[SCRIPT] LazCorp Military (Sector) Scanner V1.12 - *Updated 03/01/2008*

Post by Lazerath »

===========================================
Name: LazCorp Military Scanner
Version: V1.12
Author: Lazerath
Released: 04/11/2007 (dd/mm/yyyy)
Updated: 03/01/2007
Website: http://lazcorp.lazerath.com
===========================================

 Download Laz-Corp Military Scanner (Requires Cycrows Plugin Manager found Here!)

===========================================

Script Compatibility:

Vanilla X3 (Standard Installation)
XTM Mod
DDRS Mod
Has not been tested with other Mods but should work.

Script Adds:
Ship Menu Command: LazCorp Military Scanner (Additional Ship Command Menu)

LazCorp scientists have released an upgrade for the Navigational Command Software MkI on all M1, M2, TL, M7 and M6 class ships. This upgrade is classified as the LazCorp Military Scanner. The Navigational Command Software now uses the Transporter Device to transport Advanced Satelites 60,000 meters away from your ships current position in the sector. This is based off updated data collected from your ships Navigational Command Software every 3 Seconds. After 3 Seconds the Advanced Satellites will be transported to the next position.

The LazCorp Military Scanner upgrade uses a phenomenal amount of the ships power when it is in use. The Military Scanner will run for 36 seconds before it shuts down to recharge. The recharge time is approximately 60 seconds from the time it shuts down. During this time the Military Scanner is offline.

· This script adds the ability for the player to scan an extremely large area of a sector. It adds a command under the menu "Additional Ship Commands" called "LazCorp Military Scanner".

How it works: When this command is run, it will transport the 3 Advanced Satellites to updating coordinates 60,000 meters away from your ships current position in the sector.. The scan lasts for 36 seconds (Approximately).

The Animated Gif below shows how it works for v1.10 and higher

[ external image ]

Recap: Your ship must be

M1, M2, TL, M7 or M6

Recap: Your ship must have

Navigational Command Software MK1
Transporter Device
3 Advanced Satelites

If the ship running the command does NOT have the above on it the command will NOT show up.

 Ver 1.12 (New Release)

- Added Information to command. When you highlight the command (in game), press " i " to display information on how the command is used (in game).

Ver 1.11

- Scanner can now be run from ANY player owned M1, M2, TL, M7 or M6. The command will not run under any other class of vessel.

- The scanner can also be run at the same time on multiple vessels/ships. In other words you can be scanning the sector you are in and turn on the military scanner for your M6 in another sector and run the scanner at the same time.

- Further optimization of the script.

Ver 1.10

- Changed amount of Advanced Satellites needed from 4 down to 3

- Increased the distance for the military scanner from 30,000 meters to 60,000 meters.

- Changed how the scanner deploys the satelites. It deploys 3 Satelites at a time now covering a wedge shape (like a pie cut into 4 pieces).

The Animated Gif below shows how it works.

Ver 1.09

- Optimized Script
- Changed amount of Advanced Satellites needed from 8 down to 4
- Advanced Satellites Positions update every 3 seconds to match the ships current position in the sector.
- Scan now runs for 36 seconds with a 60 second recharge period after it has shutdown.
- Removes all Advanced Satellites in your cargo hold while the scan is running and the Recharge time has completed.

Ver 1.07
* Script Released
Command is available on all M2 Class Vessels
- Player must be in M2 Ship (will change this in a future release).
- M2 must have 8 Advanced Satellites in the cargo hold.
- M2 must have Navigational Command Software MKI installed.
- M2 must have Transporter Device Installed

I'd like to say thank you to all the guys who helped answer my questions and showed me lots of patience ;-).

Edit: Update Released!

I am very close to releasing an update to this Script. I've figured out how to have the Satelites position update with the ship (as it moves through out the sector). I've also changed the way the satelites are placed and the length of time.

If you are using this script please give me some feedback on the update I'm releasing soon. :D

Hmmmm.... I just had an idea.

Does anyone think that the scanner should be available on M6 or M7s? Of course it would have to be slightly different I think. Maybe use energy cells to compensate for the small power output of an M6 or M7. Plus a smaller range for the scanner (maybe it just uses normal nav sats?).

What if the scanner works more like a pulse wave that eminates from the ship every few seconds. Maybe the draw on the ships power from running the pulse takes certain ship systems offline or something like that?

Okay I am ready to release v1.10.

Here is what I have ready so far for the next update.

1. Increased the distance for the military scanner from 30,000 meters to 60,000 meters.

2. Changed how the scanner deploys the satelites. It deploys 3 Satelites at a time now covering a wedge shape (like a pie cut into 4 pieces).

The Animated Gif below shows how it works.

v1.10

Below is an animated image which shows another way I have set up the scanner to work. It works more like today's current radar stations. I like it but I am not sure if it will slow down computers that are already struggling to play X3.

[ external image ]
Or change v1.10 to my Idea above?

I'm still looking for ideas on how to improve this scripts or functions that people would like added.

Hey Garry,

Right click on the download link and choose "save as" or "save link as". The downloads work fine for me under Firefox and Internet Explorer 6.

If you have any probs with it, pm me your email address and I will email it to you!

*Update*

The following changes have been made to this script.

V1.11

- Scanner no longer removes Satelites from your cargo hold (there was a glitch in the system. If you ran the scanner and changed the mosquito missle defence by turning it on or off the satelites would not be returned to your cargo hold). The temporary removal of satelites may return in a future release.

- Scanner can Now be run on ANY player owned M1, M2, TL, M7 or M6 (Not just the ship the player is piloting).

- Scanner can Now be run Simultaneously on ANY player owned M1, M2, TL, M7 or M6 (Not just the ship the player is piloting).

- Further Script optimizations.

Of course, Feedback is always welcome!!

This is SO useful... and acts like a real scanner too!

I use it with XTM all the time and haven't had any issues.

Could you post the conflict for me? as it hasn't shown a conflict on mine and works great with XTM!

Sorry, I haven't had time to add a hotkey yet. I'm currently waiting on some new computer parts to come in.. (hopefully they arrive tomorrow). Once I have my new pc built I'll get to work on the hotkey upgrade.

Cheers!

I have the conflict shown in the plugin manager too, but so far had no problems.

The command slot is SHIP_34, which in XTM, is used for "OTAS group shield", as shown by the plugin manager, but i dont know what it is..

okay I've looked into this further.

There is nothing I can do about it aside from making it a command thats run through a message. Which at this point in time I don't want to do (I have something else in the works).

XTM doesn't have that command slot listed as being used (whats been submitted) unless it was overlooked by a moderator. Unfortunately there are not very many command slots left (there are so many mods/scripts out there).

The good news is I haven't had any problems with it, mind you I don't use the Otas Shield ship (which is bugged anyhow if I remember correctly).
