I think the German interview said it wasn't viable to do that yet.

As I understood that would mean a rewrite of the graphics engine which is, um, highly non-trivial.

In another month, I'll be ready to start up the gaming season. I haven't touched a game since February.

As for a new machine, I'll wait on that until after the first of the year.

My old PC (see my sig) used to run X-3 at around 30 fps, Iv'e just brought a new PC (Intel E8500 overclocked to 3.8ghz) with a 4850 graphics card which ironically cost less than half of what my old one did when I brought it and runs X-3 at over 100 fps even in sectors with loads of asteroids.

It just shows you how technology is improving so fast and yet getting cheaper at the same time too.

Bah... I can't wait for my new machine to come in. If I had my way I'd shell all my cash for the computer of my wildest fantasies. But alas, my petty squirrel hoardings' worth of capital isn't nearly enough. Crying or Very sad

Could we have a fan Q&A session at some point closer to release?

If you take Stalker:Clear Sky (Deep Silvers other project) as an example one of their guys did a nice session released to YouTube where he selectively picked questions and answered them with examples obviously in areas he felt showed off the games potential.

I know a video interview might be asking too much but something for your news letter perhaps? Cool

(I am pleased to see some of the XTM models/ideas/people in X3:TC smart move, I think I've already seen my favourite Teladi SY in your vid or pics)

Deep Silver will definitely show something new at the Games Convention on 21.8.
For tactical reasons, I think there's hardly any news before that.

I just took delivery of my new PC, and a Geforce GTX280. I worked hard to make sure I'd have the money to get it before the release date, and I've just made it.

At last, and for the first time ever, I will be able to play an X series game from the first time I load it up with all graphical goodness on. I am somewhat chuffed.

Ok the 280 is overkill, but I wanted the gpu for some number crunching fun, as well as gaming fun.

Although with a 32bit Windows 4 GB of system RAM are only limitedly useful, it is still recommendable regarding the actual prices.
Besides that X3TC, of course, runs stable on WINXP 64bit or Vista64bit systems too.
(It can however only use up to 2 GB because the game is a 32bit EXE).

A 32 bit address space can support up to 4gb. Windows (XP) normally divides the memory into 2gb user & 2gb system. There's a boot.ini switch to change this to 3gb user & 1gb system (/3GB)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833721

All egosoft need to do to support it is set the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE linker flag...
I've got 4gb and I damn well want to get the most out of it Very Happy
Cheers, Jason.

You likely won't get much above 3.2GB addressable in 32-bit XP if you are running a modern video card.

I just hope the devs and publishers get it right this time and don't release it too early.

I remember when X3 came out.........

Way too soon!!!

Get it right ......Get it working this time.

There were a lot of angry peeps out there.

Don't fall for it again.

If it aint 100% ready don't release it.

That's probably why they're trying to keep the release date so ambiguous. I'm not too worried myself, Egosoft hasn't struck me as the kind of company that would break the same thing twice.

Yeah devices will chew up a lot, I've got 3.25gb on my machine, but I rarely see the kernel using more than 1/4 gig (and only about 60mb of that is non-paged) so there's still 3gb of physical memory left. No matter what, with the 3gb switch you still get 3gb of virtual address space for your game, it's just that some of it may get swapped out.

When do you want the game in September October this year or in a year and a half?

yes i am being sarcastic
For that to happend they need to write a new gfx engine if they are doing that they might as build a whole new game engine that uses multiple cores.
And this is an expansion so that usaly means no big alterations of the game engine.

I only care for one thing: no weird copy protections like the Starforce or similiar crap. Otherwise I'll wait a year or more for the 2.0 version.
