chapter 3 of my story

Chapter 3 : WARP SPEED

The ship surged forward into a dazzling blue hole, then it vanished moving at light speed around the system.
“God that was quick, report”
“We’re travelling at warp speed, approaching first planet in 5 mizauras.”
“Scanners show clear of any ships seeing the flash, following us or taking any interest in the freighters coming through.”
“Sir, Engineering reports that we can not hold WARP speed for more than 20 mizauras at a time, with 5 mizauras cool down when we come out. There is one problem though, when we come out of warp to cool down the engines have to be taken off line, we will be left with only half thrusters.”
“if we came out of WARP at ever planet would we have to take engines off line.”
“no but we would have to orbit the planet until the 5 mizauras have past.”
“Helm, change of plan, we are to orbit the planet until engines can be used, while doing this we can get detailed scans of the planets.”
“New course laid in sir.”

3 mizauras later

“Sir the cloaks fluctuating, the WARP engines drawing to much power from other systems, it wont last more than 5 mizauras.”
“Once the cloak fails, how many ships are there between us and the planet?”
“5 M2s, 30M3s and tens of M5s. Sir we’d have to drop into normal space about a mizaura from the planet.”
“Could we take them?”
“If we gave everything a chance to recharge after each capital ship, yes we would.”
“If we dropped the cloak and diverted that power to engines, could we hold WARP speed for longer?”
“If we diverted it to the cooling system we would, we’d probably get a faster speed as well.”
“Can they detect us while we’re at WARP?”
“Yes, but there’s nothing they can do about it”
“Do It”

As the captain gave this command the ship de-cloaked and its weapons started glowing an orangey tang. Torpedo tubes all over the ship opened and loaded the latest torpedoes. Shields energised with a blue glow that lit up the hull and the space around it. The captain was walking around nervously checking various consoles coming to rest on his chair.

The ship juddered violently, throwing everybody about. Sparks flew from the ceiling.
“Sir we’re losing power!”
“DISENGAGE ENGINES NOW!” screamed the captain
“There’s still 3 destroyers in between us and the planet.”
“Just Do it”

The ship was thrown from hyper-space with gut wrenching speed, rotating in space before power came back. Correcting their course the helms officer set a course for the nearest destroyer. Gaining speed as they went.
“30 sezauras until weapons range.”
“Fly evasively; fire any weapon that comes into range.”

The two ships closed at a combined speed of nearly 1000MPS.
“Weapons range attained”
“FIRE!”
The Excelsior fired it new weapons at the xenon destroyer, orange beams flying across space to hit the xenon’s shields. They glowed continuously under the fire before the Excelsior fired missiles at it as well. The xenon’s shields collapsed under the bombardment, missiles started hitting the un-protected hull with devastating impact. The ship started glowing as the Excelsior shot past it, gaining distance before the xenon ship exploded.
The Weapons systems picking off fighters as they approached.
“Shields at 85%, Destroyer 2 coming from behind, Destroyer 3 from our port side and a fourth has just emerged from behind the planet.”
“Which is closest?”
“Destroyer 3”
“Target and change course accordingly, fire off missiles in groups of 4, weapons fire at maximum range.”

Even as he spoke, missiles where flaring to life and speeding from the missiles launches, lighting up the hull as they went. As the Excelsior raged towards the battleship, something happened, something the xenon shouldn’t have done.
