Career Day
Chapter 2

Josh had got the part he had been waiting on and the unit was working after the amazement of seeing a part made from nothing wore off Mensch and Dan a little they joined Josh in the living room area downstairs.

[Mensch] “It’s just mind-blowing to set and watch that thing make something.”
[Josh] “Yes it is I guess I take for granted now but the first one I made I set and watched it like you two.”
[Dan] “Can it really make anything.”
[Josh] “It can make anything that’s not living only GOD can make and give life. But it can replicate meat, fruit, water and any other food or any medicine or material if you have something like a fruit you want to replicate what I did was pick several peaces I decided to be the best examples of and scanned each one completely and stored them for reproduction. It can only reproduce what I have stored into the data bank. That’s what got me sent here I was scanning the materials inside the structure and discovered the armband was causing a time disturbance. The drone was holding some fruit on a tray above the armband to see how it would react. I thought it was a good ideal till a peace slid off and hit the armbands lid and closed it zapping me back in time to here and now. Which was good for you Mensch cause now you’re alive and well and about to start a new life. Have you thought about what you what to do for a living?”

[Dan] “What about the ancients they made life didn’t they?”
[Josh] “No they took life and distorted it by mixing animal and human DNA on live subjects till they got something they wanted like the Reptile race you been at war with.
In my time period most of the races are at peace with each other. They are still some bad people that cause problems and they have enemies to fight just like your people.”

[Mensch] “Tell us about our people and planet in your time?”
Josh changed the subject not wanting to tell they didn’t survive and the planet was deserted.
[Josh] “No more talk about the future for now we need to decide what kind of business or work to get into after we leave here.”
[Dan] “You mean you’re both going to leave someday?”
They all laughed at the remark as Mensch replied. “Yes someday.”
[Josh] “What kind of career do you want to get into?”
[Mensch] “We moved a lot so I had several jobs. I don’t know right off let me thank about it a while.”
Mensch and his brother had worked and saved what they could moving from town to town along the coast trying to escape the war. They moved back inland to a more secure area near their old hometown.
The war was not over and done with but the attacks on their home land had stopped and peace talks were begging both sides had suffered badly pictures were coming in of the Reptiles homeland the Humans had about destroyed everything standing and were seeking a surrender from the Reptiles and from the look of things would get it if they had someone left alive in charge to sign it.

[Dan] “The military really did a number on the Reptiles homeland. I bet now they wish they hadn’t started the war or at least what’s left of them.”
Josh and Dan sat and looked at the devastation done to the Reptile homeland as the live video played on the news as it showed all their cities had been leveled. The Military leaders had destroying their last standing cities and were calling it a final defeating blow to their enemies.

Josh found it hard to focus on helping Mensch find a new career as his attention keep returning to the live video.
[Josh] “Mensch answer these questions and it will help you discover your best options for a career.” As Josh showed Mensch a vocation aptitude test he pulled up on his PDA.
Josh knew that he didn’t want to get involved in the fighting all he wanted to do was try to get back to his own time. Josh went to his small room to try and get some rest and get a fresh start tomorrow on the career searching.
After a week of talks and Mensch picking career after career and changing his mind Josh decided they would start selling used gliders Sarah had already copied the data on every part made for them and Mensch always wanted to work on gliders. The plan was to buy the ones in need of repair or damaged a little repair them and sell them. Sarah was to keep on trading in the money market.

Josh wanted to buy a place on the outskirts of the town that was on the market for a good price that suited their needs. Dan sold new gliders and needed a place to sell the older and damaged ones so it helped him.

The lot Josh wanted had a four bay garage in the back with lifts. The building in front had been used to sell parts out of. A house sat away and back from the garage and building with a two bay garage of its own and a full basement.
Dan told that the original owner of the place had raced gliders and used the garage and glider parts store to fund his racing. He and his wife had been killed in a costal attack early on in the war. The state sold his place at an public auction to a realtor who has been trying to sell it every since.
Josh set a request to the realtor and asking for a on sight tour of the property in two weeks.
Within an hour the realtor had responded and the date was set.

To raise some extra cash Mensch put off his surgery for two more days so the constructor could create a number of expensive items to sell so they would have enough cash to do what they wanted and some extra.

When the time came the drones sterilized the room as Josh stayed with Mensch in a environmental suit.
[Mensch] “What are they doing Josh tell me each step till I’m out.”
[Josh] “The Drones are sterilizing the room. Now they are turning on a containment field to keep the room germ-free and you from getting infections. The shot you’re getting will knock you out so just close your eyes and rest I’ll be here the entire time when you wake up you’ll be a new man.”
Josh sat in the room and watched as the Drones worked on Mensch. After the surgical procedure was finished Dan wanted to see his friend.
“Man you can’t tell who he was and his face has no scaring when I get a little older can they work on me?”
Josh laughed a little. “Maybe someday he looks fine but he will be tender around his face for a few days so take it easy on him till he heals up completely on the inside.”
[Dan] “Why did you make him so good looking for now I’ll have to take him with me to attract women in for me.”
They were laughing as Mensch asked. “What are you two laughing at? Let me see a mirror.”
Josh handed Mensch a mirror as he looked at his new face and smiled a little till the pain hit him.
The Drone quickly gave Mensch a shot that put him back out.
[Josh] He’ll be out till tomorrow morning his voice has been altered a little also along with his eyes and finger prints. His DNA is the same but we hacked all the record bases and changed them to his new ID.
The samples of his dead brothers DNA from the structure have somehow been ruined by a lab accident so he’ll be able to do whatever he wants witout being afraid of getting caught. Mensch in a since is a new Man.”
Josh had bought a used glider in need of repairs from Dan and parked in the garage upstairs and Josh wanted it refitted to his design so he sent one of the drones to start work on it while they slept. Josh woke early to go check on Mensch and send the drone to work on the glider.
Mensch slept until about lunch time as Josh and Dan were waiting on him to wake up when he said. “I’m hungry and sore like someones been punching me in the face. Let me look again at my new face.”

Josh handed Mensch a mirror and a drink saying. “Here drink these for a few days till the pain is eased up and you can eat normal food. I bought a glider from Dan and the drones are working on it right now in the garage upstairs. Dan has some pictures of a few more you can pick from and the drones can fix it next so it will be ready wen you’re healed up and ready to get out.
I’m have a meeting with the realtor in two more days so the ship will be finished and yours should be ready to fly the day after the meeting if you pick it out today.”
Mensch reached for the pictures saying. “Let me look. [As he slowly looked at each picture while drinking the liquid until he spoke sounding like his mouth was full of cotton.] I’ll take this one Dan.”
[Josh] “Take it easy Mensch and give yourself time to heal I’ll stay here with you just don’t over do it and hurt yourself. Here’s the remote to the TV and another drink tomorrow you can get up and walk around.”
[Dan] “I’ll bring the other glider home tonight so you can look it over tomorrow Mensch I’m headed into work I’ll see you two later. Mensch you honestly look all right they did a good job on you.”
Mensch smilled as his friend left and he started fliping through the channels on the TV.

Josh was plaining on building large underground complex hidden deep beneath the house with a control center and safe house and a huge bay with a large constructer for building a space ship. Josh needed to get a few small satellites in space to relay information back so he could see who and what was out there and where and to scan the planet with delivery packages as there flown all-around the planet relaying information back to his secret hideaway beneath the house.
Josh just wanted to get back to his own time staying where he is was not an option. He knew that a large asteroid would destroy all life on the planet in there future but when was the question not if. The planet was destine to lay in runes and cold a thousand years till the plant life slowly returned to the planet driving back the ice and returning it to its previous state of a life supporting planet.

Josh caught Dan as he was about to leave. “Hay Dan do you have a large delivery airship for sell?”
[Dan] “I have just a few I’ll send you some pictures and prices when I get to work.”
[Josh] “Thanks Dan we‘ll be needing one for our business.”
Josh went back downstairs and in his room for privacy. “Sarah I want you to make the small portable constructor unit we talked about when the glider is finished.”
[Sarah] “I’ll make it while the drones are working on the glider. I’ll notify you when its finished so you can test it and put it in your backpack.”
A few hours later Sarah informed Josh the unit was ready for testing.
The controlling unit was small and compact as Josh laid it on the floor. Four small mobile units that looked like square spiders raised up of the unit and moved about building a part for the glider.
The ease and speed the part was made in was impressive and when they finished they reconnected back into the unit.
[Sarah] “The trial testing was a success and the unit is ready for you to store in your backpack.”
Josh picked the unit up and went into his room and placed it in a pocket inside his backpack and smiled as he thought with this unit he could make whatever he needed without taking weeks to build a makeshift unit.
Josh had never planed on ending up in the past and if another accident happened leaving him stranded he would have the unit to work with. He could have ended up in a time or own a planet with little or no technology and knowing how would meen nothing without the means to do with. This time Josh was able to rebound and with the new unit that would never be a problem again.

Mensch asked Josh if he could look at Josh’s glider. Mensch was wanting to get up and move around his face was a little sore but the rest of his body was fine so Josh took him up to the garage and showed him the glider. The drones had just finished and were returning to the basement.
Josh and Mensch opened the doors and sat down inside the glider looking at every part, button and guage like two kids with a new toy.
They went back downstairs and started watching a movie to pass the time until Dan came home with the glider for Mensch and they could eat.
Dinner had became a time of fellowship for the three as they sat around the table talking and planning out the next day and just having fun.
Today had went well for Josh until he started missing Sherry. It started as he sat watching the movie with Mensch about a man trying to get back to his loved one and now it came back on him as he was at the dinner table.
[Dan] “You seem a little distracted Josh are you allright.”
[Josh] “I’m fine I just been thinking about home.”
[Mensch] “I think he meens his woman. Nothing can mess up a man like a woman.”
[Josh] “Well yes I miss her you know my plan is to get back to my own time.”
[Dan] “And what if you have to stay here for a while time has a way of changing things especially fillings.
You may find someone here and fall in love and want to stay making this your time.”
[Josh] “I could but first I’m going to try for a few years first before I give up and start over.”
[Mensch] “From what I understand about time travel anything you do now could change the future.
She may not even be there everything could be different.”
[Josh] “That armband is the key to me gitting home to my time. I’m want to find the one who made it or I’ll figure out how it works on my own. That thing has a record of the time and place it pulled me from I just need to get it. It brought me here to your time and space it’s the link to my and your time. I can’t access it and if you mess with it you could remove the information by mistake and strand me here forever or like Mensch said open up a different timeline. I have a job to do in my time I need to get back.”
[Dan] “What if you got a job to do here Josh I don’t think you came here by mistake you have the ability to change our world if you want. You already saved Mensch he’s alive so you have already changed the future I think you’re here for a reason Josh I don’t know what it is but you’re here and it’s huge I just know It.”
[Mensch] “I fell the same way Josh just look at me I have a new face and a new start on life because of you. Plus you saved my life and helped me finish my mission and saved the future of our planet.”

Josh felt bad about the remark Mensch made about saving the future of the planet knowing that the planet was predestined for destitution along with everyone on it. Josh thought maybe there was something he could do to save some of them.

[Josh] “Dan lets look at the glider you brought home for Mensch I’ll let you know about the truck tomorrow after I talk to the Realtor. Take a good look Mensch this time tomorrow it should be repaired.”
Mensch was inspecting the glider and pointing out every little flaw to one of the drones and the changes he wanted done while the other was busy working on the repairs.
[Dan] “Come on Mensch let them get to work or it will never get finished.”
Mensch was the last one to leave the garage as Josh looked back he noticed a smile struggle its way onto Mensch’s face as he looked back at the glider one more time before closing the door.

[Dan] “Josh who is going to fly the glider for you tomorrow ?”
[Josh] “I am.” [Dan] “And when did you learn how to fly a glider?”
[Josh] “I didn’t but the autopilot can.”
[Dan] “What else can it do?”
[Josh] “Do you really want to know?”
[Dan] “No I guess it’s better I don’t know. One thing I have learned if I don’t know I can’t tell. Just tell me is it fast?”
[Josh] “It’s fast Dan.”
[Mensch] “What about my glider can you make it faster?”
[Josh] “All ready in the works. And I put a safeguard in your ship so if you lose power in one of you lifts it will let you land safely.”
[Dan] “Can you but one in my glider?”
[Josh] “Yes but let’s keep this one to our selves. It uses a anti-gravity lift to stabilize the ship. There hid in the frame of the ship out of sight and are disguised as rubber mounts. I going to call it a day and turn in I have an early appointment with the realtor.”
[Dan] “I didn’t realize how late it was I need to go to bed to.”
Mensch nodded in agreement as he went to his room and went to bed.
