Pc specs to run X4

Post by alistair brady » Sun, 27. Aug 17, 19:32

Hi guys I just wanted to know what pc specs are gonna be required for this game? I'm not sure my old faithful pc will be able to handle it but I'm hopeful. :)

It's way too early to give a sensible answer to this.

My guess is X:R plus 30%, just off the top of my head. Since it seems to be building on X:R, that's probably the minimum you're going to need. It's guesstimation at this point because it is early, but probably not less than that would be my guess.

The only thing we can say on that with certainty at this point is that the graphics adapter must fully support Vulkan.
That doesn't automatically mean that any device will work just because it supports Vulkan, but it for sure will not work if it doesn't support it.

Here's a quick reference sheet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_API#Compatibility

Yes it dose. Anything from the last few years should support it in some form.

If you follow the link I posted, you'll see that the GTX 10xx series is marked as supported.
Going straight to the source, here's a document from Nvidia listing every gfx chip that has Vulkan support: https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

And just to repeat: while Vulkan support is a requirement, it is not a guarantee that the gfx card is fast enough!

Do not go out and buy new hardware just based on this information alone. Once we have more sensible information to share on system requirements, it will be made public. It's just too early to say anything definitive at this point.

I wonder which team will be favored more by X4, Reds or Blues?
Ryzens or Intel' 7th generation? AMD RX or Nvidia 1000 series GF?

Well... Vulkan changes things. Not so much compared to current/future DX, but definitely over what's in XR.

Also, people who have windows 7/8.1 should be able to play.

So, wait. X:R isn't Vulkan?
It's pretty heavy tho, I don't think anyone can run it playable at 1080p without having GFX supporting Vulkan...?

Just read up on Vulkan a bit and it's welcome change, if so.

Classic XR doesn't use Vulkan. XRVR Edition does use Vulkan.

Personally I hope it will run better than Rebirth, which was notorious for performance problems early on, and judging by the updated demo still hasn't really been running that well.

Well the last big update to X:R boosted FPS for me by about 40%. Don't know what they did, but something made a HUGE difference.

I think, and i say think because i don't know what you are like with buying a new computer. I think that you would have another computer in 3 years time.

Game is going to be released next year from what i heard, better save some pennies. But it will be the same specs as Rebirth as the engine they are using is the Rebirth Engine, so expect the same graphic quality.

Yay, my 750Ti is technically supported! Though at this point I'd probably need more computer to plug anything new into. :P

Definitely going to be along the same lines as the requirements for XRVR since that provided the "working example" for them switching to Vulcan, and X4 will probably be very similar performance wise. It will of course use totally different assets and will be released in at least a year's time so performance requirements are likely to be a little higher if anything.
