NEWS: Steaming ahead - more languages for X² and X³
A little while ago we reported that X²: The Threat and X³: Reunion were available via Steam. Unfortunate for some both games were only available in English language.
After the success of the English versions we are now happy to announce that more language version are now offered on Steam.
Newly available languages are:
- German (Voice and text)
- French (Voice and text for X³, text only for X²)
- Italian (text only)
- Spanish (Voice and text)
If you already have an English version from Steam you can switch to one of these languages free of charge by adjusting the language in your Steam configuration.
New customers will automatically receive the game in their selected language.
The same notes as for the English version apply:
The game is already up to date, you do not need to install any patches!
Game registration is not required. To download bonus content please sign up for a forum account (you need to be logged in in order to download bonus content or manuals)

Let me be one of the first people to say THANK YOU for making the game available via steam. Not only was the price right, but it didn't have Starforce. I refuse to buy Starforce-protected products after having a bad experience, but I've nothing against Steam.
So I finally bought X3. I think I've worn my copy of X2 out completely now, since I think I've seen the entire universe in it
You guys are awesome. Keep up the good work.

Re: Steam
This has been answered many times already, including in one of the other sticky threads.Ratalon wrote:Is there a way to make our CD'd copy into a Steam copy?
I wouldn't mind not having to deal with the CD and not worry about possibly losing one of the 5 CDs it came with.

You can run different languages in the text using a command line parameter (e.g. -language 44) or by editing the lang.dat file (e.g. 44) where the number represents the language using the international dialing code. This changes the in-game text, but obviously not the speech since this is too big for all languages to be included on the disk. Note that the number of text languages available may vary a little between versions.

Nice idea but the speech files are among the largest files used by the game. People who are downloading the game anyway are not going to be worried by that, but people who buy the disk version are often not happy about downloading patches, so downloading huge voice files too is not really going to appeal to many of them.

well they would be optionial...its for thoes who cant buy the game in one language and really need/want in another...so that way if some one doesnt realy want to download patches they can get what they need/want and what other stuff they dont need/want they dont have to download (thats the beauty of being able to download patches and updates)...
