Is there any mod which will remove the range for connecting 2 stations?I searched the forum, and did not find any one which did exactly that

The best you can hope for there is the modular complexes mod. I believe the distance limits are hard coded but there is a "Vanilla" work around...
Build the complex initially as multiple complexes then join the complexes together. I have personally used that technique and it can work very well, the only issue is with the bizaar tube routing algorithms (which can be circumvented using the tubeless Complexes mod if you wish)

The distance between stations and the complex hub to be joined with, isn't hardcoded. It's set inside the Globals.txt and can be increased.

I am already using the tubeless mod,and I did know about the workaround, but that was hell when trying to make complexs of asteroids.Anyway,I will just add another zero to the number
Thanks anyways
EDIT:-where exactly is the globals.txt?
I opened x3files.xml and found its location at /types/globals.txt but there is no folder named types in the TC folder?search did not reveal it either

The file is packed into the .cat/.dat files ... last .cat/.dat I've found which contains the Globals.txt was 10. You'll need X³ Editor 2 or something similar to extract, modify and evantually repack it.

Can you guys tell me what exactly is the "drag and drop" methord?
Just draging a file onto the screen(program) changes the cursor into not available.
Also,I am using this for the first time,so I need some help.I opened the cat manager, extracted a file and edited it(file will be opened in blank mode if I open it directly). Now,I need to update the changes I made in the file by placing it back, again, right? But I am not able to do that.I read the help file and it says to either drag& drop,or add file from menu. But the add file option in the files->add is grayed out in the cat manager, and I am not able to find another add file option anywhere. |
I had posted it in the X3Editor topic and have not yet recieved a reply,so hoping I will get one here soon(or even there)

Forget the Drag and Drop method, you are making things hard for yourself.
- Ensure that XEditor 2 is running with Administrator permissions
- With XEditor 2 configured to point at the directory containing the copy of X3 you wish to modify, open the "Cat Manager"
- Under the VFS tab, open the "types" directory
- Locate the file "Globals", right-click it and select "Open With..." --> "Text Viewer"
- Locate the entry "SG_MAX_DISTANCE_BUILDCOMPLEX;20000;" towards the bottom of the file and change it to "SG_MAX_DISTANCE_BUILDCOMPLEX;40000;" for instance
- From the X3Editor 2 application menu select "File" --> "Save As..."
- If the "Switch to System Disk" button is available then click it
- Delete the .pck extension from the filename (if present)
- If the "types" folder does not already exist in your game directory then create it
- Browse to the "types" folder, and click "Save"
- Now run the game and enjoy the longer complex connection distance.

Not quite, there are two IMPORTANT points that are raised in earlier steps regarding Administrator rights and the actual name of the file after editing (needs to be "Globals.txt" - assuming extensions are not hidden but will nominally be seen as just "Globals")

Thank You.From what I understood you told me to do,you just told me to store the file in the game directory without packing it back? Then this leads me to assuming that I can extract all the cat files in the game directory and delete them and the game will just run like it always does, may be even a bit more faster since there will be no virtual memory being used, and the only reason that the game comes packed is to save some disk space in lieu of performance.I thought that since the game came packed,it would not know where to look for the files if they were not in the cat files and was desperately trying to pack the file back............
btw, which file has more precedence, the one in the game directory or the one in the cat file, and do the interfere with each other?

I would advise against complete extraction of the CAT/DAT files, performance gain is likely to be minimal anyway. The filesystem takes precedence over the CAT/DAT.
