Keith Flint, front man of the Prodigy reportedly found dead.
49. . . . damn

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-ente ... 06456.html

This one feels really significant to me, the Prodigy were pretty formative to me as a teenager in the 90's.
As sad as I was about the loss of Bowie, Prince, MJ, George Michael etc this is the first one that I've felt belonged to MY generation rather than the preceding one.

Edit: Interesting point here. . . . The Prodigy were a band that seems especially important to a fairly narrow age range. Specifically born in the early 80's, teenagers in the 90's and slap bang on the dividing line between GenX and Millennial (technically I'm the latter).
I'm therefore going to officially declare anyone born between 1979-1983 as the "Jilted Generation"

I wasn't a big fan of their music (apart from Firestarter, which is OK) but 49 is no age at all...RIP, Mr. Flint.

[EDIT] Bandmate Liam has confirmed on the band's official Instagram that Keith committed suicide. No confirmation of that yet, but shocking news if so.

Jan-Michael Vincent has passed away aged 74 after suffering cardiac arrest, it's a little bit late as this happened on Feb 10th and it looks like it slipped past most people us included, as I can't find any reference to his passing here.

I used to love airwolf all those years ago, I don't really know much more that the guy did but he will always be remembered as Stringfellow Hawke.

R.I.P. Jan.

I also remember him playing a stuntman opposite Burt Reynolds in "Hooper", but not sure what else he's been in. RIP.

Shane Rimmer, the voice of Scott Tracy in Thunderbirds, has died. Very sad. I remember hearing his distinctive voice in the early James Bond films too.

Oh... darn. :/

Everything I had ever read about his interactions with fans was good.

@Morkonan

Yeah he was a regular at the cons and loved fans (which some who I won't mention) tended to avoid them.

Thanks for fixing the BBC link. I'm a bit shakey at the moment. :D

Um, why would anyone have thought it *was* mouth cancer? Anyway, RIP, Peter, you were note perfect portraying Chewbacca without ever having to say a word.

Just quoting this because it was the last post but.... random story of little import coming up.

There's a chap I know in my local butchers, and I know him because... he works in my local butchers. I've known him for ten years or so. No biggy, I know him by name (George), he knows me by name (RM), he knows the cuts of meat I like etc. And sometimes I see him in one of the local pubs. We're not mates, but there's some friendly acknowledgement, banter about football, rugby, etc.

Anyway, on Wednesday night I had a prospective lodger and her friend come to look at my place, and meet me (do the whole stranger danger thing). It went ok, so I went with her, and her mate, up to the Highstreet, and showed them the local area a bit. We ended up in a nearby local called the Rose and Crown.

George also drinks in the Rose and Crown. And he was sat there with a mechanical Chewbacca head thing doing the whole Chewy "RRRoooooaaaaaRRRRR" thing. So much so fun so whatever (I like Star Wars, but not... that much). A few minutes later George came out of the pub (waiting for his Uber, like all Padawan do) and wandered over. He showed me a bunch of photos on his phone of Star Wars memorabilia. "That's thirty grands worth that wall is" etc.

I'd known he'd had tattooed sleeves for a long time, I'd never really looked at them (why would I?). He was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. His sleeves, on both legs and both arms, were representations of Star Wars characters. Covered in them. Every single last tattoo was Star Wars related.

So I went to the butchers today, partly, if I am honest, because I thought George would be... sad because of Mayhew's death. Nothing I could do about it, but.. a little bit of acknowledgement sometimes goes a long way.

He didin't serve me, but in passing we talked about it. He told me roughly the following:-

Went to a comicon recently where Peter Mayhew appeared.
I (George, not RM) was waiting in line to get some bit of something signed.
The poor man couldn't sign his name, the poor man couldn't sign anything.
A young child walked up, looking for a signature, and this poor, old, enormous, dying, man who couldn't sign his name to anything, was gentle, kind, giving and loving. And tried to sign his name. Failed to do so, but spent ten minutes of his time with this young child being Chewy :).
I can't breathe.

I'm surprised no-one else has posted about Freddie Starr. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-48225576

If you don't know who he was, he was a variety comedian who was unpredictable. You never knew what he would do next.
