Any chance there would be a way to make a station that you could buy different paint jobs at? It would have to be a mod, but it would work well I think.

you would have to buy a new ship with that paint job rather than "respray" your currnet ship, as each custom paint job requires its own model

eg the pirates have use a diffent model than the argon ships

thats my understanding of it

so if you wanted a place that sold ships with different paints you got just make a shipyard that sold those different coloured ships. but you would have to make 5 or 6 new buster models for example with these paint jobs, any one if im wrong please feel free to correct me

I have no idea how to mod or script, but that sounds like a good idea. Add to each shipyard another ship, such as Argon Prime could now also stock Nova's with police paintjobs. The Teladi would probably sell the pirate paintjobs, or the other races could sell them back and say they were captured.
Just an idea there for any modders wanting to try.

if if the ship is all ready in the game all you need is some scripting knowledge

to add ships to the ship yard

stevio's shipyard script has added all the ships in the game for sale to a shipyard,
its not so much modding as painting textures on to the ship as you dont need to make new models just re-texture them (correct me if im wrong agian as ive never read the stickies) and save them as a new ship,

well, u could make it to you can send a ship to a shipyard to get a new paintjob

but u will be limited to the paintjobs that are currently in the game.
if you want more, you would have to mod them in first

How would you do that? since skins are tied to Tships entries afaik this would mean destroying the ship and spawning a new one...which would also mean you'd have to transfer cargo etc.

Edit; my bad, they are not tied to the entry itself so it is possible.

well, yes, u can use a script to esecially swap the ships with the new paint job

its easilly done, spawn a new ship, transfer cargo and destroy old one
of course, u need to not be in the ship when it happens, but other than that it should work

That sounds like what I was thinkinng about. Maybe just a factory somewhere that you could send ships, without ever going there yourself. Would there be a way of making the different paint jobs actual wares, and have them for sale, or am I getting carried away here?
Still, if anyone did that then it would definetely add something to the game.

yes, u could make it wares, what u'll need to do is create a ship for each type of paint job you want, then create a ware for each of the paint jobs

how you coudl get it to work is load the paintjob ware into the ship and send it to the station, it can then be changed to the newship with its paintjob based on the ware in the cargo bay

Or just make one more use for Terracorps, as i have yet too really need to visit it, but i would love too be able to get diffrent paintjobs, the basic silver/red/othercolour doesnt really hit it for me.

You can get some understanding of the process from my instructions in the thread: http://forum2.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=1511098#1511098

Here is the paintjob I came up with after one long day of never having done this before. It's not the greatest, but it's what I did to learn the procedure. Later I want to do a new paintjob with my logo and perhaps some text blazzoned across the side of the ship so that the everyone in the whole Galaxy will know exactly who they are dealing with in case they are foolish enough to even think about messing with me.
