IMPORTANT: Update to 1.2.01 for Win 98SE and ME users only

Post by The_Abyss »

Following the recent update 1.2.01 it was discovered (with a lot of help from everyone here!) that clearly there was a fault with the update for users of Windows 98 SE and ME.

The new download fixes these problems. Even better, you just need to download the new update and install it over whatever 1.2 version or higher you have already.

IMPORTANT: Any other Windows users should NOT install this update as there are no added fixes nor features added.

Unfortunately I am suffering identical symptoms with this new version of the patch. Comparing the old version and the new version shows they are identical in filesize to the byte, and the only visible difference is the timestamps.

Here is a comparative screenshot of the two patch files, with the old one on the left and the new one on the right.

Then whatever has been transferred to your computer is NOT the updated patch.
The new patch is larger than the old one.

Please go to the download page and check again, the correct installer is definetely online.

The updated 1.2 -> 1.2.01 patch has a size of:
23.5 MB (24,687,835 bytes)

Either the file got cached or the wrong file was placed for download, because now the correct file has come through.

It would appear that some sort of proxy caching system between our server and your end is to blame here.
To avoid further problems of the same nature I have now changed the name of the files slightly.

Windows 98 patch worked.

The update from 1.2 to 1.2..01 worked perfectly for me. I only got the game yesterday, applied both updates, and in fact the game runs pretty well on my somewhat antiquated system (win98 and pixel shader 1.3).

Many thanks.

Off Topic: I like the way the date on the news is crimson when the news is new, and orangy when it's a couple of days old, cream if more, and white if it is way back... very fun.

How do you do that thing with pixel shaders i.e. making them 2.0 or 1.3? Does anyone have a link?

Thanks

Thanks for sorting it out so quickly. Downloading it now..

(rustamk: Riva Tuner will let you fiddle with pixel shaders. If you are unsure, post a new thread in the TS forum, this is probably not the best place...)

OK great BUT, the older version of .01 was ok for XP but not SE & ME. But the only patch downloads you offer are the new version of .01. Which you say XP users should NOT install. So what the hell are we supposed to download and install? Where is the original version of .01 :?:

Just interested for when i'm actually able to get past the ''X3.EXE has encountered an problem, and needs to shut down'' major problem (which i might add the tips given, do not work as i tried them all and more).

Stay safe.

You've misunderstood. WinXP users shouldn't bother to download and install the new patch 1.2.01 if they already have the old one. It doesn't mean you shouldn't download it if you don't have 1.2.01 at all.
