[STORY] A Pirate's Tale Part V

Post by Black_Sails »

Parts I-IV are in first post ([Story] Pirate's Tale)

Part V: The Trail
Scar had little time to make his decision. He could attempt to hack his way into the Corvette and try to escape from the hostile battlecruiser. Or he could find a faster, smaller ship and make his way back to The Redemption..if it still existed. He looked quickly about the massive hangar bay. He jerked his head towards the nearest blast door-already white hot metal was melting-the pirates must have been using plasma cutters in an attempt to breach the blast doors. Scar jogged across the hangar deck-the corvette would not be a wise option. Not only was he unsure of being capable of handling such a large ship without a crew, he also wasn’t sure what security measures were in place onboard. As he jogged across the hangar deck, he fumbled his hands on his combat webbing belt. He found what he was looking for-his hacker pad. Once he located a suitable ship (not a Nova-he hated Nova’s) he could easily crack the ship’s computer systems and register himself as the owner.

He slowed his jog as he passed the berthed Novas. Just abit farther down the deck lay exactly what he required- in slightly larger docking cages then the Novas sat several modified Blastclaws. Perfect, he whispered to nobody in particular. Glancing back over his shoulder, he checked out the pirates progress. They appeared to be halfway through the blastdoor. He had little time.

Scar attempted to enter the docking cage. It was a secure docking device used for decks located onboard stations and large space vessels. The Pirate’s were not the only group that used these docking cages. He placed his hand on the palm scanner…what the hell he thought, why not try. “Access denied. Please re-provide identification.” An idea struck Scar. He jogged back across the room to the remains of the Pirates that he had blasted with his exploding Kea. Hurredly picking through their remains he found what he was looking for-a hand. He grinned and ran back with the hand to the docking cage. Placing the bloody hand on the palm scanner he prayed it would work. “Access granted…proceed.” And proceed he did-walked quickly up the stairway to the cockpit, he planted his hackerpad onto the outer blister of the Blastclaw. He quickly keyed in a few instructions, and used a brute-forcing tool to gain access into the cockpit. Essentially the brute-force application enters in thousands of possible password combinations in a matter of seconds. “Code accepted. Powering up sub-systems.” Now for the last bit of his dirty work.

Scar jumped into the cockpit, searched for a data terminal and extended a connection cable from his hackerpad. Using a program he himself wrote, he entered in a complex data algorithm that was capable of breaking the hardcoding of the ship. Scar’s program successfully broke into the Blastclaw’s system in no less then 15 seconds (a new personal record) and asked a few simple questions in a simple metallic tone.

“Please speak the new name of the ship”

“Red Haze” he replied quickly, glancing over at the blastdoor. The Pirates had nearly broken through.

“Please speak the name of the new owner”

“Malias Kingford III”, he said, enunciating his rare-spoken name clearly.

“Records reset. Ship’s name is Red Haze. Ship owner is Malias Kingford III. Application terminated”, the hackerpad finished its final system settings and disconnected itself from the ship’s terminal.

Scar attempted a verbose command to the Blastclaw. “Computer, begin engine startup sequence. Power up primary weapon systems. Close blister and give me a readout of onboard cargo. Set nickname to Scar”
“Affirmative Scar. Engine systems powering up. Weapon systems are charging. Closing access hatch. Onboard cargo includes food rations, approximately 100 units of spacefuel, one jumpdrive kit, 50 energy cells, 5 hornet missiles, 5 Misquoto missiles and 9 silkworm missiles. Onboard extensions include freight scanner, software signature scrambler, fight control MK2, Navigation Command MK2, boost extension, SETA, and Virus Injection system” Replied the ships computer in a soft feminine voice.

Excellent, Scar thought. Virus injection system? He didn’t have time to
ask just yet- he glanced back over at the Pirates progress-he didn’t have to look. A loud clang annunciated throughout the hangar deck as the remainder of the blast door keeled over in a cloud of smoke and coughing Pirates. Scar didn’t take any chances, he roared the Blastclaw out of the docking cage, turned to face the armed Pirates, cycled a fresh missile into his launch tubes, and gave the pirates a taste of his fury. After a large explosion of fire and red mist from the vaporized pirates, Scar grinned in satisfaction. Red Haze was a perfect name for the ship.

“Computer, set course to 25 KM away from the ship in any direction.”

“Affirmative Scar. Requesting permission to use Virus Injection device to force open hangar deck doors?” the computer asked calmly.

“Permission granted. How exactly does it work?” he added.

“Displaying Virus Injection Software Summary on monitor 2….”

Scar quietly red the glowing red text as the computer automatically hacked the Pirate ship

Damn... That was good, give me more NOW! No, seriously, that was brilliant. I hope to be seeing more writing from you, and the continuation of the story. I love the pirate side of the X-universe.
