Should X3 Reunion implements some goodies from Freelancer
First of all, I like to say that I prefer Egosoft Games series. Is more complete, and a real open end universe, more enjoyable
This the third time I play the game since I bought it.
But is good to say that Microsoft freelancer had many things that I loved, and are not in the x universe.
I hope that Egosoft may use some for the x3 game

Now, if he'd said unique ships or somesuch, maybe.
But I don't see the point of 'unique' weapons in a game like X2 where you can fly practically every ship you see. And every ship type has it's own unique mix of weapons already. I really don't need to find a BFG to kill everything that flies or floats.

actually something I thought was supperior in Freelancer was the interface, how you jumped to maps and selected what you needed. Also how the ships were flown and targetted... and weapons should have farther range as well as higher speeds. I love X2 but the speed the shells of the x2 HEPTs come out and their range is just pathetic.

Perhaps trade lanes as a secondry consideration. As for the rest, i wouldnt think twice about them. Thinking of X using them once is bad enough.
If you want to freelancer style stuff your going to have to give up some things.
Like
1) No M1s M2s or M6s
2) Once you own the best ship, thats it, your done.
3) Khaak weapons will be the only thing people care about.
4) Youd lose the X2 ship ballancing that I think currently beats Freelancers hands down.
5) Plantary docking was far from ideal in freelancer. Not sure why its even included.
On the plus side heres some freelancer ideas id like to see.
1) Freelancer style sector design features.
2) Bars on stations and planets where you can talk to traders and get hot tips on stuff.
3) Pirate factions unique to certain parts of the universe.
4) Worm holes.
5) Access to existing jumpgates restricted to legal traffic only, the rest use wormholes.
I liked those ideas from freelancer, I found it very emersive.

This signature has been stolen by the well known Teladi Signature Thief X Siggy.

A new rig is in my hands now if only there was time...
id prefer random worm holes. they appear randomly they exit radomly so you dont know where you will end up.
i agree that the bar was a beter visual way of getting missions but the missions where to similar and it got tedious when you pcked up your 4 th mission from the sanme person and the charicter said " you dont know me but."

Though I like all the ideas given with the exception of Unique Weapons (Where is the fun in using this Über-Weapons?) and Trade Lanes (Don´t quit fit into the X-Universe imo and their length of several lightminutes is just too utopical; Wouldn´t mind another form of fast sector travel though)
I voted for the tractor beam. (Remember chrashing your disco at the hangar walls while trying to pick up some hidden crate?
I also like some of the other said ideas like realisitc designed star systems or unique ships.
While thinking about the Trade Lanes I had this idea: Why not include some sort of Cruise Engine like in FL? Some sort of Warp Travel that you can initiate when having reached your top speed, myabe with some cool eye-candy blur effects showing how the space is bended by your ship .

Nothing should be unique to the player unless the X-shuttle makes a valiant return or the player has the ability to research and build new equipment. Everything thats in the X universe should be available to everyone with enough credits.
Tractor beam would be nice so you didn't have to drop shields to pick up containers or spaceflies as I've lost count of the times I've died or taken serious damage when trying to pick up stuff during a dogfight. Yeah I know its my own fault but I just cant help myself

As for unique ships; they should look and sound it too. The cargo hold feature is good, but what's the point of that? "Warning! Cargo bay open, shields are down!" What cargo bay? I can't see any doors. The sounds in Freelancer were superior too. From the Pilot's witty quotes during battle to the sound of the Cruise engines. The latter would also work too, although that would make the Mk1 engine booster obsolete if the cruise engine didn't affect shields or cut out after a while. The Former would be good, as their is no fun in assassination missions if you can't hear the pilots your trying to kill taunt or scream.
