Chapter 7

Several weeks had passed since Josh gave everyone a ride in the spaceship and everyone was ready to take on the space ship when it showed up. The ships were finished and the Pilots and assault teams were fine-tuning their skills running simulations.
The capitol ship was only a few days from being finished and Josh was trying to decide on a name for it.
[Sarah] “Have you decided on a name for the ship?” [Josh] “I want to name the ship Excalibur.”
[Sarah] ‘That’s a good name Commander but you are the only one on this planet who knows the story behind the name.”
[Josh] “Well you give them the story and they will all know the legend behind the name.”
[Sarah] “I’ll get right on it. Josh Mensch wanted me to tell you Mary is late for work and hasn’t called or checked in and is not answering her phone.”
[Josh] “Tell him I’ll go and check on her.”
Josh took the car and went to her apartment rang the doorbell and knocked on the door with no reply.
[Josh] “Sarah scan the apartment is Mary in there?”
[Sarah] “No one is in the apartment and I have scanned the entire building and she not here. I recommend we retrace here usual path she takes every day back and forth to work and home.”
[Josh] “And you know this how?” [Sarah] “Her phone signal.”
[Josh] “And where is the phone now?” [Sarah] “Her phone is off line.”

Josh slowly started retracing Mary’s route in the car while Sarah scanned the area for any sign of her.
[Sarah] “Stop I have something down that alley. She is in the garbage dumpster hurry Josh she is about dead.”
Josh hurried to the dumpster and pulled Mary out she was badly beaten and unconscious. Josh rushed back to the house with her as she lay in the back of the car beaten and left for dead.
[Josh] “Sarah have the house garage door open so I can pull in and you transport the car to the base as soon as we are clear! Have the Doctor and his team waiting on us!”

Two minutes later Josh was racing up the driveway and into the garage. As soon as the door was closed they were in the base and the Doctor was pulling Mary out of the car and rushing her to medical.
[Doctor] “Sarah sent her scans to us Josh she’s about dead we need to hurry.”

An hour later the Doctor came out. “Josh who is this woman?”
[Josh] “She works for us as a grounds keeper for the business we have topside. How is she?”
[Doctor] “She is stable. Her head was bashed in from behind with a bat or something which knocked her out which was a good thing for her! Because after that she was assaulted by two different men over and over and then they started beating her cracking her ribs and arm and about beat her eye out of her head then left her for dead. She would have died in a normal hospital you made the right call by bringing her here. We have good DNA sample of the two that did it what do you want to do?”

Josh felt the rage building inside as a scripture keep racing through his head. “Leave room for Gods wrath.”
[Josh] “We’ll have to take care of it some how. I know what I want to do but I know better than to act in anger.”
[Doctor] “We need to do something people that do this kind of violence will keep doing it till there stopped or killed.”
[Josh] “Yes I know Doc I been locking up people like them for a long time.”
[Sarah] “They both have outstanding warrants for assault and murder charges.”
[Josh] “So if I break their legs and report them to the law they would go to jail. I like that ideal.”
[Sarah] “I’ll contact the bounty hunter looking for them and tell him there in this city if you want.”
[Josh] “Do it but I want to find them first.”
[Sarah] “Lets go then the phone was just turned on and back off and I have an location.”

Josh took one of the security officers with him as he pulled the car up to an alleyway on the outskirts of town. [Sarah] “There at the end of the alley. It looks like they been holding up in a deserted apartment building.”
[Josh] “Are they armed?” [Sarah] “No firearms but they both have knives.”
Josh looked at the crewman. “I’m going down there and beat the crap out of them two if they get by me shoot them both with the stunner do you understand?”
[Crewman] “I got your back Commander don’t worry.”

Josh got out of the car and walked to where the men were. “You know I heard there were two cowards around here that like to hurt helpless women I have a pocket full of cash for them if their up to try and take it. You two don’t know where these two gutless little girls are do you?”
Josh flashed a bundle of cash he had in his pocket.

Both of the men stepped up ready to fight. “You’re on the wrong end of town parts boy we’ll be taking that cash now!”
[Josh] “O please come and try you pathetic waste of good air!”

The fight was on as one of the men tried to stab Josh with the first blow he let fly.
Josh quickly sidestepped and broke the mans ribs with a quick blow and a painful kick to the side of his knee brought the first man down to his knees. The second made a lunge at Josh only to meet a elbow right in the face breaking his nose as the blood gushed from the hit Josh lit into the man face and upper body breaking his teeth, jaw, ribs and then a arm before the beaten man fell to the ground the other was trying to escape as Josh picked up the knife and throw it into the mans leg saying. “Don’t forget your knife!”
The man pulled the knife out and tossed it down a nearby drain as Josh walked up and broke the mans knee sending him to the ground screaming till Josh kicked the side of his head knocking him out.

[Josh] “Will they survive till the bounty hunter gets here?”
[Sarah] “Yes he is only twenty minutes away and is in route now.”

Josh got back in the car and returned to the Base cleaned up and went to check on Mary.
[Doctor] “Did you find them?” [Josh] “Yes I took care of them and the bounty hunter should have them by now so they should be gone for the rest of their lives.”
[Doctor] “What do we do with Mary when she wakes up?”
[Josh] “I’ll talk to her first then run her through just like a new recruit.”
[Doctor] “And what if she doesn’t want to join up with us?”
[Josh] “Let her thank she is in a hospital if she doesn’t want to join up we can put her to sleep and transport her to a hospital somewhere.”

Later on when Mary woke up Josh was there waiting. Josh explained she had been attacked and was in a hospital room then went on to offer her a chance to join up with them when she got better. She thanked him and accepted the offer to join up and asked what all had happened. Josh went on to explain to Mary a little more that she was inside their hospital and the doctor was going to come in and explain everything in a few minutes. Josh left the room leaving the telling of her tragedy to the Doctor.

The next day Josh went to visit Mary. “Josh I need to know did you kill the two men that attacked me?”
[Josh] “No they were alive when I left. I beat them up but they were alive. Sarah what happened to the two men?”
[Sarah] “The bounty hunter must have killed them when he arrived. He filled a report saying that he fought with them and had to shoot them to protect his life. I checked his background and there was a lot of bad blood between the three from past run ins where the bounty hunter was hurt.”
[Josh] “Mary don’t you have an earpiece and PDA?”
[Mary] “Yes forgive me I had to ask. In a way I wanted to kill them for what they done to me but in a small way I fill sorry for them because there dead and I don’t know how to fill I can’t remember anything.”
[Josh] “Forgive them for yourself and move on. The bounty hunter killed them and now he has to live with that. They may have deserved to be shot for there actions all I know is if you hold on to hate it will consume you till all you have to offer to anyone is hate.”
Mary hugged Josh and thanked him for saving her life and for standing up for her. The two sat and talked about what kind of training Josh had plained for Mary and the role she would play between the company and base. Her position was to take over the delivery runs and free Josh up for the Base and to keep the grounds up. She was to move her things into maids quarters and live in the house rent free with access to the base and the training simulators and instructors. While training a little each day or in her unused work time till her training was finished. Mary liked the ideal of getting some military training and being able to defend herself and moving into the house and out of the dump of a place she was living in.
Mary was eager to start over and make a new life for herself as she explained to Josh how she wanted to learn all she could.
[Josh] “Mary as soon as the Doctor releases you and you finish your basic training you can be trained in as many careers as you want. I would suggest that you take the advanced training courses when your done with your basic and learn all you can and then venture out into the line of training you want.”
[Mary] “What if I want to work in Medical or become a Fighter Pilot?”
[Josh] “We need both and a lot of other career positions but you have to be trained and qualified for any position. Some things take a long time to learn like the Doctor he training lasted till he was about thirty before he was ready to practice medicine so check on the requirements and time involved. You get some rest and get well first you’ll have plenty of time to decide on the career you want later.”

Josh left medical and headed for the control room. As soon as Josh entered the room. “Sir I was about to call you I think you may want to here this distress call from a freighter under attack.”
[Josh] “Turn it on.”
“We are under attack repeat we are under attack unknown fighters are fireing on our ship. Our missiles are unable to lock on fighters having to fire on fighters with small artillery gun.”

[Josh] “Where’s the ship at and do you have a fix on it.”
[Crewman] “There in the dead circle a fifty mile circle located between the two main continents. There are four fighters and the freighter on the scanner. No support ship for the fighters I don’t know where they came from Sir.”
[Josh] “Sarah get a heavy fighter ready to go. You come with me crewman you found them now lets go you can monitor the scanners.”

As Josh and the Crewman raced to the ship and jumped to a area close by the freighter.
[Josh] “The ship is about to be boarded the crewman are on deck with firearms shooting at one of the fighters in the water. The other three are picking them off one by one with each pass. I’m going to shoot one down how deep is the water here I want to recover it later and take it back to base to examine?”

[Crewman] “There is a continental rise in the circle its highest plane is 100 feet below the surface.”
[Josh] “Do a scan of the ocean floor.”
[Crewman] “I got there base Commander its on the sea floor. No more ships and the base is empty and the pilots are reptiles Sir. They just blew up one of the Reptile fighters Sir.”
[Josh] “I see lets disable the other three and transport them into the hole I want to interrogate them.”

Josh lined up on the fighters and fired a few rounds into the fighters sending them into the sea.
[Crewman] “The Pilots are in the hole Sir. What about the fighters?”
[Josh] “Sarah send a recovery ship to pick up the fighters I want to examine them.”
[Crewman] “What about the freighter Sir?” [Josh] “Let them thing they won this one. Sarah let’s go back to base.”
As the ship jumped back and docked there was a team of Guards waiting on the captured Pilots.
[Josh] “Put them in individual rooms and feed them the scans show them to be malnourished and dehydrated they’ll be no good to us dead. Sarah what about the ships do you have them?”
[Sarah] “The recovery drones are pulling them up now. They should be disarmed, secured and back at the base in under 10 minutes.”
Over the next two days Josh inspected every part of the ships each ship had a jamming device.
A team had went to the underwater base scanned and examined the base there were no technologically advanced equipment onboard. The records showed that the base had been receiving supplies every two months on a regular basis. The last supply drop they receved was six months ago and they attacked the freighter out of desperation to stay alive and obtain some much needed supplies and fuel.
The last log entry stated their plans to attack and capture the freighter and get fuel for their fighters or pilot the freighter with their ship onboard back to their homeland.

Josh felt sorry for the prisoners they were trying to get back to their homeland and people.
But there citys were in ruins and most of their people gone not dead gone and the survivors had been placed in concentration camps.
Josh decided to interrogate the captives as a group. Josh showed the captives some pictures of their homelands destroyed citys and their people in camps.
[Josh] “I hope you understand now why you stopped getting supplies. I have a few questions and I want answers. We are humans but we are not at war with your people. We are here to stop the aliens now tell me about the jamming device. And what happened to your people?”

“I am Jags the senior officer and why should we tell you anything?”
[Josh] “The Goanna have all disappeared and the few that were left are in camps! You work with me or I’ll put you all on a raft where the navy will find you and you can go to the camps with the rest of the Goanna.”
[Jags] “What if we tell you everything we know we remain here as prisoners I would rather be in the camps with my own people.”
[Josh] “I am offering your team a chance to find out who is behind this and why they are doing it. And when we have the proof we can show it to the leaders.”
[Jags] “Our people already went to your leaders and told them what was going on they did nothing but start a war with the Goanna.”
[Josh] “I had nothing to do with that! The Goanna can no longer be blamed for the attacks and abductions. You and your team sign up with us and help us get the ones behind this and I’ll help you and your people if I have to move you to another planet.”
[Jags] “Give us a moment to talk.”
Josh left the room and went into the room with his senior officers who were watching a live feed of the interrogation one of the officers spoke up.
“Commander we have been at war with these snakes for years and they have killed hundreds of thousands of our people and you just offered them a position in our defense force.”
[Josh] “And who do you think the enemy is here the Goanna there part is finished in this game they been playing with you all. The Goanna lost everything including there people which are almost certainly slaves somewhere in the universe! They have the same enemy as you and you’ll understand that before long because after we stop them the next time they show up they’ll be back with a brutal force and they won’t be any mistakes about who they are and what they want! You! So you and everyone here and on this base need to understand right now who the enemy actually is! Do you all understand that? When I’m done here I’ll have a station wide meeting with everyone about this issue and I suggest you all talk to your people before that meeting because you’re eather with me or against me do we understand each other?”

The men all jumped up. “Yes Sir!” The one officer replied. “I’m sorry Sir I spoke out irresponsibly.”
[Josh] “Just talk to your people I don’t want any problems with them or the Goanna. If the Goanna don’t want to join up with us I want to find some that will. We need the Goanna on our side and you and your teams need to understand that.”
“We understand Sir they will not be a problem.” They left the room to talk to their departments and Josh went to his office to cool down a little before he returned to talk with Jags and his people again.

An hour later Josh went back into the room the Goanna were in. “I want to offer your team a position in our defence force as equal members. I know they may be some prejudice between the races but you will be working for me not the Goanna. I want you team to join up with us we need the Goanna on our side if not you and your team I’ll look for other Goanna that will. When we inter space one of our goals is to look for and welcome any and all help that we can find from any race that will work with us and our goals to stop the aliens form abducting, breeding and experimenting on people and rescue everyone that we can.”
[Jags] “And what about the Goanna will you help liberate them?”
[Josh] “Yes absolutely the Goanna as well as any other races.”
[Jags] “Show us our land so we can see for our selves that what you say and showed us is the truth if you do this for us and all is as you say we will join you.”

That Josh has a way with words... Those two deserved everything they got... eventually!
