Mobile Drilling System, What for?

I have put the Mobile Drilling System, Ore Collector and Mineral Scanner on my Mercury. All I get is the Mobile Drilling System listed as freight with install the only option for it besides eject. I have targeted, scanned and done everything I can think of to use the Mobile Drilling Systems with an astoriod??? What am I doing wrong or how does this thing get used. The book is extremely vauge. Need help.

Enter your ship menu "S" and then press "G" to go to the weapons list

IIRC the mercury cannot equip a mobile drilling system but other ts ships can.

You then fly to an asteriod and "fire" until it breaks up , then collect the ore

Special command software makes this easyier

IIRC only the Split and Paranid TS ships can actually use the Mobile Drilling System.

damn so no argon type ships can mount the hardware? lol then why do they sell it in the system? if they cant use it its gonna be a specality item, and from what ive seen ore is definately not a rare thing...so i dont understand.

oh well i didnt make the game i just bought the thing.

I think three Freigthers and all but one TL can mount the Drilling System somewhere.
