[BBS Plugin] BBS Race Reparations v1.01 *Minor bugfix* 14-Dec-07

BBS Race Reparations by eladan

v1.01 - Download spk here Xai-corp (thanks moggy)

This plugin adds a news item to allow players to fix relations with any hostile ships/stations of the sector owner's race. From the readme:
Readme wrote:BBS Race Reparations v1.01 by eladan
------------------------------------

This package will create a news item which will trigger if you have a high enough reputation (6th +ve rank, eg Argon Trusted Ally) with a race, and there are any ships or stations of that race which are hostile to you.

The news item is from the <race> Reparation Fund, offering to fix relations with those stations and ships, for a fee. The fees are as follows

Shipyard, Equipment Dock, Trading Station 2,000,000 credits
Any other station 1,000,000 credits
Ship of class M1, M2, TL 500,000 credits
Any other ship/lasertower 50,000 credits

Upon acceptance of the news item, the necessary funds will be deducted from your account, and all hostile ships/stations of that race will become neutral.

Changelog
---------

v1.01 - Removed some left over debug code
- Hopefully stopped article appearing if there are no hostile ships/stations(!)

v1.00 - Initial release
The costs were chosen rather arbitrarily, except that I wanted them to be considerably higher than you would pay for station hacking at pirate bases, both because of the relative ease of finding this compared to the hacking one, and that this is guaranteed to work. If you have any thoughts on this, please let me know.

I got the idea after recently reading a thread on station hacking on XU. This is my first BBS script attempt - please be gentle. :)

Minor bugfix release - removed some debug code left in by mistake, and I've now hopefully stopped the news article appearing if there wasn't anything to fix.

A bit of feedback on using this script:

I had a game running (w/o the script) for going on 14+ days or so, am on day 7.5 in X3 time. After a firefight with some pirates a Teladi Trading Station turned red, and the Race Response Fleet ships jump in every time I poke my head into that sector as a result.

I downloaded and installed this script, and loaded a savegame, but it never appears in the sector with the hostile station no matter what other station I dock at. I've even waited 10+ minutes in that sector just to ensure it has ample time to initialize.

Any tips on how to get it working? I have a rather large installed script list, but most (if not all) of that is working perfectly.

Do you have a high enough rep with the teladi? As per the readme, you need to be at least 6th positive rank (1000 notoriety) which is majority shareholder for the teladi, I think.

If that's ok, then it's simply a matter of waiting - like all BBS messages, it's random whether it will appear or not.

The other thing to note - you don't need to be in the same sector as the red stations or ships - it will be offered in any of that races sectors.

Yep, my Teladi rep was Company Owner, so more than high enough.

As a sidenote and update - I finally saw the message from the script about 90 minutes later, after I had already used LV's cheats to turn the station neutral. So it was probably a matter of just letting it sit long enough to start up. I'll leave it installed and use it as designed, and report back if I have any other feedback.

Cheers.

You shouldn't have received the message after so long for just that station. Unless I've made an error on the timeout, you must have other hostile stations/ships in teladi space.

Thanks - feedback is always appreciated. :)

Is this script compatible with patch 2.5?

I am at the correct level but I'm not getting any BBS message. It's been 1/2 an hour now.

I'll keep trying for a while.

Yep, it should work fine for 2.5. (Does for me.)

The message isn't necessarily going to appear immediately after you've installed the script. It doesn't have a high priority, so there can be a bit of a wait.

I'll take another look at it though, see if it needs tweaking.

tried a few times over an hour, then tried reloading the auto-save about 15 times, still no joy.

In the end I shot the laser tower so the station was then red, went to pirate base and re-loaded the auto-save until the hack BBS message came up, saved and then accepted the hack a couple of times until it was successfull. That worked fine so I'm happy now.

I'll leave your script installed for any future incidents and update you if used.

Hi folks,

My main ship (Hyperion loaded out with PSGs) is absolutely awesome at sweeping away enemies but, unfortunately, also at creating them. With this in mind I was overjoyed on finding this script as it looks like a way to restore relations with several very annoyed factory owners.

However, I cannot get the files in working order. I have downloaded 'BBSracerep-1.01.spk' & 'Cycrows 'SPKUtil-1.00' tarball but cannot get SPKUtil to build. Debian Squeeze does not seem to have the required headers in the expected places. I have shuffled symlinks to try and resolve this and totally broke my build system. Thus, after repairing the system, I am loathe to try further.

So, is anyone able to either (a) suggest another way of opening the spk, (b) supply spktools ready built for Debian or (c) supply the files without the spk wrapper so that I can manually copy them into place.

Thanks, Kimdino

I mentioned this on the Linux X3R thread but you can use wine (or in my case Crossover) to install the windows programs. This allow you to install spks or just view them and extract the files if you'd rather do that. In Crossover its easy using bottles, in wine itself I'm not sure, you'll have to figure that out yourself if you wish to try it.
