Argon Prime Equipment Dock destroyed
Is it normal for enemy ships to destroy your equipment base. I had that happen last night. Lost 3 ships in the process. Luckily they were all free ones that I hadn't sold yet. I also had a Xenon destroy 1 of my UTs as well. I have them as foe (i didn't change it myself). Should they be a friend?

Non-plot NPC equipment docks, shipyards, trading stations and Military Outposts (plus Terran/Xenon/Yaki/Pirate equivalents) can indeed be destroyed by their enemies or even by the Player. Those types of station will eventually respawn while the player is OOS though. Pirate Bases other than Anarchy Ports respawn elsewhere. Plot-essential stations cannot be taken below about 93% hull.

Obviously i am a newb. So, where is a good/safe place to dock as a home base for my ships?

Re: Argon Prime Equipment Dock destroyed
Argon Prime is *usually* a pretty safe start location. You were just unlucky I guess.
The problem is that there is no guaranteed safe NPC dock for you. Even if the station itself isn't attacked, a passing NPC patrol fleet can decide to dock at an NPC dock you are using and in doing so kicks your ships out to space where they can be attacked by any passing hostiles.
Perhaps the best policy early on before you get your own stations is to only keep the ships you intend to use and sell off the rest to equip the ones you keep. Then get the ships you have all doing something useful such as trading or protecting static areas. (Don't escort trade ships!)

Re: Argon Prime Equipment Dock destroyed
davidself1001, play a little while before you make big decisions like that. I've been playing many months and game hours and never had that happen.
The HQ in Home of Light is good for a base before you have your own. It sells Transporter and Jump Drives too. Shipyards and HQ have bigger hull ratings and can take more damage. EQ Docks are pretty big, but not as big as those.
I'm guessing that a Paranid Expedition attacked it and destroyed it. There's opportunities for plenty of loot when one of these is happening in the sector you are in. The Paranid and Argon are enemies and send raids to the other's sectors. The Boron and Split are the same. They don't always attack hard. You have to be in the sector for loot to happen. When big fleets go back and forth, there's plenty. All you have to do is pick it up and sell it for $.
One Paranid route is from Paranid Prime through Cloud Southwest, Ore Belt, Home of Light, to Argon Prime. An Argon route is this in reverse.
One lesson: make you decision about a captured or recovered ship ASAP. Sell it or get it into service right away. And there's usually plenty of notice if a station is danger. Then move your ships.
Welcome to AP, davidself1001!

1) Yes, mind you it's just a big storage, without the possibility to install softwares and tunings like the NPC equipment docks are able to.davidself1001 wrote: ↑Sun, 28. Oct 18, 15:48So 1) can i buy my on equipment dock? and 2) will they attack it?
2) Possibly, whereby you could put it into an Unknown sector or simply a sector far off the usual trading or military routes.

Thanks for the feedback.
Re: Argon Prime Equipment Dock destroyed
Like Bill, I've not seen ED in Argon Prime been shot within my meagre 30+ ingame days. (It would be devastating though, I have 100% Fight Marines training there.) I did see very recently Paranid Military in Home of Light demolishing Defense Platforms (which did respawn within minutes, unlike Stations).Bill Huntington wrote: ↑Sun, 28. The Paranid and Argon are enemies and send raids to the other's sectors. The Boron and Split are the same.
The Teladi have no official enemies, like the other four factions.
Xenon and Pirates can sail out for mayhem too, but that is equally rare (except in some areas).
Not even big stocks compared to stocks at Factories.
Some Docks (Trading or Equipment) can host infinite amount of fighters, or even TS/M6-sized ships.

Re: Argon Prime Equipment Dock destroyed
Any station 40km above the ecliptic tends to be safe from hostile patrols OOS. The Goner sector Harmony Of Perpetuity is also very safe. Otherwise your best bet is to dock in sectors with a corporate HQ since those have a large fleet around them.
Re: Argon Prime Equipment Dock destroyed
I've seen Paranid expeditions into Argon space destroy the Corporate HQ there, and Argon expeditions into Paranid Prime take out the Shipyard and Equipment dock. Some TL freighter will eventually show up and place new ones. There is no "truly safe" place, but it's rare that these things happen. A Trade Station is a better bet for storing bailed or spare fighters, since they have unlimited small craft capacity and your ships won't be kicked out. They can still be blown up, with your ships on them.
As pointed out, if you happen to be around at the time when two races battle it out, there are usually Millions of credits worth of valuable weapons and goods floating around for any pilot with room to pick them up. I try to divert a TS to the scene as soon as the shooting starts, if I'm not already following one of the fleets on its way into the sector. A few Navigational Satellites scattered in various sectors (ideally at least 10 km above or below the plane of the existing stations, so they're out of the way of pirates) can allow you to spot fleet movements, as well as keep tabs on prices and stock levels. Sadly, the Paranid tend to use a lot of PSGs on their capital ships, and those tend to quickly wreck EVERYTHING in the general direction of the shot, including any salvageable materials.

All NPC docks jump respawn.
Boron Equipment docks have an internal hanger for TS, TM and M6 ships.
I personally put my Adv. Satellites 30km up.

Re: Argon Prime Equipment Dock destroyed
Sorry, Dr., I can't let that pass. I used to put my Sats at 20km but found I was missing a lot of ship movements. I use 9 km now and have rarely been attacked at that altitude. I get information both above and below the ecliptic. And the trouble I had I was going to get wherever the Sats were.

Re: Argon Prime Equipment Dock destroyed
OOS ships are a lot less aggressive and military patrols when invading sectors look for anything within 30km.
