Well I'm starting to think there may be two rules
one for fighters and one for freighters.
Or it might be one for Argon and one for everyone else
(this is based on very limited personal observation)

Private Investigations
Well I started in my Discoverer trading e-cells but that didn't last long as I didn't want to gate continually between sectors with only a dozen cells per trip. I did however get several more requests to return ships that had been abandoned most of which I failed but one that I was lucky enough to succeed at.
I may have also uncovered some pirates passing themselves off as respectable citizens. Oh and that Cattle Ranch at the Wall really doesn't like me much anymore.
Well I started trading Energy Cells from the wall with the Cattle Ranch that think I'm a thief. (Obviously the Owner has no concept of patience). I was able to make one run before an anonymous trader gave them all the e-cells they needed.
I enquired at a few local stations for any work going and a trader at the Trading Station wanted 250 SQUASH Mines and he would give 3 million If I could get them to him. Now we know trading SQUASH Mines is illegal (what he didn't know was that I was recording the conversation) so I may visit him again in the future and he may not have one after that.
The Cattle Ranch had lost another ship and asked if I would return it for them. (A buster) Again it didn't arrive back at the Ranch so I think I'm not going to be invited to their Company Barbeque.
I also tried returning an Argon Express which the police attacked for no reason I (or the owner) understood although I got 10% of the contract because of the attempt

.
I was however able to return a ship for a Boron called Bolo No. I think he may be a pirate as the ship he wanted me to return to him turned out to be a Buzzard Hauler. I thought the Boron were too Boring to try piracy.
I believed the "
Boron Pirate Squiddy McSquid" was just Argon Sector Police Recruitment Propaganda. Because of Bolo No I'm not so certain.
Well I got paid for successfully completing the return and upgraded the Discovery further and bought myself a duplex scanner which has meant I know about asteroids a lot sooner then when they're in the cargo bay but Three World Asteroids could be different I haven't had trouble with others.
I was able to make a rare run (and again only a single) of Mass Driver ammunition but I'm starting to get enough credits I can snap several up and make a good return on the trip. Then bought some Quantum Tubes at average price and headed over to Red Light. wasn't able to sell them for profit at the Light Shield Fab so wandered around the sector seeing want the duplex scanner would find. I'm at the Northern end of the Sector and I spot something a long way away and start heading towards it. I'm checking the map constantly for new installations that the scanner detects and I notice a ship with some sort of trade mission.
We're within com range with each other so I talk with him and he's offing to sell a Scorpion Raider with 50% hull integrity for the limited time only offer (offer limited to 17 minutes) of 14,000 Cr. I have just less than 9,000 Cr and a 1 MW shield. Great I'll be back I tell him. zip to the Trading Station and Liquidate the Quantum Tubes and zip over to the local EQ Dock and sell the Shield. Now I've got 14,000 Cr and change.
I get within hailing distance with time to spare and tell the guy that I want the Scorpion he's Selling. "OK" he says and jumps out of the Scorpion he was sitting in.
I repair it and take it along with the Discoverer to to the AP Shipyard. I transfer Everything over from the Disco to the Scorpion and sell the Discover. Buy a 5 MW Shield for the Scorpion and have more Credits in the Account than what the Scorpion cost me
