Space Flies destroy my ship !

While in Seta, on the way to a Pirate station I was drinking coffee and casually approaching when suddenly outside view of my ship comes up and boom I watch as my ship breaks up and dies...

All these whizzing little things zip about the ship before the screen of doom appears to signify game over.

I know there has been talk about these things before but do they really do so much damage to a space craft... how big are these fly's ???.. are they armor plated or something ??...if so these ARE SERIOUS BUGS ! ...ha!...

Now that's if they where Space Flies, never approached a Pirate station yet until now do they have other forms of defence I have missed perhaps ?, nothing was actually on Radar either.

they are the size of a small bird and yes I too have had my ship damaged by them not the point of destruction of my ship but guns etc being damaged

I'm assuming you didn't have any shields installed, because i've never once taken hull damage from a fly even with only a 1MW shield installed. I suppose you could have by some huge fluke ran into a khaak-like cluster of flies, but more likely it's a shielding thing.

Still quite a virgin in the X universe at the moment...

I have only 2 1MW shields installed and have been generally investigating the universe and having a mooch getting the odd cargo pod or two instead of mass trading or fighting.. (stand no chance in fighting in the current state my ship is in anyways).

Might have been a gascloud combined with some flies? Ie. the gas killed the ship, but you saw flies so blame them.

Probably i went through the nebulae in Herrons Nebulae IIRC yesterday and my hull dropped like hell.

It also annoys me a bit to have constantly upgrades destroyed, neither due to Khaak or Xenon but spaceflies.

So

it is, it IS annoying, especially if the uprade was an expenive one.

Sure you didn't have your cargo bay open when it happend?
The space flys will ram your ship to peices without shields. With shields you are protected.

They can also ram you into other things, which will cause more damage.
