The dock master

Post by Whitegaurd »

Inspired by Luke Skyscaper who was in turn inspired by Simon Travaglia.

Have you ever wanted to work on a station? Well, if you have i suggest you reconsider...
I'm the docking master on a silicon mine. This is the utter most boring job you could possibly get. Why? I'll tell you why!
Every day you have to deal with about... hmm, say 40 people passing through. Now, first you have to check their records, their ship, their installed arnament and then their race reputation. Then after that you put on a nice big fake smile and say "Please come aboard" or some other line. It's not as easy as it sounds. First of all, you have to try not to repeat the same line twice other wise people might think you just have a sheet of paper in front of you just telling you what to say (I've got about 60 different replies on the sheet on my desk). Also, in a matter of seconds you have to scan the boarding ship and analyse the scan report.

Well, you get the drift, it's a very boring job. And you know what makes it worse? The steady hum of the Station's Drill digging deeper into the asteroid. It's not easy working with that in the backround. Plus, whilse your analysing the scan report occasionally the drill will collide with a hard chunk of rock and it makes a large clanging noise echo around the station aswell as setting off the Loud speaker which says "Engineering required by central Drill, Thankyou."

Trust me, if your not already working like me, keep it that way.

It's just another boring day again... You know whats worse? A dumb ass with an Argon Mammoth cleary doesn't know how to dock. He's blocking anyone from getting in. So now people are complaining and whining about how they're going to a different station. Then my boss comes and threatens to fire me if i can't come up with good reasons why they should stay. No one said they had to be true...
"Please be calm, we are going to have a 80% of sale the mammoth is just loading up some of our goods." I managed to relay the message to all the docking pilots... Unfortunately i accidently relayed it to the mammoth. He clearly didn't hear the whole message and he started rushing about trying to park. It was a disaster. If you thought tornados were bad, then you'd consider this a nightmare.
He starts backing up and rams into the ships waiting behind him quite succesfully blowing some of the smaller ones to smithereens! The first thought that came into my head was "boy... the boss aint gonna like this." Funny how your first thought is generally about yourself. Here i am watching pilots struggling to escape from explosions and an idiot in a mammoth and i'm worried about losing my dull, boring job. I don't even get payed well!
I put my legs onto of the control desk, lean back, and relax. May aswell make the most of my last day...
