New ship "STARBURST"

Does anyone know if this ship is worth going after ...I mean to claim? I know the M7 is supposed to be the top dog in the "updated/bonus packaged" X3 but still... I was wonderin' (no Spoilers please ...thanks) :)

the short time I flew it it seems worth having, if not for else then sector patrol as it beats the good old elephant in that. besides you can be sure that no one else in your universe has that ship.

but where did you get the "claim" idea?

The M7 is absolutely worth it.

The Starburst is just for thrills and taxi missions, no gun mounts and bugger all cargo capacity.

Not seen this ship anywhere. While i'm here, how the hell do you cap the lx? I've used bpacs on everyone, (killed about fifty), but the buggers won't bail!

I hate to say it, but keep trying. I destroyed a whole bunch of them before I finally got one (and only one). I used an Eclipse to get it, but I'm sure that doesn't matter.

that may sound harsh, but it's a matter of odds...you'll have to kill a lot of 'em before one bails, some poeple haveb een lucky, but that's it, they were 'lucky'. It is after all a random(ish) event. I went on the rampage in a Xenon sector, all flak firing from my python and capped three in one go the other day...got an M2? I've capped about 5 now, all of 'em with flak.

bPACs aren't the best capping weapons either. Get some PBEs for shields and IREs for the hull.
I capped the first one I saw, but then again I usually cap 100+ ships/game day.

I captured a few LX's with my Python. The AFAA and BFAA's did it. Probably the AFAA's. When their shields are down, they explode pretty quick.

Enter a Xenon sector and just keep blasting.

use a titan with BPBEs all around. best capping ship in the game.

The weapon doesn't really matter. It's only relevant to what you're shooting at. I've had pilots bail when I was shooting at them with the starter disco with 4 AIREs on it.

I have all sorts of ships donated to me using nothing but BHEPTs too. Even scored one bailout on a Buster with a single hurricane missle.


As been said 1000 times, there's no one magic formula. Either they're going to jump, or they're not. What you're shooting at them really doesn't matter a whole lot, as I've had them jump using nearly every weapon in the game with the same sort of "reliability". Which usually averages out to 1 in 10. For every 10 ships I kill, 1 might give me his keys. This has been true over almost a year of playing, and several game months' worth of killing.

I have to agree with fud about the capture rate, I get most of my captures when I roam xenon sector with python but that's just because I do that ALOT, and since AFAA/BFAA only give M3 class ships few hits before they die or turn blue it really can't be related on ammount of hits you score on the hull.

is starburst same as arrow? I never bothered to check the ships model I just claimed all freebies I had space for when I retrieved the M7.

The Starburst is slightly different model-wise, if memory serves. Tho, it's still the small faster-than-s**t race ship as the Arrow (similar stats).

Very handy piece of kit to have for exploring. 1400m/s covers quite a bit in a small amount of time.


It's sorta like the SR-71 of X3. It's unarmed, relatively un-shielded, but it matters not as nothing can catch it, including most, if not all missles. :)

But the Starburst has much greater acceleration--a Starburst WITHOUT a boost device will get up to full speed in less than 3 seconds, whereas an Arrow takes much longer to hit full whack even WITH a boost device.
