Cluster flak vs flak array??
So then, whats the difference between the cluster flak array and the regular flak array?
Other than the fact that I cant seem to find the flak array in my encyclopedia >.<
I am attempting to fit my cerberus, and it seems they can fit cluster flaks everywhere but the back, or regular flaks everywhere. I am wondering if I should go with the clusters, or if the regular flaks have some sort of advantage...
Any help here? I am mainly looking for anti-fighter work, the main guns should kill the bigger stuff, and thus fighters are my main concern.

I've found Cluster Flak to be a pretty specialised piece of kit.
Regular Flak Artillery Arrays are far superior for everyday use (when they work right - some issues with them not hitting things)
Clusters are truly awesome to behold when fitted in groups of 8 on an M2 destroyer and watching it go to town on an enourmous mass of small fighters. Other than that, because they only shoot at max range, I mainly avoid them especially on a Cerberus that can't mount enough of them to be worth it.
Regular flaks (when they work right) are proper deadly against fighters.

Cluster Flak Array bullets spread into two sets of fragment bullets, while regular Flak Artillery Array fires single high velocity rounds. So basically it's CFA = area effect AF, FAA = high accuracy AF.
PS. I think at some point FAA was supposed to be a fragmentation weapon too, but it was removed. Noticed this since there's a FAA_FRAG bullet in TBullets, but FAA doesn't have a fragmentation effect.
PPS. Anyone have any idea what the "Flak" attribute means in practice in the TBullets file?

I'm pretty certain that's the effect.46852 wrote:PPS. Anyone have any idea what the "Flak" attribute means in practice in the TBullets file?
Flak does zero damage when hitting a target but creates a 20m radius explosion.
That damages the enemy - a frame or two later.
My complete script download page. . . . . . I AM THE LAW!
There is no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

dont be too hasty in rejecting cluster flaks. They are superb against M5s, M4s and too a lesser extent M3s. FAA has the edge against M3s, and is deadly against M6s as well. A cerberus, fitted all round with cluster flaks is a mighty ship to behold on a patrol route or sector defence. It is also very simple to equip. One complex churning out HEPTs (or CIGs or Ion Pulses) and 1Gjs is enough to pump out cerberuses.
