An update of the No Trash BBS mod for version 2.02. Original mod by Ryuujin.
This mod removes all the static "news" items from the BBS engine. You will only see missions, lotteries, other interactive offers, and real news about economic events or station creation & destruction. The mod can be used on a saved game -- just go to a new sector and the stations will generate their BBS. It is also good as a "false patch" as well for use with other mods.
(I'm back in X3 after a long absence, and plan to get back into the scripting thing. If anyone out there still uses my SAS or RSwE scripts, expect updates soon! I have some ideas for new stuff as well. Version 2 is rockin my world, really put new life in the game!)

This mod only removes generic news stories already in x3. New BBS stuff added by scripts or mods will be unaffected. In fact, they will probably show up a lot more often if they don't have independent probability checks.

I just looked at overtune specifically, and it uses custom text pages for BBS entries, in other words have nothing to do with the generic news texts. All of cycrow's scripts seem to be the same, and since he made the original prototype for the BBS system I bet most other scripts do the same.

Yup, I didn't do anything original here. But I looked around and didn't see a prepackaged mod already done for non-modders. I was the one who made the 1.4 version when the original author disappeared and had been hosting it, so I figured I would do the update if anyone still wanted it.There's 9 lines that remove the news: 2032-2040.

im quiet new to installing mods... so... how do you install this?
what is "false patch"?
where's the 440001.xml file? all i see are 2 files with the sama name "No_Trash_BBS_20" (one's a security catalog, the other is a dat file), plus the readme.

c - find the biggest numbered combination of cat/dat files in the x3 directory (main directory)
d - rename both the cat/dat files into one number higher than the highest that is currently there.
e - move the mod (now a pair of 10's, or 11's, or some number) into the main x3 directory.
f - load game
g - ???
h - PROFITS!

I dont know of the top of my head, however, if you use doubleshadow's mod manager, and check what files are used in xtm and the no trash bbs mod, you can see...Lex0871 wrote:will it work with xtm.7a ?
Worst case, you will have to use the text editor to manually compare the two files - finding what is new in xtm, and what is gone in no-trash-bbs, and manually remove what no-trash-bbs removed.
