as the Argon Prime South Gate with 38 minutes to go and he decided to report it stolen. In Home of Light when the Police went and Shot it Down. It 70% hull takes a lot of damage from a Police Discoverer.

Argon Rep Drops to Federation Associate. Well with the profitable trading with the Boron I am now a Noble Peer and a lot closer to being licensed with the Boron Police Force than the Argon Sector Police.

Looks like I may be stuck with the classic methods on Reputation Enhancement with the Argon.

The Anonymous Argon Writes ....

Personal Log

Not so Anonymous, Not so Harmless (Potentially)

Continued Trading with the Boron to the point that I survived my first day as a Argon Sector Police Recruit. Made quite a few credits trading Crystals with the weapon facilities in Rolks' Fate that I may consider establishing a Crystal Fab in the sector. Although if any more of the facilities go bankrupt it may not be such an attractive idea.

Ferrying Bofu from Atreus' Clouds into Rolk's Fate is also worth the time although I want something that can hold more than 'The Right Decision'.

Bought a Sentinel Octopus and then Sold it to the Argon and they almost confirmed me as a friend (again) on the spot. A hold full of Stott Spices and a dozen Quantum Tubes later and Yes the Argon did confirm me as a friend.

Bought another dozen Quantum Tubes after selling them to the local Trading Station and headed back over to the Boron. Back in Rolks' Fate I sold the tubes to one of the local shield manufacturing facilities and noticed the Trading Station was full of Crystals Again. Distributed them amongst the remaining weapons facilities.

I didn't pay close attention to the Equipment Docks in Argon Space but the Light Weapons Factory in Rolks' Fate seemed the only place that currently stocked IRE and PAC.

I purchased 1 PAC Before heading to the Equipment Dock to buy the Freight Scanner I always needed. Moved Up to Menelaus' Frontier and located some pirates (having told the computer that Pirates are my foe helped) It probably still thinks asteroids will move out of it's way. Let the local law enforcement handle them [There were more pirates then me and I'm still unlicensed]. Collected Firelance, Silkworm and Tornado Missiles that were previously in the possession of those pirates.
(I believe they were lost)

Licensed to Kill (Pirates)and Pester Merchants*

Did some more trading so I could afford the administration fee before visiting the Trading Station to become a member of the Boron Police Force.

Stepped outside the Station for the Photograph that will go on the police license along side my name... Xavier Koen.
