Fedhelm or Sequana?
Based on the description of the Fedhelm and the Sequana, the Fedhelm is used to mine any type of ore and the Sequana is used to mine ice.
However....both of the ships can store bulk wares, so does it really matter if it's ore or ice I mine?
I'm asking, because the Sequana can store double the ammount of drones (300 instead of 150) and has 2 mining lasers instead of 1.
So can I mine ore with the Sequana? Or can I only give the command to mine ice with it?
Because if I can actually mine ore with the Sequana, then what's the use of a Fedhelm really, when even the price of the two ships is the same?

Where the heck do you sell the stuff? Granted, I'm only partially through the campaign right now, but every place I know of that accepts bulk wares is PMC, and thus ridiculously hostile.werewolves? wrote:Sequana. Can mine any mineral. and its cooler. I've found you don't need anymore than 40-50 surface miner drones.
On my miners my normal loadout is 20 Cargo, 20 Construction, 40 scoop or surface depending on gas or mineral..

If you are in the storyline and you don't have access to Omycron Lyrae yet, then you really can't sell it, because the only one in need of it is indeed Plutarch.Where the heck do you sell the stuff?
Then there's really no reason to ever buy a Fedhelm? Wonder what the big idea of Egosoft was, to make a ship for the same price that can do the same things, but only better.Sequana. Can mine any mineral.

Blast and damnation.Nexuscrawler wrote:If you are in the storyline and you don't have access to Omycron Lyrae yet, then you really can't sell it, because the only one in need of it is indeed Plutarch.Where the heck do you sell the stuff?
The thing is though, not everyone chooses to buy (or can afford to buy) new ships. While the Fedhelm may be inferior across the board, NPCs still use it, and players who board will still acquire them. (Maybe one day we'll see the second hand ship sale missions again too?) I don't mind having several ships with overlapping capacity; it makes the game feel more diverse and immersive to me.Nexuscrawler wrote:Then there's really no reason to ever buy a Fedhelm? That being said, I would like it if the Fedhelm got a buffed into an ore specialist. Buffed to the point where it could be desirable over the Sequana, OR a noticeable nerf in price to account for its flaws.
Someone please make a transaction history mod. Please. (I'm begging you.)

Ledda Industrial buys loads of ice.
Sequanna all the way! It has two mining lasers, and massive style factor.
Very reliable.
Do the mining turrets actually do anything now, or are they still waiting to be implemented?

Not sure, they always worked for me.Snafu_X3 wrote:Do the mining turrets actually do anything now, or are they still waiting to be implemented?
Ships used mining turrets to shoot asteroids when they had mining orders.
Sequanna has two mining turrets (Fedhelm just one terribly placed turret) so it works great.
i have seen them in action in the GC Demo already.. and that was iirc October last year - so what do you mean with "still waiting to be implemented"?
if not stated otherwise everything i post is licensed under WTFPL

I shoulld have saiid something like 'minning bonus still waiting to be implemented', maybeUniTrader wrote:i have seen them in action in the GC Demo already.. and that was iirc October last year - so what do you mean with "still waiting to be implemented"?
The old capships review thread I took the info from mentioned something about a mining bonus for the ships with mining turrets, & I hadn't noticed the turrets doing anything in my pre-3.0 saves, so I guess I conflated the two ideas. My mistake, & apologies for the confusion

Way back from XR launch last year, someone has made a YouTube showing that specialized ships have a bonus over non-specialized one:Snafu_X3 wrote:I shoulld have saiid something like 'minning bonus still waiting to be implemented', maybeUniTrader wrote:i have seen them in action in the GC Demo already.. and that was iirc October last year - so what do you mean with "still waiting to be implemented"?

- Feldhem are better at mining asteroids (Ore, Silicon, Nvidium, Crystal), except ice.
- Sequana are best for mining ice
- Midir are best for mining Plasma and Ion
- Bohoan (sp) are best for Hydrogen. (Soz not at home to lookup the name).
- Skaldis are better than ships with no Mining turrets, but inferior to the above in their specialties.
- If memory serves me, Tituriel also have mining turrets, but has a better defense than Skaldis. They are slow like molasses, however, compared to the Skaldis, but win in the category of cargo hold.
Hope this helps,
Very useful; I hadn't known about that!

It would really help if those ship-boni would be clearly pointed out ingame somewhere. In numbers, not as a description open for interpretation. You never know if those actually mean something.
Oh well, now I've already sold all my Fedhelms for Sequanas. >.<

Hi gang. Can anyone tell me how to tell what yields of what type of ore any particular asteroid has in it? In the versions I played before (pre v 2.0), I could just fly up to an asteroid, and if I was close enough, the info would show up on my HUD, but now that I'm playing v 3.0, it seems that information is no longer so obvious. Is it a bug, or am I missing something?
Ayn Rand was correct.
It still does that IME; you may need to fly a bit closer..

Weird. I've flown so close to several asteroids that I've bumped into them and no dice. Nothing shows on my mini-map except for the word "asteroid". I've even tried swapping out all of the cockpit configurations in case that was it, but nothing seems to work. Maybe I'm just missing something...Snafu_X3 wrote:It still does that IME; you may need to fly a bit closer..
