Beginning Dump of Physical Memory - KMODE_EXCEP.....

Post by DHCP »

I am getting the following error message when running the X2 on IBM PCs

Beginning dump of physical memory
*** STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005), 0xBFA1CE6D, 0x00000000, 0x00000002)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
*** Address BFA!CE6D base BF9F7000, DateStamp 3957e78c - s3savg4.dll

Seems to be the video driver.

I have the same problem on the following machines: - NetVista, 300PL, 300GL and T20 Thinkpad (I will test others and let you know).

Regards

Dave

Definitely appears to be an access violation in the video driver. Does updating the driver help, or aren't there any new drivers available for an S3 Savage4?

OS and Drivers

Post by DHCP »

NetVista: - Running Win2000 and NVidia Vanta (Microsoft driver 9/30/1999) (nv4)

300GL: - Running Win2000 and SR9 Xtreme 16MB SGRAM (S3 Incorporated 26/06/2000) I updated it to 06/09/2000 which is the last version created I think??? Version 5.12.1.0 both (s3savg4m).

I will check the other machines and give you those specks as well.

I thought the minimum spec was 32 MB Video card? Or is this one of those *share Ram with the CPU* things?

It does actually work with 16MB of VRAM. My laptop has got a Radeom Mobility 7500 with 16MB and does the job.

My box just says "nVidia GeForce, ATI Radeon, or 3D cards of the same grade". I'd say that an S3 Savage4 most definitely doesn't come into the same grade as a GeForce or a Radeon, but whether that could be the reason for the problems is open to question.

DirectX 8.1

Post by DHCP »

Well we got our Monster Machine (I don't have the specs yet) working, we installed DirectX 8.1 and it worked, I'll check out the details and test it on the other machines.

I had that same problem once, when i was in the simulator it restarted my PC, and done a dumprep, it's the same problem.

And i have:

P4 3.2ghz
2048 Corsair ram
FX 5950 Ultra 256mb gc
Latest drivers.

But i only had it once in about 12 hours of game play. And i also get the freezing problem too.

We have upgraded the NetVista with a 3D card and installed DirectX8.1 and it now works fine, although we noticed (on the other high spec machine) that after 1 hour of play we were dumped straight out to Windows. This hasn't happended since although we haven't been able to play for more that 2 hours at a stretch (Work, girlfriends and drink keep getting in the way).
