Dear all,

I have noticed that no stories have been posted for at least a week! So I have decided to post this as a “trailer” to my new story based upon the bounty hunter Captain Graaf from Destiny’s Dawn. It acts only as an introduction to the first part of the story so you will have to wait to see what happens.

Regards,

GG.

Prologue:

[System Police dept, Free Argon Trading Station, Cloudbase South East]

The Argon police inspector rubbed his eyes, then poured him self another cup of Boron kelp bean coffee. It was the early stazuras of the galactic standard morning and he had been on shift for several stazuras already. It had been a busy night. Several brawls had taken place after closing time in the bars of the Trading Station requiring constables to break them up. There had been several arrests, which meant mountains of paperwork. If that was not enough there was also the usual prostitutes and small time space-weed dealers that needed processing. As ever his cells were nearly full.

For the fortieth time that night, he signed the form that would have a criminal locked in a cell until the courts opened later in the morning. As he sat waiting for the next arrestee, he saw a group of his officers leading a man straight into one of the interview rooms. The prisoner caught his eye as standing out from the usual perpetrators. “Take over from here,” he ordered a duty sergeant.

He walked through the crowded foyer towards the cluster of officers. “So tell me about this new one.” He asked the arresting constable, as he stared through one-way glass at the grim Argon male who was locked in the interview room. The man appeared to be in his forties, several old scars broke up his otherwise handsome face.

“It seems the government has a file pages long on this guy, Sir. We arrested him shooting up a bar in the lower levels. Hull knows how he smuggled his weapon past security.” The constable replied. He sounded almost impressed by the tall stranger, the inspector thought.

“Well I imagine we’ll be adding a few more pages then.” The inspector said. “I do not approve of people ‘shooting up’ any establishments on my station.”

He looked again at the man. The prisoner seemed perfectly relaxed despite being in trouble with the police. His feet were propped up on the small table in the room as he rocked back on his chair. What disturbed the inspector most was the man seemed to have locked eyes with him through the glass. He actually flinched away for a moment and then the inspector vigorously shook his head as if to clear it, no one could see through the window from the other side.

“Did he cause much problem to the team when they came to arrest him?”

“No sir,” the constable replied. “Actually he seemed rather amused and caused no trouble even when we cuffed him.”

The inspector looked back through the glass at the man. It was unnerving how calm the prisoner seemed. There was no arrogance about the man but he seemed so at ease for someone likely to spend the next few mazuras on a penal colony.

“I had better read the prisoner’s file before I go and interview him. I am sure it will provide some insight.” The inspector shrugged. “What did you say his name was?”

“Oh, Graaf, that’s the name he gave, Captain Graaf.” The sergeant replied.

The inspector picked up his datapad and began to read…
