Post by ITFUncleDave » Sun, 31. Aug 08, 17:41

This script package allows you to target the closest unclaimed ship to the player ship upon pressing the designated key.

[ external image ] Current Version: 2.00

Install: Open the .spk (Uses Cycrow's X Plugin Manager)
.xml files available on request.

Uninstall: Run the script file "dave.targetnearestuninstall" and type in "1" when prompted.
If you wish to re-enable after uninstalling you need only to re run the uninstall script but with a value of anything EXCEPT "1"

Totally unanticipated bug, so please redownload if you downloaded version 1.00 (no need to uninstall version 1.00)

You set the hotkey yourself, go into Options, Controls, and it will be quite a ways down the "Interface" Tab. :)

Great!... been waiting for something like this...*Request*..Could you also do a hotkey for targeting crates..I have been looking for something to replace Salvage Network, I like to search for crates and floating ships as I "enter" a sector "not" via a satellite network, your hotkey idea is just what I am looking for...thanks again

Thanks a bunch..I edited BailSystem Ext. to have the astronauts bail as "friendly race" instead of "neutral race"..Now your script does not target them..Had to edit BOF script "collect astronauts" as well, so it would recognize the astronauts as being friendly race, because it was set as having them neutral.

I tried many different changes with your script to try and get it to not target the astronauts. I am not a scripter but rather a tinkerer...The best approach in my opinion to solving that problem would be to target their "action"...The astonauts are neutral but with a "command"..The ships are neutral with "no-command"..I modified a Cycrow script once "Sat Early Warning Net"..to identify "bailed" ships..He looked for a command as well in his script to help pinpoint the search...One more thing..Having the ability to "toggle" through the ships would be great..Every push of the key would target the next ship/crate etc.,if there was several in a sector...Thanks again for this new hotkey, going to test it today..Um..may be pushing my luck, but I am also wanting a "move to center of sector" hotkey..lol...Cheers :D

Hmmmm, yes, there are quite a few ways to avoid selecting astronauts, however the problem is then moving on to the "next nearest", which links nicely to your next request, I could make a seperate hotkey to "Cycle through unclaimed ships" or something similar, which, when pressed, cycles through every unclaimed ship in the sector, allowing you to view each for 5 seconds or so.

Edit: Actually....i could alter the hotkey to cycle through if you press it again (I was just sleepy earlier so i didn't realise) whichever people prefer? A seperate hotkey or a merger?

:D ..Hotkeys can be in short supply..I think a merger would be the way to go..Thanks

Edit..Actually being able to cycle would solve the problem entirely..I and others would not have to worry about the astro's then, just cycle through them to target what you want, with no edits to other scripts..Cheers

Sleeping...Is overrated.. :P

Hotkeys can be in short supply
People keep saying this or something similar to this...now...i was labouring under the idea that hotkeys were unlimited and Command Slots were not, have i been misinformed?

And yis, i'll either do that tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT: Hit on a bit of a snag so look for it sometime next week (hopefully) incidently, if anyone knows how to find the nearest ship in an array, please share. :D

Does this script help me to claim ships I have shot down?

The point is instead of looking for a empty ship you hit a key and it is targeted for you

Question why do you have to drop this script?

I want to explore and hopefully find some unclaimed ships. If I understood you correct, with this script it’s just to push a button and you have found yourself a new ship. There is another mod "salvage Claim Software" that helps me to claim the ships i found without the need to do some spacewalking. To claim it I have to be able to target it, and I think that is possible with the other mod too.

Another scenario is when enemy pilots leave their ships; I think salvage Claim Software will work very well there too.

I can’t see any use for this script, but maybe there is something I don't know about.
