Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered - Solved

I have had this problem in Gemstone manufacture, and through most of the OL sectors where the screen would freeze, go blank, and then show the X Rebirth loading screen, and also show a message on the taskbar; "Display driver amdkmdap has stopped responding and has successfully recovered". If this occurred more than 5 times in 1 minute the program would crash completely (part of a windows vista failsafe). I have tried numerous fixes for this and have found the solution.

The problem turned out to be caused by dodgy Codec's installed by Google Chrome. Uninstalling chrome, and then installing a new codec pack (K-Lite codec pack) seems to be the solution to this problem.

Good to hear but also quite strange as X Rebirth is not anywhere near as sensitive to codec issues as the older DirectShow/DirectSound X3 games were.
