Sad about Stan but also what a great life, he lived his work to the end, despite the nasty crap with the attempted con on his money.

I'm not an angler, but John Wilson was such an engaging presenter that I was a regular watcher of his show Go Fishing.

Gone (fishing), but not forgotten.

Rest in peace John.

That's a shame. As an angler I used to like his show until our PBS station dropped it. Heard he was in Thailand. When I was there in the service I flyfished there and locals thought I was whipping the water.

Can't be sad about Stan Lee passing - he's made it to 95 years old, left his mark on the world in a positive way, and had a right old time. Quality - that's what you call a life!

Richard Baker, voice of the first news bulletin broadcast on BBC television has died age 93.
I remember him along with Robert Dougall when I was a kid in the 60's.

I remember Richard Baker presenting the news in my youth--sad to hear he's gone, although I loved the bit in the obituary where it said he would read the news to other residents at his retirement home!

This is one of the most notable deaths that will likely go unnoticed by many people. William Goldman wrote a buttload of AAAA scripts that people loved.

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001279/

Look at that list of work! Holy crap... There isn't likely going to be someone on this forum that hasn't seen one of the movies that Goldman either wrote or co-wrote the script for. And, his script-fix work often went uncredited, too. But, he's "just" a script-writer and nobody but the studios and producers and directors and anyone who's serious about making the movie pays attention to that...

Godspeed, Mr. Goldman. Thanks for all the wonderful tales!

Just realised he wrote "A Bridge Too Far", which means he's responsible for one of the best lines ever:

"Examine him sir. Please. Or I'll blow your f***ing head off."

That whole scene was so unexpected and... awesome!

The big names in that movie... "It's full of stars." Gene Hackman does the worst impression of a Polish officer in history... And, "Monty" is nowhere to be found. Gee, I wonder why? Definitely one of my favorite "war movies."

PS - IIRC, Caan's character didn't reply or either avoided answer the officers question on whether or not he would have actually done it. A very nice touch. :)

His passing makes me sad... His acting credits are pretty extensive, too.

Sadly not unexpected when he went into hospital with pneumonia, given his age, but still a great loss.

George Bush Senior has died:

Not sure what to think about that--was he the last halfway decent Republican president? What do our American friends think of him?

That he was a good president and rest him.

(And he's not GB senior. He's George Herbert Walker Bush and his son was just "Dubyuh") :D

Here is probably the best tribute to him piece to him:

Here is to the memory of George H.W. Bush, and to a time when there still were civility in politic, may that time will come back one day. :(

He was a good man.

One's life couldn't be considered left wanting if it was lived like his. We will miss his principled leadership.

You probably won't recognise the name, but if you've watched the Tour de France with English commentary in the past 30 years, you'd probably recognise the voice Paul Sherwen has died. All my thoughts are coming through in his voice.

One for the UK guys--Paddy Ashdown, former Lib Dem leader (and speaking personally, one of the few politicians I had much time for), has died:
