Release notes for the X3AP beta are available in the Public Beta testing forum. Elaborations of some of the points are available here and here.

Fixes for the Commodity Logistics Software are not part of the update, and as the CLS is not part of the main game, CLS fixes wouldn't be provided through a update for the main game anyhow.

I'm a little confused, are you gating the improvements made to the economy and graphics for X-Rebirth VR behind a VR headset?

Awesome news!

Can't wait for X:R VR!

X4! :) :o

A little worried about X4.........Star Citizen has just about everything covered (planets/walking/FPS...etc...!).....and Elite:Dangerous will soon....not to mention the other upcoming space games.


I would do my best to distance X4 from these titles!

I suggest:

No planets at all.
No walking.(You could have moons/asteroids with tunnels/caves to save on developing massive man made structure)


Make X4 a colony in Kuiper belt or the asteroid belt...maybe flesh out a minor moon Ceres(loaded with bases/bio domes and trading posts). Concentrate all resources into making a believable system of small moons and asteroids. A tight and focused universe.

No faster than light travel! Limit speeds to 1000 m/s. If you want to get somewhere you travel real time......Give players the opportunity to travel 15-30 hours to the nearest moon/asteroid/space station. 'X'ploring the distances between destinations.

The OP mentions a special universe and economy adjusted for the VR experience. Changes may be necessary due to restrictions regarding how long you can play with a VR headset comfortably (the adjusted pace was mentioned in the OP too). Or may even be bound to interface adjustments. Changes, however, don't necessarily mean improvements in every situation. Time, for instance, is an important balancing factor in every game. If you reduce time requirements for a faster pace, you may also end up with a smaller feeling of achievement and change the balancing of rewards for other tasks, and in the end a smaller playing time.

As for the new graphics engine, it clearly says that the VR Edition will be the first Egosoft title using it, not the only one.

While I would love to see a focus on few but detailed systems too, from the reactions to the X Rebirth universe I doubt many others players would. Most people seem to be only interested in greater amounts of everything, including sectors. I cannot count how many times I read the comparison in the past years that the X3 universe would be so much better, because it has "way more sectors/systems", while the different universe designs were completely ignored.

Just have to get this out in this thread. Like my last post, nice to see more is coming, but could we please get some things to x-rebirth?

-Another way to get them skill learning seminars, done that chatty thingy several hundreds times (not counting would make me very sad). If those seminars are the only way to "train" your workers, they must drop from other sources.

-IF you make more ships (not needed but if the AI gets a good boost) I rather see more L-size ships for combat. Like the Balor fast and agil, with a pourpose. Balor with its missiles good at wacking big targets/sucks against small ones. It should get a brother that sucks at big targets/have low Capital shielding but good (mk2 and mk3) componentshields and lots of HIT/MA's. Let the XL-ships be the heavy monsters they are with allaround guns.

-Again those skills, some more detail about would be very welcome in the pedia.

Does later in 2017 mean
1. Somewhere between February and November/December of 2017
2. Later in 2017 as in Oct/Nov/Dec

Will X Rebirth VR launch take precedence over X4....?
Had to include "launch" otherwise might get the vague response of them both being equally worked on.....
Would not like to see the letters S.O.O.N in any any response :)

If we had more precise dates to give you then we'd have given them in the original announcement. The word "later" just reinforces what it says earlier in the sentence, namely that you will need to be patient. Don't expect things to happen too early in the year, as we still have a fair bit of work to do.

In terms of what comes first on the timeline, X Rebirth VR edition is definitely planned to reach the stage where we can give some form of public access to it before X4 does, but the word "precedence" would perhaps be misleading. We are actively working on both projects.

I agree wholeheartedly with both of the above. The first would be a much-needed reduction to tedium.

The second would make total sense - there ought to be more mid-range specialists (and also generalists), with the monsters at the top representing the tip of the pyramid.

Omicron Lyrae's distribution of ships, in particular, makes little sense - lore-wise, the OL shipyards have always been an important entity - in X2 and X3R there were several BBS "news items" regarding it, and it's mentioned in encyclopedia entries in TC/AP. Now, after the events leading up to Rebirth, OL has become even more advanced and taken a divergent development path. I can't believe that they would be so short-sighted as to think that "bigger is better" in all circumstances - and yet, there are no L-sized freighters in OL (you can use mining ships for bulk and liquid, but are shit outta luck for the all-important energy and container cargo classes), and L-sized fighting ships, with only 2 huge models available (and arguably the Lyramekron is something of a hybrid - officially a freighter but hits like a destroyer - and handles like an XXL!)

Oh, if you haven't played it in some time, then I would say that it may well be worth your while to give it a new spin - with each new update, I've gotten more and more enjoyment out of it. I would certainly say that not only is it now "playable", but it's actually pretty good (DISCLAIMER: of course, tastes differ, so who knows...)

Great to hear about X4. Crossing my fingers for a scripting engine!

The in-game editor in X provided a unique programming challenge, when being attacked by pirates while writing a script. The script could not be saved until it compiled, and so I lost my work a few times.

For years the in-game editor was sufficient for my purposes in building a library of simple helper scripts. However an external editor was really the only way to produce Smart Turrets and OK Traders.

I'll be happy enough editing scripts only externally though. It'd be useful to have a way to run them in-game, for simple scripts (moar creditss!) that have no UI. Debugging support would still be handy.

There hasn't been an announcement yet. There's also a new version of it being prepared by Egosoft that hasn't been tested yet.

I'd love if they would start to post X4 screenshots or mystery shots. when X-Rebirth was anounced until the release wa had only a handful of screenshots.

@ mr.WHO: IIRC a player volunteer forum official Iifrit Tambuur-san started posting regular Rebirth teaser screenshots with Egosoft's permission and support.

When certain users started making rather unkind demands and criticisms of his efforts, he rather lost interest in doing it. I am not at all implying that we are at that stage with the next game yet, but hopefully we can all learn from Iifrit's experience.
