It is very hard to make friends with Uguras Armaments, because they are secret pirates and gunrunners, who will kill and loot any defensless ship they can find, even your's. 8-}

In my case I came across a Xenon capital ship attacking one of the Uguras Armaments stations, which was good news since my standings with UA are -19.zidder wrote:Enemy activity is very rare in Uguras Armaments zones.
First I took down the Xenon fighters and proceded with the capital ship.
After clearing all Xenon from the UA station I was surprised to see that standings were still at -19.
It seems to be that the range of the UA stations is quite small. Enemies have to be REALLY close to influence your standings when you blow them up.
Yesterday I took out a K plus fighter wing that was attacking a CAR den and my rep went from -16 to -16 which surprised me, as a few days ago I went from -21 to -16 by killing a few M's attacking the same station. You could be right about the short range thing.
Of course I then proceeded to blow my UA rep by "borrowing" a Phoenix - sometimes you just cant help yourself...

You could always hunt around TU stations for 'shady' mission icons (skulls & lightbulbs, occasionally briefcases); these are frequently offered by UA & CAR factions..

Taking Patrol missions at friendly stations can spawn hostiles in zones with hostile stations.
Regarding the "must-have ship" there's another way to get them:

They are one of capital ships that may be the target or escort of the target for assassination missions. Such ships have a generic pirate faction so no rep loss with Teladi factions.
