Taxi Man Chapter 2

Bad Blood
Chapter 2

Ted liked the ideal the ship he wanted and being able to sleep at night. Ted and Dolly made ready as they boarded the Disco and drugged the woman as she started screaming when she seen Dolly. Knowing that her closing stages in life would be a slow drug induced death.

An hour later the message was made and Dolly would send it when they were in range of the sector satellites.
The woman was placed in a cell on the Lifter for safe keeping till Dolly returned.

Each one loaded their ships up for battle not knowing what to expect from their enemies.
Then set course for the west gate to lay in wait for their unsuspecting adversaries.

The message was sent they were in position now it was time to wait.

The gate would mask their ships for a few seconds giving them the element of surprise.
By the time they showed up on the enemies HUD two wasps would be hitting him and two more about to!

They were in pirate space if they were in the core sectors security forces would be on them in minutes.
Anything goes out here except trying to damage a gate and for that you die automatically, no trial no fine and no jail time just shot on sight.
So hiding above a gate can get you killed if you misfire and hit the gate so the trick is no to miss.

Seven hours and twenty-three minutes and a nap Dolly knew nothing about Ted seen one of the Mandalay fighters. Dolly and Ted fired one wasp then another.

The first two exploded on the Mandalay as the Pilot ejected just before the second two hit. The pilot was blown away into open space as the ship survived.
Dolly had shot a mosquito in her second folly.
Ted was pissed but the trick had worked they now had a Mandalay to sale, as he gritted his teeth and went on knowing better than to say anything.

The Bayamon was next through the gate and closely followed by the last Mandalay.
As Dolly engaged the Bayamon the Mandalay closed on her rear.
Much to his surprise Ted shot a folly of weapons fire into his shields. As the Mandalay turned to run to recover a shot up mule on autopilot registered to the Bayamon come dragging through the gate.

As the battle raged on and shot were taken on both sides Ted and Dolly took charge.

Their opponents had stopped calling them names and started begging and promising great reward if they were allowed to keep a ship and live.
Ted had been called a few names he had never heard before but was sure they were bad as he fired ounce more into the Mandalay.

Ted was unknown to their foes as they stopped firing and Ted told the Pilot to eject out of the Bayamon and board the Mandalay and leave and not come back this was his sector now.

Ted and Dolly backed off a little as the damaged ships drew close to each other.
The Pilot ejected from the Bayamon and had just boarded the Mandalay as Dolly said remember me I think I’ll just kill you and be done with it!

Dolly opened fire on the Mandalay as they tried to escape.
Turing them and the ship into dust and a few lose crates.

As Dolly clamed the two fighters and the mule with a remote unit from the cabin of her fighter.
She explained to Ted how she had bought the remote unit and a drone programmed to attack any enemy out of their ship from a Teladi. If she had one then they could be one on these ships.

Ted felt a little easier after Dolly showed a little concern about his well being. Ted didn’t trust anyone and especially a woman that would kill you for giving her a bad look.

Each scanned the captured ship for hidden loot and compared readings before docking and selling a ship with 1million in gold tokens onboard for 50,000.
Each fighter had a hidden lockbox onboard with tokens onboard but no big readings if there was 25,000 credits on both ships they would be lucky. But all things considered this would be a good split.

The Mandalay was in fair shape the Mule and Bayamon were shot up. Dolly explained how she planned on using the Mandalay to kill the two onboard the lifter and the one they pulled out of space to throw any investigation away from them.

The two decided to sell the two ships and split the take. Ted wanted the 5 meg shield of the Bayamon for a Freighter after this deal he could buy the Piranha Dolly had told him about and a cheap freighter.

They docked at a station to repair the Mule and install the 5 meg shield for Ted. While they were onboard Dolly sold the Bayamon to a mechanic.
The two settled up as Dolly turned ownership of the Mule over two Ted.
They agreed not to contact each other for a while. Ted was going to go back to the Argon Sectors and start a legit business.
Dolly was going back to drug running. Dolly told Ted she was going to get a jump-drive for her ship somehow as she set course back to her Lifter with the Mandalay following.

Ted took the Mule and his cut and headed for the Company Pride Equipment Dock to get the Piranha and some remote trading for the Mule.

The Mule drug along like a snail compared to the Disco. The Disco was fast and fast was the name of the game on most taxi runs.
Lots of higher paying clients wanted the security of the M4 class and the Piranha was fast and well shielded.
The M4 was slower but meant more pay for the ride.

After finely reaching the Equipment Dock Ted found the mechanic Dolly told him about and gave him the paper work with a note from Dolly.
Ted was eager to have a look at the Piranha as the Teladi looked at the papers for about the fifth time.

“Is there a problem with the papers?” Ted asked.

“You friend of Dolly? She say give you ship! Deal with her not you!” Then the Teladi tossed the papers back to Ted.

Ted picked up the papers as he reached in his pocket placing his hand on his pistol wanting to shoot the little lizard. Ted noticed Station Security was watching closely as he took his hand out of his pocket.
“Look maybe Dolly should come here and you can explain to her the reason you backed out on a deal!”

The Teladi Mechanic looked a little worried after hearing Dolly and deal.

“Dolly and Teladi close friends. Teladi trust Argon give me papers. I show you ship you show me credits.”
The Teladi escorted Ted to where the Piranha was docked.
The ship was a dark blue color the shields and weapons were there just as Dolly said. Ted went onboard the cabin, sleeper and passenger were very basic the speed was around 125m/s and the steering was 100%.
Ted wanted to upgrade the speed and interior to a super deluxe.
The Teladi explained how he had just returned from studying the new engine designs and maintenance.
Some of the new improvements could be inaugurated on the older engines.

Ted was interested now as he told the Teladi to go on and give details. The Taladi explain the new Boron M4 engine would max at 245m/s the Piranha would max at 192m/s. He believed that with the new enhancements the Piranha would max at 220m/s or better. And for 100,000 credits he would max-out the speed, steering, and cargo and install the deluxe cabin, sleeper and passenger compartments in two workday’s time.
And for 50,000 more he could increase the speed on the Mule to about 130m/s or better.

Ted noticed a Lifter in storage for sell. “Show me the Lifter first.”

As Ted looked over the Lifter it was a decent ship it had a 1075 unit cargo hull and a nice cabin and sleeper.
The Teladi explained how the man had lost it gambling.

Ted wanted the Lifter but he wanted it to go faster. The Teladi had explained how the Argon and Split engine were close and the new Split engine would go 189m/s while the Argon was only 150m/s.

Ted explained how he would like to trade the Mule in on the Lifter and keep his shields. And he thought he knew a man who could use the Split improvements on the Lifter engines.

The Teladi rubbed his claws together in a deep thought. After a while the Teladi looked at Ted and said. “Teladi trade for 60,000 credits and fix engines with Split parts. Teladi best in business! If Teladi can’t make Split parts work I max-out Argon engine and you pay 20,000 credits.”

Ted liked this ideal as he bumped knuckles with the Teladi saying it’s a deal.

Ted paid the Teladi the 475,000 credits for the Piranha and it’s upgrades. And agreed to pay the 60,000 for the Lifter when the job was finished.

Ted traded for two days using the Mule to build up some cash staying within one sector from the Equipment Dock. The Mule was slow going but the trading was good as Ted made over 60,000 credits profit in the time he was waiting on the repairs.

Ted docked to pick up his new ships as the Teladi walked up ready to show off his handy work.
The Teladi had done it. The Lifter would go 170m/s and the Piranha would go 235m/s.

The Teladi had the shields transferred onto the Lifter as he tried to sell Ted a used 5 meg shield.

Ted wanted the shield as the two haggled over the price. After a while Ted paid for the ship and was leaving as the Teladi not wanting to lose a sale gave in and took the deal and the credits.

Ted was on his way to a new lifestyle as a freelance trader and taxi business. Ted loaded the Lifter up with energy cells from the neighboring sector. And headed for Light of Heart to sell them at top price. While hiring a merchant plot for the Lifter and a pilot to run taxi missions in the Disco.

Ted registered the new ships with Argon Security after selling the energy cells at top price.

After talking to a few pilots Ted had found two young Navy pilots looking to make a new life working for a privet business. The Lifter was to stay away from the Pirate sectors and ships and not to go over three sectors away and never north through the Pirate sector no matter how good the deal was.
The Disco was a taxi if the money was good go anywhere, but no Pirate Bases.

After a few days of worrying passed, Ted started filling okay about having people working for him after the credits started coming in.

Four weeks later and the Disco Pilot wants to buy the ship. He had capped a Mandalay and picked up two crates full of missiles. Five hornets and ten silkworms along with the Mandalay and all his savings he had managed to accumulate 73,000 credits.

Ted asked a few more questions about the ship he capped and the battle. As Ted listened and asked about every detail he discovered that he had helped Argon Security which would have been all right if it had been a drunk or a loner! No they had intercepted a Clan convoy and worst of all let one get away.

Now all of that Clan would be looking for the Disco and the hotshot fighter that took their ship and supplies.

Ted took the credits as he told the young Pilot not to start a war with the Pirates he’s a taxi driver now. Ted shook the Mans hand as they parted. Ted with the credits and the Hotshot with a Clan looking for him and his Disco.

Ted was upset over the careless actions of the Pilot. He contacted his Lifter Pilot and told him what had happened and advised him to be on the alert.

Ted had lost a Pilot and ship but when a Man starts fighting Pirates in an M5 he won't last long. The young man had all ready capped a ship and had a burning itch to cap some more.
Ted could buy another ship and hire a new Pilot that the Clan wasn’t looking for.

Ted took a swig of his drink as he thought good look wild man it was time to buy a new model Disco anyway.
