there is a trick to find it easily.

just go in the general direction once you think your close then have one of your ships jump to you.
the AI always choses the closest gate even if you dont know it

Its actually off the map. Zoom out as far as you can, then go west until half the scanner range is off the map.

Triplex of course. Duplex will never find it.

The co-ordinates are (-181,0,0). Fly in the general direction and you'll probably see it before you sense it.

and when you get there, drop a navsat,
so you can find it again if you need to..

You dont need to. Once you found it the first time, it remains on the nav map. You just list, find, select and auto.

Another way to find jumpgates that are "off the map", is to use the jump and fly to position command. Select the target coordinates in the area you think the gate might be, and your ship will use the previously undiscovered jumpgate. While that's pretty much what crawlerw suggested, doing it yourself is faster since it saves the time flying around.

Been there, repeatedly -- poking along at 150-200 m/s way out into BFE wondering if the west gate is actually west of the east gate.. ;) It's almost as bad as
