Avarice Sector

Post by mayonnaiselad » Fri, 12. Oct 07, 17:32

Just won the Avarice Sector auction. When I dock at the Teladi trading station, the message that pops up simply reads, "readtext" with some numbers after it...

What is it suppose to say and what do I do?

When you dock at the trading station you need to finalize the deal for the sector. To get passed the read text error you need to reload last save before docking to the tradiong station and turn off autosave and then dock at the trading station again.

Better yet............reload a save from before you wasted all your hard earned cash buying something you can take for free!!!!!

Seriously, what exactly is the point of blowing a mind numbing amount of cash on that empty and desolate place? I guess it's in a relatively good location and all but is there really a point in spending 600+ million on it when I can just go set up shop in an Unknown sector :D

there is no point in buying the sector when you could just use it for free (as a lot of players do). But some players soon find that money becomes too much of a problem trying to figure out how to get rid of it, so why not own a unique piece of realestate?

If you have a problem with too much money my solution was simple.

Only reload if you die.

Its amazing how much re-buying destroyers and refitting them uses :) In fact at the beginning of an empire before it becomes self sustaining its a pain replacing things as sometimes you find yourself ina constant state of replacement with no growth.

Provides a solid challenge for those after more challenge in the game without doing the whole 'if you die you start again' thing.

When pulling in 300+M per day from missions and factory/trade income the fee for that sector becomes pocket change.

Maybe with the new 2.5 patch there will be some new credit sinks added so a player can deal with the "too much money" problem.

A few more selable sectors would help... what else can we do with spare change when youve got everything?

Well its the only time in an unscripted game that you can own a sector.

So buying it is an acheivement for some. Not everyone wants to add scripts.

There is a value in setting a goal and doing something difficult, ya' know. Personally, what turns me off about Avarice is simply that after you buy it, when you look at the universe map it still says its a Teladi sector! And when you kill pirates there, the Teladi still thank you! That really annoys me. I bought the sector, but it's still treated as if they own it. Makes me cry.

Goto agree with you there, i think it should also change colour in your sector map, just so you can see you own it.

On my universe map it shows Race: Carlo.

I haven't been in there to kill pirates though.

I actually payed 840,000,000 for it. ;) Scripting yourself loads of cash helps... :D

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them now.

I actually got an impression that the sector became too cheap in 2.x patch. In my game it is 7-th day, I got 1bil+ of cash and the complexes with ~180mil/day yield. And Avarice is not even yet available for purchase... As for the use of it, I plan to build the HQ and HQ support complexes there.

The absence of 'roids makes this sector a little overpriced I thought. As the BBS states:

"The price of vacuum".

I think this makes the sector more desirable, nothing to get in your way. In fact i always tow the TD away and blow it up just to clear the jump point for the traders.

Traders trading what? You have to ship goods in, or worse create complexes and have to ship in ore/silicon to keep them running.

I was only wishing the sector to have a couple of decent yeild roids to help sustain organic production
