You could add a very very very fast XL warship (at least 120 m/s please), lightly armored, bulky (turning slowly like a brick), with weak anti-fighter protection (six HIT/MA turrets on top and six on bottom), and a drone storage of only 20 units.
With a few Plasma jet turrets on sides (five turrets on each side?), and some in front (four maybe). Missiles = no thanks.
Place the landing pad in front, so I can have a good view.

Sorry if this has been asked/answered, I skimmed through the pages but couldn't see anything regarding it. Are we going to see any release of any official model exporter any time soon? Being a modeller myself I would love to have the ability to collaborate with, or even make my own ships, station parts, etc.
All I have been able to find so far is one or two people who have managed to hack and manipulate a few pieces here and there to make something.

@Lord Hayden: Sadly an exporter is currently not possible to realize without a big amount of work as you would need a clone of our database to make the ships work in the game. There is a fan made Ex/importer in the modding forums for simple things. Setting ships up is then a huge work via XML editing for you

The Canteran Ship is now finished asset wise. I gave it a bit more agressive Paintsceme as i do not like the grey dull ships we often have
I will create a second version of this ship for gas mining just in a different colour.
I hope you like it

Thanks lordpazuzu!
Here is the gas mining ship. Slightly different setup and of course different colour.

Oh my god!
Please, be my Normandy!
Great job. Is there a frigate variant? The Styrvoks also have a frigate variant (Stromvok) so this one piece of wonder should have a frigate variant aswell. With big lasers and insane speed.

super beauty!
Keep it up lino! I really like the new look, not only the shape of the whole ship, the new colors and theme.
@florianlt
Thanks a lot for your scientific explanation about how the station should rotate to have gravity like ours.
I always thought that rotating was just sci-fi effect and had no real-life correlation, proves my ignorance on the matter.
So NASA could really send people to space and have a normal life (i read that in space we lose a lot of muscle and calcium without gravity) if they had a ship with a rotating ring, I wonder why they don't.

We are currently working on our engine and improving lots of things.
One part is the visual representation regarding how our surfaces react to light.
Markus wrote new shaders, the lovely buzzword "PBR (physically based rendering)" floats around the room.
In the end its just another better way for me, as an artist, to define which material the surface should be.
I then created new textures to control the new shader.
How good it reflects light, how rough a reflection of light is and if it is a metallic or a non metallic reflection.
Enough talking, some stuff to look at. Left handside old shader and on the right the new shader. Big note: This is a work in progress and we will improve the visual fidelity in the future.
The model is a piece of an asset from the teladi outpost.

You should see how much better the asset is integrated into the scene is now. It doesnt feel like its just pasted on top of the background, it interacts better with it.
In the dent in the front you can also see the different values for the reflection. A very metallic and smooth reflection versus the rough less metallic sufrace of the hullparts.

It's all great stuff, but might one ask, if support for X-Rebirth is starting to wind down but the game engine that Ego created for it will continue to be used for any new games you create can we be assured that any improvements to said engine will be applied to XR for the life of the engine?

Ever since man first left his cave and met a stranger with a different language and a new way of looking at things, the human race has had a dream, to kill him so we don't have to learn his language or his new way of looking at things!!! - Zap Brannigan

For those who have not heard of PBR (See here).
Nice bit of info linolafett
Is this PBR part of the changes required to get things working as desired for an Egosoft version of the Capital Ship Bridges? I seem to recall you mentioning in another thread there were some lighting/shader issues with the renderer implementation previously.

It's even more beautiful and all, but, it doesn't have negative impact on performance... Right?linolafett wrote: Enough talking, some stuff to look at. Ooh, pretties.
Does this mean in the next patch there will be "Legacy shader" and "Legacy legacy shader" options?

I hate to admit it, but this came to mind when I first saw the pictures, too. I know it's a lot easier and exciting to show tangible, visual improvements to the game. But can we get any word on performance optimizations?Earth Ultimatum IV. wrote:It's even more beautiful and all, but, it doesn't have negative impact on performance... Right?

• Improved performance and responsiveness of UI.
• Several small performance and memory optimisations.
among other things
