Ok, I'm just taking a guess here until somebody wiser can answer you. It sounds like it could be a codec problem. Maybe the one you installed is conflicting with one you already had installed?
The music is all in mp3 format and is in a folder called 'Soundtrack' in your X2 folder. Try playing some of them using your favourite mp3 player and see whether it is still scratchy.

have the same problem..... well, codecs..... at a first time the music went very well....... then suddenly w/o it went bad!
I've restored my Windows XP image back, which that time has no codecs installed...... MP3 files are ok, but it was still the same problem in the game. I've then re-installed by scratch X2TheThreat...... so far it works..... yet.....

I have exactly the same problem. It only plays at like 100x speed at some sectors like the ore belt, herons nebula, red light & cloudbase southwest. I had the same problem with the previous x-games. Could be some codec, but I find it suspicious that not all music files have this problem. I rather see a solution from egosoft. thx

Bump.
Same exact problem, in those same sectors. Anyone figured out reason/solution yet?
