And even though the PHR can take AIREs, BIREs, and APACs, it wouldn't be able to keep up a sustained burst, even long enough to cripple a TS/TP. A Starburst with IREs would fly faster than the Alpha version and only a bit slower than the Beta. Even if they could be fired for more than few seconds, weapons would be wasted on a ship built for exploring (check it hasn't smacked into an asteroid before each save, though).

Jag Raider is the fastest armed M5 and it has triplex scanner to boot. If you want M5 for fighting then Jag Vanguard is the most power-ready and isn't much slower than the raider variant.

Roguey's site may have slipped up, but all the Jags seem to have the same weapons energy/recharge rates...

Jaguar Vanguard: 1440 weapon energy, the others are 1200.
With APACs, wasp missiles it is a mean little beast.
Also, IMHO the best looking jaguar variant.

Still prefer Disco Raider myself. 439 m/s is plenty fast enough for 99% of situations you'll find yourself in, and the other 1% can be handled because it's the only M5 Raider with the cargo class to fit a jumpdrive! That alone makes up for any amount of extra speed, IMHO.

Depends on what you use it for. As a universe exploration ship Disco R is the best. But if you're flying with a carrier ship and want to check BBS or have some adrenaline intensive fight then Jag R or Jag V takes the cake.

The only downside is reserving space for at least ten ecells, to jump to another system, although five would be enough to get to a gate in the same system. OK for getting out a scrape, if you survive the countdown, but you'd have to travel light to jump across more than a handful of systems, I imagine.

WIth 3 shields and 2 IRE's Disco R can take 40 ecells. What else would you want to carry in it?

I'm a clutterbug, what can I say?

It wasn't so much the Discover as the Buster I started with, though. I like to have a few missiles to end a sticky fight quickly, and the Buster just didn't seem to have much room for energy. I may not have gotten around to increasing the cargo capacity, perhaps...

If you're exploring the universe you'll unlikely be looking for a fight and anything that can keep up with Disco R can be easily dealt with using 2 BIRE's.

I like the Jag Raider because you can quickly find, and bring to term, TL assassination missions with a single bIRE. I take out the Mark's M5 before he docks with the TL - then scarper to an inbound M3+ to finish off the escorts. Of course this only applies when the Mark appears in the sector you happen to be in.

I like Disco Raiders and Haulers - because they can carry JD and Adv Sat.

Favourite armed M5 is Raijin Raider.
Guns are only 4 A/B-IREs, but has a decent top speed (477m/s) & strong shields (50MJ)
Also takes M class cargo, so can be equipped with Jumpdrive, Triplex Scanners, etc.
