A New Home
Chapter 3

Josh had got a early start as he got a cup of coffee and a sweet roll and headed out to meet the realtor.
The realtor was going to meet Josh at the house first to show him the property.

This was the first time Josh had left Dan’s house since he arrived to the town and Josh was looking at everything as he flew to the house. He could fill the heat for the sun on his face and arms as he stepped out of the glider as a morning breeze slowly sweep across the parking lot stirring up some dust.
Josh looked around for the realtor his glider was all ready there when he landed and parked.
Josh seen a man coming up from the shop in a small electric car waiving his hand at Josh.

[Realtor] “I take it you’re Mr. Galen?” [Josh] “Yes I am.”
[Realtor] “Good we can get started this cart comes with the estate I charged it up yesterday so I could use it to show you around the property please have a seat and we’ll get started.”
Josh got in and put the seatbelt on as the Realtor headed of down through the grass till they reached a fence that he followed showing Josh how large the property was that stretched back behind the house.

As they were on there way back to the house the Realtor asked? “What do you want to see next?”
[Josh] “Let’s start with the garage and then the parts store and the house last.”
Josh chose the house last because the Realtor was pushing the house and land as the big selling idem and the garage and store as extras. The Realtor pulled up to the garage and started opening the doors up as Josh looked all the way through the garage and started taking a few pictures and said. “This could work I’m ready to look at the parts store now.”
Josh watched as the Realtor closed the garage up as he sat in the car looking at the pictures on his PDA.
The store was a little easier for the Realtor as he unlocked the door and turned on the lights and showed Josh the offices, stockrooms, counter area and small shop area.
Josh again took his time looking at every little detail of the store and taking pictures of everything.

[Josh] “Ok show me the house I’ve got what I need.”
They got back in the car as the Realtor took Josh to the house saying as they got out. “This is one of the finest homes I have ever had the pleasure of offering to the public.” Josh took a picture of the house as they started up the walkway to the house then placed the camera in his pocket like he was finished.
The Realtor gave Josh a strange look as he opened the door and started the main show as he took Josh to each part of the rooms showing off the elegant furnishings that were still in the house. Josh was wearing a pair of glasses that had a video camera made into them and was recording everything Josh looked at on his PDA for Mensch to look over when he got back to Dan’s.

The tour was over as they walked outside Josh replied. “What’s your bottom price for the place right now as is? And if you get the numbers right we can close the deal today.”
The Realtor replied with a smile. “This is a real bargain I have several other clients interested at.” As he rolled of a price twice what he paid for the place two years before.

[Josh] “Did you bring me here to play around I know what you paid for the place when you bought it.
Now I don’t mind a man trying to make a living but retiring off this deal is not going to happen. I’ll give you this much above your investment to cover your expenses and upkeep take it or leave it!”
The Realtor gave a mad look as he looked at the number on the paper. Then he took out his phone and called someone walled around his glider for a while talking on the phone turned and said. “I’ll take it if you pay all the fees for the paperwork and filling.”

Josh reached out and shook the mans hand saying. “ You got a deal lets go to the bank and I’ll transfer the funds over to you and file the paperwork.”

[Realtor] “We can take the car the bank is just two streets over and we can take care of the paperwork there and file the deed with the government and the place will be yours. The whole process will take about an hour and that’s it. I hope you enjoy the place you got a real deal and if you latter on want to sell a part or all of the property please call me I’d be glade to help you.”

Josh smiled a little as the man was talking thanking how much he sounded like a Teladi as he offered his services on any future deals.
As they went into the small bank the Manager was waiting at the door with a smile as he took them into his office and laid out the paper work and gave Josh an address to send the money too.
Josh pulled out his PDA and typed the account number and amount in and transferred the cash saying. “It should be here any minute. When we’re done here I want to open a business account with your bank we are planning on reopening the garage and parts store. I’ll need two privet accounts and separate accounts for the garage and parts store with a general savings fund.”

A woman walked in and told the Manager the funds transfer was complete and asked if she could get anyone some refreshments. The Manager told her about the new account and to get the paper work ready and bring some snacks and drinks for there quest.
A few minutes later she returned with a plate full of snacks and several different drinks and cups and smiled as she gave Josh a slip of paper saying. “Just transfer the amount of cash you want to work with into this sayings account and we can transfer it into the other accounts whenever you want.”

Josh pulled out his PDA again and transferred some cash into the account to get things started looked at his watch and asked. “Is there a good restaurant in town?”
[Manager] “We have a very good restaurant one street over.”
[Realtor] “I’ll show it to you on the way back Mr. Galen.”
[Manager] “The paper work is about finished all you need to do is sign this and this and we’re done.”

Josh signed the papers as the Bank Manager handed him the deed and the Realtor gave him a zip bag with the keys saying. “It’s all yours now. I’ll be waiting in the car to take you back when you’re ready to leave.”
[Manager] “Here are the cards for your account and the other account is for?”
[Josh] “Mensch Galen I’ll get back to you with the name we decide on for the garage and store.”
[Manager] “Mensch will have to come in and sign a ID form for his account.”
[Josh] “I’ll do it and thank you am I all finished and ready to go?” [Manager] “Yes and think you.”

Josh left the Bank and went to the car the Realtor took him down the road the restaurant was on showing Josh some of the other shops and stores before returning Josh to his new home.
The Realtor wished Josh well smiled as he got in his glider and left.

Josh stood looking at the house as he called Mensch and Dan to tell them to come over and look at there new home. It occurred to Josh as he headed to the door this was the first house he had ever bought everything he owned before had been in space.
Josh called Dan and asked him to pick them up some carry out on his way over with Mensch so they could eat and then look around the place.
Josh was looking over the scans of the house when he noticed a case in the floor of the basement closet.
“Sarah what is this in the floor?” [Sarah] “It’s a safe.” [Josh] “Can it be opened?”
[Sarah] “Yes I have the combination.” [Josh] “Put it on the PDA.”
Josh headed down to the basement and opened the closet and pulled the carpet back exposing a wood floor.
“Sarah can you tell how to get to the safe?”
[Sarah] “Take something and pull the center peace of molding on the back wall out there is a latch that will release the board from the floor exposing the safe.”
Josh looked around for something to pull the molding out with he needed something with a hook. Then it hit him a coat hanger would work he looked around till he found a wire coat hanger in the upstairs closet and went back and pulled the molding out. The molding was attached to a board that fit tightly in the slot.
There the handle was as Josh turned it the clink of a release sounded on both sides of the closet floor.
Josh moved back out of the closet and the floor rose up a little. Josh pushed the board up against the back wall of the closet and there it was a safe set down in the concert. Jose pulled the PDA out got the numbers and opened the safe. There was a pistol a small cash box the original deed to the house and property and some personal papers that belonged to the dead couple.
Josh opened the cash box up to find close to 200’000 in cash and some jewelry in bags.
Josh put some of the cash in his pocket and put everything back like it was and sealed it back up and went upstairs to wait on his friends.
A few minutes later Dan was knocking on the door. “Someone order takeout.”
[Josh] “Come on in Dan.” [Dan] “Heres the food we want to look around first.”
[Josh] “Alright I’ll but the food on the counter in the kitchen. Mensch there are two big bedrooms with there own bathroom on the top floor at each end of the hall you pick one and I’ll take the other.”
[Mensch] “How many rooms are they?”
[Josh] “More than we need. There are four smaller rooms with two more bathrooms upstairs. Two more rooms downstairs and a bathroom a den, living room and a study. There is a maids apartment through the kitchen. And a full basement with some smaller rooms mostly for storage I think and a large open area in the center of the basement. There is a small set of stairs on the upper level that leads up to the attic. Come on and I’ll give you two a quick tour.”

After Josh had showed them the house and was in the kitchen eating Dan replied. “It will take you two a few days to get the house ready to live in its going to take a while to get the furniture.”
[Josh] “I’m going to stay here tonight to watch the place the Realtor canceled the security service. I don’t think anything going to happen but you never know.”
[Mensch] “I’m going to stay here with Josh in my room. I like the sound of that “my room” it may not be very comfortable or the smartest thing to do but I’m going to stay.”

[Dan] “I have two cots and blankets you two can use.”
[Josh] “Thanks Dan but I got it covered we’ll be fine. I need the drones to do some work around here. The drones have finished the glider and have loaded up all they can into it and they need my glider for the rest of the load. I’ll send Mensch back in my glider for the rest. One of the drones is on its way here in his glider now so I need to stay here and wait on it.”
[Dan] “This may sound dumb but I fell like I just been dumped.”
They all laughed at the remark as Josh stated. “Dan you can stay to if you want we have plenty of room.”
[Dan] “Thanks but I need to get home and straiten up. I’ll see you there Mensch. Josh I’ll talk to you tomorrow I‘ll stop in on my way home.”
Dan and Mensch headed out for Dan’s house. A few minutes later the glider landed and pulled into the garage. [Josh] “Sarah start setting back up in the basement and use the portable unit in my backpack to make Mensch and me a makeshift bed in our rooms.”
[Sarah] “Understood when do you want to start on the command center under the house?”
[Josh] “After you set back up build four larger mobile spider constructers and make a secret door in basement leading down to control room and place the constructer unit in it. Then start on the main command center as planned underneath the house. Then start on the spacecraft and satellites. How long till the first room is completed?”
[Sarah] “If I can use the portable unit in your backpack to help build the spider units after the beds about 6 hours for the room and 10 hours for everything in the first room. I suggest you let me make 8 larger spider units it would cut the time down from 10 to 6 hours.”
[Josh] “Good make eight then and if you need to make more for the main complex do it. Can the main complex be made similar to the same meteral as the rune except it uses the warmth from below the ground to work.”
[Sarah] “We would need to run some test on different configurations to find the right one but a laboratory section needs to be built with the control room and will take 6 more hours. I suggest you let me make a total of 12 large and 48 small spider constructers to save time.”
[Josh] “Do it we can use them. Add a living quarters section big enough for three families after the lab is finished. I want the whole structure to function as a bomb shelter they are at war and we may need it.”
Josh seen Mensch land and went to meet him in the garage. As Mensch opened the door Josh said. “Mensch I have something I want to show you in the basement.”
Josh took Mensch down to where the safe was and showed him how to open it Mensch replied. “No wonder no one found the safe what do we do with the valuables and cash?”
[Josh] “We do what we want with it. They are dead with no relatives. The Realtor didn’t find it and we just bought everything this is just a bonus. Thing of it like you just bought a box of old durty metal pans and plates. And a week later at home you clean them up and find out they are made of silver are they any less yours?”
[Mensch] “I see what you’re getting at I just never had anything happen to me like this.”
[Josh] “I got started out helping save a woman from a slave runner. On his ship was a lot of loot it became mine after the pilot surrendered the ship to me and I delivered him over to Naval Security.
We are going to start up the business again and have the cash to do it with now instead of later. Which meens jobs for people. Take half of it to the bank tomorrow and put it in the company account and get your bank cards.”
[Mensch] “What about the other half?”
[Josh] “We’ll get some furnishings we need for the house like bedroom, living room and kitchen furniture.”
[Mensch] “That sounds good to me. I’ll go to the bank in the morning do you want to meet me at a furniture store when I‘m done?”
[Josh] “We only have one car so you’ll have to come and pick me up.”
[Mensch] “We have a car where is it?” [Josh] “It’s parked in the driveway on the side of the house.”
[Mensch] “I allways wanted a car to ride around in.”
[Josh] “Well now you got one and tomorrow we need to get a truck for Dan for the business. We can make all the garages hand tools and equipment and we can restock the parts store but we need the truck to transport the suppplies.”
[Mensch] “Let go to bed we got a lot to get done tomorrow are our beds ready?”
Sarah told Josh they were ready so he relayed to Mensch they were as the two went up the stairs to get some rest in there new home.
As Josh laid on the makeshift bed looking at the stars through the window he thought how he had planed on buying a home on a planet someday for himself and Sherry to get away from the emptyness of space.
Josh wondered if Ann and Elk had gotten married and how things were going back in his time and space if he could learn how to use the armband maybe it would take him back and no one would ever know what happened. Josh closed his eyes and drifted of to sleep thinking about home and getting back.
