NEWS: Egosoft enters the age of Steam

Post by CBJ » Sat, 22. Jul 06, 23:39

No, we're not developing a train simulator, nor has a new race appeared in the X-Universe with steam-powered spacecraft!

In order to bring both X²: The Threat and X³: Reunion to the widest possible audience, there is now a new way to buy them that means you don't even have to leave your seat. Just head over to Steam where you can purchase both games for download directly to your PC. No more disks and an excellent price, especially for those who act quickly.

Since the Steam version does not include a registration code, access restrictions on forums and downloads relating to X³: Reunion have been lifted.

The Steam versions of X² and X³ don't use Starforce, no.

Wow, impressive. Hopefully that'll hit a new audience that wouldn't have necessarily tried such games. Nice to see X alongside such a widely accepted title like Half life 2 for that reason alone.

Props to whoever sealed that deal ;) Brilliant news.

Good point, whoever had the idea and made the deal deserves a pay rise and share options. This is the best idea since bread let alone sliced bread. I hope it goes well for Egosoft, just make sure those updates are available or you will have 6 months of moaning like you did last time

Will all the modifications and tools that work with the DVD version work with steam? Since it automatically updates it may try to overwrite changes files. In the same context, does it have the same file structure and launch menu?

Can I register the copy I already own (bought from store) on STEAM so that everything's nicely together?

To be honest Erius if it is just file structure I'm sure they will work, if not the guy's in S&M will be able to change them very easily.
Oh and I think it has already been said but maybe not in this post, but just because you have the DVD/CD's does not mean you can use X3 with Steam. I think you have to buy it through Steam to use it through Steam.

I don't see why not. As far as I know, the file and folder structure for the game itself is no different than the DVD version.

That's a pain... Firstly since it'd be easier to manage patches with STEAM and secondly I don't have to have that fkin CD in the drive each time I play. PLUS I can install it wherever the hell I please, providing I log in with STEAM... Oh well...

Understandable. However, I can tell you that there will be a no-DVD patch for the regular version of X³. I just don't know when that will be...
