Wagon Wheels cookies

Post by fiksal » Tue, 21. Aug 18, 16:33

Do you guys remember those? Some 20 yr back?

I've tried something recently named that, and it seems nothing like.

I thought wagon wheels had crunchy cookies + some jam in them. Does my memory deceive me?

If it doesn't, does anyone make anything similar to those? ChocoPies dont count.

Their HQ is next door to me.

So there is the normal kind and then the kind with jam yes. The jam ones are the best.

They're smaller, and to me taste different (but not massively) - but I think that's more to do with my memory than actual change?

There's also wagon wheel tea cakes or something - so be sure to check you get what you think you are :P

Heh, I remember them from about 60 years back. They were then 3d (thrupence in old pre-decimal coinage - just above one decimal penny - and then a big part of a week's pocket money for a typical primary school child). The yellow-beige paper-wrapped Wagon Wheels then were much, much bigger and better tasting than they are now (whatever the Wiki says about that ). :D

These say Choc Coated Marshmallow & Jam Snack. The package is very small. Maybe walmart or some store has them online, etc...

You got bigger.

Also lots of sweets got made smaller over the years, but wagon wheels not so much. The reduction in size they did have means they have a reduced tendency to crumble apart in your hand as soon as you bite into them (yes I still buy them).
They do taste less sweet I think. That might be a result of using less unhealthy ingredients but I could be wrong. There wasn't really any awareness of the dangers of sugar to children's health when they came out.

I think nowadays most companies making biscuits like that do like to hang *reduced amounts of x* on their products.

That ain't no "Wagon Wheel" I ever seen... That's a "Moon Pie!" :)

https://moonpie.com/

Now, all I needs me is a R.C. Cola!

(Having a "Moon Pie and a R.C. Cola" is a deep, deep South thing in the US, maybe a few other parts of the country.)

When I was a kid, a "Wagon Wheel" was a thin'ish cookie with a chocolate pattern drizzled over it like wagon wheel spokes.

I don't think Wagon Wheels were ever crunchy--they were always a fairly soft sort of biscuit/cookie.

If I have learned one thing so far then it is to never interfere when Americans and Brits talk about cookies, cakes, biscuits or anything similar.

Seems to be a really sensitive topic so I am gonna observe and get my non cookie, cake, biscuit based snack ready.

The dare ones you linked don't have the jelly I think. Viva puffs might be close to jelly/marshmellow wagonwheels.

Sadly, I think you are right... I am not sure but I think I tried that one in the red box...

so back to my original question - what is the proper Wagon Wheel cookie/biscuit?

this one? the Australia version?

wiki wrote: In Australia, Wagon Wheels are produced by Arnott's Biscuits.

Raspberry wagonwheels by dare? I wonder if the US has them due to the red food coloring thing? For example they don't have ketchup chips in the US.

Loblaws in Eastern Canada might have them?
