A Xenon P. The stuff of nightmares. Easily the most feared Corvette ever seen. And here it was. And there was nothing between it and those civilians unless I could stop it.

"Gizmo give me a sitrep on the P."

"Aye boss, The P is attacking wheat farm alpha along with 3 N fighers." That much I can see, get to the good part already "There is no military defences within intercept range at this time." That's it? That is all the info Gizmo has?

"Is there anything else you can tell me? Shield strength? Weapons?"

"Negitave boss, all that is classified level 8 security clearance." Frank! Why would they classify such important information? Frank it I needed a way to test us anyhow.

"Prime to all Dragons. Form on me prepare to engage a Xenon Corvette." I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do, I wasn't even sure if we could hurt the toaster, but I did know that if I didn't do anything the men and women on that station were going to be history and THAT was not something I could have on my head.

"Red wing we got your back." Frankie replied. Figures he was up to a good fight, he was always up to a good fight. I think he would go head to head with a the Argon One if I let him.

"Blew Wing, we are ready for a fight." And of course Kar'l wouldn't even blink an eye at such a challenge. I was 90% sure that both of my wing leaders were suicidal, but then on the other hand they were just following me...

The P didn't even notice as we approached, and the approach felt like it took forever. I had been 30km out when the Station had broadcast it's SOS. Time dragged as I watched the range finder count down. 24km... 20km... 19km... 18km... 17km...

"Wing leaders, I am going to assault the P. I want your wings to engage and destroy the escorts and then join me to bring down the P. On my ma...." I never finished my sentence as Frankies voice yelled over the radio.

"Here's Frankie!!!!" His ship shooting out ahead of the rest of the squadren.

"Frankie! Frankie, come in Frankie. Can you hear me?" I asked to no reply

"Wil'hem the spirit of blood lust has him. Let his fathers be praised that such a noble spirit has graced him." Shit this was not the time for split religiuos mumbo jumbo.

"Blue two and three. I need you to support Blue one make sure he doesn't get himself killed." Two affermitives followed as the other two ships in blue wing accelerated to try and catch Frankie. Not that they had much of a chance he was already 3km a head of them and his ship's topspeed was 100k better than any other ship I had.

The inhabitants of the Station must have gotten worried about the attack. A Argon Energy Transport undocked in an attempt to abandon the station and escape from the Xenon.

SHIT! I thought as the Xenon P turned it's main guns to bear on the transport. To the transports credit its shield held up under the first several volleys from the P as it's rear guns returned fire ineffectivly. But it still was not good enough. I wanted to scream as I raced toward the transport praying that it's shileds held out long enough for me to interced and save it. But that was not to be the case. With only 5km left to go the hull and shields of the transport bucked and the Xenon blasted the transport apart.

"Damn it!" I could feel the blood surging into my eyes, white hot rage filling my soul. The P turned and resumed its attack on the station. 4km... 3.5km...

<Target in firing range>

My ship shuttered as a HEPT bolt impacted my shields from the P. In return I let loose, PAC fire rippling across the shields of P. I rolled my ship as I strafed back and forth trying to avoid fire from the Ps turrets while pouring PAC fire in return. All in all I was giving better then I was taking but unless I got some support the table would turn once my shields failed. The P tried as hard as it could trying to bring me in range of it forward guns, but with a little effort I was able to keep on it's tail. Luckily my escorts were making short work of the Ns.

"N neutralized, retargeting." Kar'l said after vaporizing the xenon. Two more to go and then I get back up.

"Yeehawww!! Die Xenon, DIE!!" I guess that meant Frankie had killed his mark too. I glanced at my shields and was suprised to see that they were still charged to 100%, guess my dodging wasn't to bad after all. The Xenon's shields were down to 80% but then it pulled far enough away from me to turn and come at me head long. Despite my best efforts to strafe it landed multiple hits with it's main cannons, though I hit back with a vengeance. The exchange left my shields at 80% and it's shields at 72% while i managed to slide my ship back into my comfort zone. Am I really soloing a P? My luck with dodging seemed to be out though, as the Hepts from the P kept leaving their mark on my shields. Slowly our shields fell almost in sink, 70%, 65%, 60%, 55%. Our numbers kept falling in perfect harmony as we exchanged fire while desperatly trying to find advantage over one another. I felt proud about how well I was doing so far but a little voice inside my head told me that if it kept going this way the tables would turn when we got into the hull.

"BOOM, goes the teraformer!" Frankie yelled as the last N fireballed.

"Finally!" I smiled as the blue swords of light began to stab at the P from all directions as both of my wings of escorts turn to attack the Xenon corvette. Now having to worry about fire coming from seemingly every where the Hepts fire at me started missing more then it was hitting, which could not be said about my pilots. The Xenon's shields fell to 50% as mine recharged to 60%. Then it's shields fell to 40%... 30%... 20% nothing the Xenon did was good enough. Frankie hooped and hollared each time he strafed the Corvette, Kar'l roared in joy as he laid down fire, and I just smiled. 10%... 5%.. finally the shields collapsed and our fire started having some real effect. The hull seemed to cave in as blast after blast tore away at it. Then, it's reacter having had enough, the tail end of the corvette vanished in a flash of light, vaperizing everything that was left.

I slumped down in my seat, letting the throttle go and bringing the ship to a stop. Adrenaline coursed through my veins as my heart pumped one hundred miles a minute. In the end the Xenon had reduced my shields to 36% and my weapons capacitor was completely dry. But we did it.

"Prime to all dragons. Good work, well done."

"SHHHIIT, we need to do that more often!" Fankie shot back

"Today we have made our ancister's proud." Kar'l inserted with pride

"Allright, allright, allright" I said as the other pilots started adding their own bit to the mix. "Both of you give me a status report."

"Blue wing, nooooo daaamage."

"Red wing, is unscathed."

Slowly I felt the adrinaline leaving my system and mental clearity returning. Checking my own ship I found my shields were mostly back in one piece, and my weapon energy was back to full.

"Gizmo, pull up the sector map, tell me how many more Xenon we have to deal with."

"Aye boss" Gizmo replied pulling the sector map up to show several groups of fighter still harasing the sector.

"Ok boys and girls form on me we still have work to do..."

The next day found me nursing a hangover in the hotel room I had rented after the battle the day before. After the fight we had all docked up to celebrate and one thing led to another....

A knock at the door anounced the visitor I had been expecting. Pressing the button to unlock it I let Frankie into the room shuting the door behind him. As always Frankie looked pristine, uniform freshly cleaned and ironed, he stood at a relaxed attention with a wide grin on his face. I felt like crap just looking at him.

"You wanted to see me sir?" He asked as I hobbled my way across the room and set down in a chair facing him.

"Yea Frankie I did. What was that bull out there yestorday? Leaving the rest of the squadran behind so you could get the first shot at the corvette? You could have gotten yourself killed! And even worse you left your wingmen behind and out of formation. You left them exposed while you raced off for your own glory. You could have gotten us allkilled." Each time I spoke Frankie flinched like he had been slapped. He still stood at attention but the grin was replace with a look of confliction.

"I.. I.. I'm sorry sir. I just get overwhelmed some times and I lose control. I know what I should be doing, I know what I am doing, but I can't help but... but... well sire i don't know how to describe it."

"Your a maverick, Frankie. And if you don't clean up your act and start setting an example for the rest of the pilots your going to get someone killed." I almost felt sorry for yelling at Frankie, he was a superb pilot with far more kills then any other pilot besides myself, but this kind of irresposible behaviour had to be stopped in it's tracks. "Now get on out of here. Pass the word to the other pilots, two weeks paid leave for their performance yestorday. Everyone meets back at the office in Orebelt in two weeks at 0600 sharp."

"Yessir!" Frankie replied saluting sharply before leaving the room. God that kid was such an enigma, as formal as you could be until the moment he got into a fire fight and then he just... changed... But he was really fraking effective.

"Did you have to be so hard on him, Boss?" Gizmo sprung to life from my wrist.

"I don't know. but it scares me when he does shit like that."

"But you have to admit he does get the job done."

"yes but its dangerous. Oh I had some questions for you."

"Sure boss, whats up?"

"Yestorday got me thinking. You know i have a long standing ban on missiles because they cost so much. But what if we made them? I mean we have some money in the bank, and several frieghters just sitting around. I know i had told you to refit them as traders, but i am thinking that we could use one to supply a factory where we could make missiles that we could then use or sell depending on the situation."

"That's not a bad idea Boss. What kind of missiles do you want to make?"

"I don't know. I am not a missile expert, but what is it that we keep seeing the Military use with such efficancy?"

"The missiles you used to complain about the most were wasps. The ones you called evil spirals of death. Always stealing your kills away."

"Lets start there, if they are that good then they should do perfect for us."

---

Now anyone with half a brain would have bought a couple of wasp missiles first, tried them out second, and then they would have built a factory if they liked them. Today I did not have half a brain. Since the dragons were on leave i was free to make my way down to cloudbase southeast where I purchased a wasp missile factory and had a local TL haul it over to orebelt and deploy it several KM between the gate and the solar plants. Then I fetched the Murcury that Gizmo had purchased used sometime ago but had not had the money to outfit yet. Flying over to the solar plant i purchased a full load of energy cells and then headed back to the factory, which is where I found the first problem. There was no one in the factory to unload it. Really I don't know how i didn't see this coming. What did I expect the factory to run itself? Did i think that since Gizmo was so good at running everything else he would be able to run the factories all by himself to?

"Gizmo why didn't you tell me that this factory was going to need workers."

"Well Boss, I figured you knew. It seems pretty obvious. However if i need to point out ever little detail let me start with this. The factory is going to need workers."

"Smartass." I shotback. I left the frieghter docked at the station and boarded my Nova and headed to the free trade station.

---

"You bought a station and didn't realise it would need workers!?!" Elaine asked laughing at me. "You can be really naive at times."

Elaine was pouring me a cup of tea as we sat down at the kitchen table. Valse was in bed already. When I had first arrived he had just gotten home from school and he had drilled me on everything I had done on the patrol. I had made a grand story of the battle with the Xenon and their evil corvette. He ate my story up like it was his last supper, insisting on more and more detail. Finally Elaine had saved me and sent him off to do his homework. Secretly though, I had loved it.

"I don't know what I was thinking." I said sipping on the tea, one thing I definatly loved about Elaine was her tea. Just like moma used to make it. "Now i have this huge investment and no one to run it. I don't even know where to start looking for workers."

"Look around you. Half of this station is un-employed and the other half is under-employed. And it's not because they are lasy or drunks or druggies. Well at least most of them aren't. No they are there because there just is not enough work. If you offer any pay check at all they will come to you. The problem will be finding someone to run the place. I am assuming that if you are too good to settle down here, then you are too good to settle down there?" her words stung slightly but there was truth in them. "Thats what I thought. You will need a station manager and someone you can trust. Someone who has experience in this kind of thing. And I know just the person for the job."

Turns out she was right. She did know the right person for the job, and that person was Miles Angle. Miles was a short balding argonian who had spent his entire life in factories. He had worked his way up from the very bottom all the way up to assistant manager. And then the station he had worked for got blown up durring the war with the Paranoid. Luckily he ordered the station evacuated and had managed to get everyone off the station safely. Unforchantly his boss fired him for not defending the station.... from a paranoid battle group... with no actual way to defend the station at all. I even checked on his story and had some high ranking manager rant at me for five minutes about how he had let the station be destroyed. Well some people are just dumbasses. Rule 1: Don't put valuable stations on the front line of a war and expect them to stay there. In the end I found that I really liked this Miles. He was very straight forward and told me just what to expect. So I hired him. And he hired me a workforce.

Now that that was done i went back to the station to find hundreds of people waiting to get to work.... first order of buisness unload the frieghter. I spent the next couple of days personally ferrying supplies to the station and establishing contacts in the local market. It was boring, but in the end I toured my factory and was suprised at how well everything looked. All shiny and new with cleanly uniformed workers starting to make my very first batch of missiles. I nearly giggled for joy as the first batch of missiles left the line and were loaded onto my waiting ship.

Now then its time to go test these bad boys out. :D

(1) Here is a video of the actual fight. This was really a crazy battle. I had accepted a xenon patrol from Cloudbase southeast that wound me up there, then accepted a patrol for that sector, as well as several SOS mission that all ended up being Xenon. The P came from one of the SOS missions.

I think your doing just fine, the story is starting to take shape around your characters and I would suggest letting the dice roll and see where that takes you.

As to going back to reedit unless you have made a glaring error I would let it be your readers are no doubt keeping abreast of the story and are unlikely to re-read it.

I also find it a pain to go back and edit as I always get an urge to tweak things which can be a bad thing storyline wise.

I thumbed the missile release, firing a swarm of wasp missiles into the void. I watched the spiral of death getting smaller with a since of wonder. I wasn't used to being the one who brought down the inescapable death. Was it wasteful firing missiles off into the cosmos? Yeah, yeah it was. Did it feel good? Hell yeah it did.

"Hawwh, hawwh, hawwh," Kar'l's laughing roar echoed over the radio, "losing control of your missiles Wil'helm?"

I was leading a patrol through some southern Argonian sectors, we were hoping for some action but so far it had all been quiet. Over the past couple of weeks while I had been working on getting the wasp factory up and running, Kar'l and Frankie had been hard at work. In my absence(after a brief vacation) they had been picking up local defence contracts and hiring new pilots. It seems that a friendly compitition had broken out between the pilots that Kar'l and Frankie had recruited. Frankie was now leading 4-m4s the "Blue Dragons" (a natural bridge for the "Blue" wing of the "Dragons." Dont know why it never occured to me), all of whom flew faster lightly shielded fighters; while Kar'l was now flying a Pirate Penatron and leading 3-m4s, the "Red Dragons", who flew slower heavier shielded fighters. It was kinda wierd I had always been told that the Split liked speed over shielding. I'll have to make a note to ask Kar'l about that some time.

"That's a Negitave. I just wanted to see what it looked lit."

"It is a pretty sight, is it not? Have you never seen it before?"

"Yeah, I have, but never from my own ship. I have seen plenty of them steal kills from me though."

Our patrol lead us from cloudbase southeast through ore belt and cloudbase southwest, still with no enemies to find. On a whim I decided to check out Empire mines and see if there was anything there. I didn't normally deal with the paranoid, something about them just didn't feel right. Maybe it was their "I know everything because I am holy" additude.

No sooner then I crossed the envent horrison then my radio came to life. "HELP! Oh holy mercy we need aid!" a quick scan of the system found the source of the distress signal, a small ore minning platform in the northeastern part of the sector, where several Xenon fighters were. One LX, a L, two Ms, and a handful of Ns were hardly what I would panic over but they were exactly what I wanted to test my new missiles.

"The McCloud to all dragons, standfast on my six. We are going to preform a weapons test and then mop up the rest." Locking-on to the LX I brought my missiles online. I let loose two quick volleys and then watched to see what happened.the two spirals of death circled each other as they made their way across the sector and then slammed into the LX who was too slow to evade even a single warhead. When the dust settled my jaw dropped. There amist all of the depris from the missiles the LX sat with it's shield still at 84%.

"Gizmo, what happened? Did the missiles not work?"

"Well boss, its simple. You fired 2 volleys of 8-2mj warheads at the LX who has 100mj of shielding."

"But the missiles.... they are suppose to be effective."

"Wasps are designed to kill light and medium fighters who have less than 10mj of armor, shield and hull together. LX is one of the heaviest fighters around." I felt like the wind had been taken out of my bubble. See it was really the heavy fighters I was hoping to do damage to. Over time I hd noticed that the dragons could wipe any m5 or m4 that they faced. And while they always managed to get the kill gainst the heavier fighters many of times they would take damage in the process. i was hoping that by adding a cheap missile into the mix I could decrease the chance that any of my fighters came back in a body bag. However I still was not gettig paid very much for the missions we ran so I didn't want to get any missiles that were going to break the bank. The wasp had seemed like a bargain concidering that by micromanaging where I bought the resources at I could get the cost per missile down to 10k.(1)

I mopped up the rest of the Xenons with the help of the dragons. I tested another 2 volleys of wasps against a M with devestating results. But I still was not happy and once the threat was eliminted I ordered the Dragons to keep looking for missions while I headed back to my missile complex. On my way there I flipped through listing of missiles factories available for purchase. One caught my eye and made me perk up. Typhoon missiles with a payload of 30mj per warhead and 8 warhead per missile for a total of 240mj worth of damage. One of those could tear even that heavy LX apart! I quickly flew over to the shipyard in cloudbase southeast and hired a TL to add a typhoon factory to my already existing wasp factory. I did some math about the cost of the missiles and found that each one would cost me 40k to produce where as they were selling for 66k at the EQ.(2)

It didn't take more then a day for the station to be built, and then another for Miles to find and hire the workers needed to run it. In the mean time I spent some time at home playing with Valse and doing the paper work needed to run my company. The Dragons were carving out quite a name for themselves and as such I was never short of request for assistance or patrols. It kept them busy and the money rolling in. A couple of days past before Miles mmessaged me telling me that the first batch of Typhoon Missiles were ready.

Valse had never been to the Missile complex and he was begging me to see what was so important about it. So after a short trip we I docked. As usual valse was the first one through the hatch and was into the the station before I could even get unbuckled. I quickly followed him and found him staring hard at something Miles was holding out to him.

"...and this is a Nova just like you dad flies." I tripped over my own feet nearly falling to the tarmat. Dad? When did I become a dad? Though I wasn't really sure what I was to Valse... Guardian? Proctector? Savior? All of those terms didn't fit quite right. As I got closer I could see Miles handing over several ships to Valse. One was a Nova just like mine, another a buster, and a third was a Xenon L. Valse stared hard at the toys for a couple of seconds.

"THANKYOU!" He shouted all of a sudden grabbing the nova and the L. He held them up one in each hand and then proceded to run around the docking bay fighting a mock battle.

"PewPewPew! I have you now!"

Me and miles just watched him play for several minutes before Miles broke the silence.

"Well I got the first batch of 5 done... But what do you want to do with them?"

"Arm them to my Nova. I dumbed some empty crates on the way here and I figure I'll test them and give the kid a show at the same time."

"Well sir that's just the thing. Typhoons are corvette class missiles. Your Nova can't use them. None of your fighters can use them. I think there is a paranoid ship that can but you never see them around." How had I missed that!?! I felt anger building up inside of me but I only had myself to blame. That's what I get for not researching enough. "The good news though is that since we have production costs down to 40k credits you can sell them in Cloudbase south east for 66k and make a heck of a profit, though it take forever to make them."

"Damn it Miles, I need a good missile for my ships. The wasps didn't pack enough of a punch for what I want."

"Have you considered silkworms? They aren't swarm missiles but they pack a good punch for a fighter missile." Truth be told I had not considered silkworms. I had been so focased on swarm missiles that I had blown past single warhead designs. So another investment later i was back at the Complex picking up my first load of silkworm missiles.

---

"Red three I got your six, firing missile now." I said as I let loose a silkworm obliterating the L that had been tailing Red three. I was loving the new silkworms. One hit could cripple most heavy fighters and two hits killed most. There was some finesse to getting that hit mind you. Most pilots given a chance will shot the missile out of the sky so it is best to be behind them when you launch, and if they have a rear turret you needed to be fairly close as well.

"Hey Boss, just wanted to let you know I bought an express. I know tha...."

"Gizmo I am a little busy right now!" I said as i cut across the path of a M raking it with my cannons and sending it into a tailspin ending in a ball of fury.

"Oh, sorry boss. I forget that you biologicals can't multitask like I can." I barrolrolled to the left as two Ms came up behind me pouring fire down my back. I pulled back hard on the flight stick and flipped my ship.... in time to see Frankie swoop through and kill both Ns in one burst of fire.

"WooHoo! I gotcha sir. Two more dead Transformers!" I waved my wing in thanks as we head to finsih off the rest of the Xenon. It didn't take long.

"Gizmo, now that I am not in a life or death battle, what were you talking about earlier?"

"Oh just that I bought an eclipse for you."

"Ok? Why?"

"Well you have been saying for awhile that you wanted to started capturing bigger ships... so you need a marine force... amd a ship to launch them from. Well here is your ship!" I pulled its states up to review them. At 150m/s it had a decent speed that should be able to catch most m6s. It could hold up to 40 marines. Light shielding though, have to be careful about that. No guns... No guns what so ever. But other than that it looked like a really decent ship... except that I had no marines.

"Gizmo where am I going to get marines at? it isn't like there are many of them just floating around."

"Well boss I am not to sure but I think the Military Base at Elaine's Fortune might be a good place to start. You know lots of ex-military types and all."

Actually that sounded like a really good place to start.

(1)This was the cost to produce in LUV 1.3.4 (10k). After installing 1.3.6 the price jumped to 20k. Note the average price(and the price I pay at a EQ) was 16k and after 1.3.6 is 32k.
(2)Again this is the price in LUV 1.3.4. After 1.3.6 it jumped to 80k to produce and average of 133k (roughly)

In LUV 1.3.6 Litcube rebalanced all missiles and from what I can tell that meant doubling the cost and time to make them. All of them across the board o.O

I am Boron. But I am not the same. Borons breakout of their eggs to the sight of loving parents and hatchmates. I was hatched in an incubator to the arms of my slavemasters. Borons grow up in a loving home and are taught the ways of peave and love. I grew up in a slavepen and had killed another Boron by age three. Borons are given a name that their family knows them by. I answer to "squid" or "slave". On my fourth birthday I was given a knife, thrust into a ring with nine other Borons and told that if we did not fight to the death then we would all be shot. I was the only survivor.

By the time I was fifteen I was the prize fighter of the deathmatchs. I had killed with every weapon that could be thought of. I had killed with guns, with knives, with my own bare tentacles. It wasn't only other Boron I killed. I killed Argonians. I killed Terrans. I killed Paranoid. I killed khaak. And I loved killing the Split that they throw in with me. I was destined for the short and glorious life of the gladiator.

And then they messed up. It just took one drunk guard who got just an inch to close to me. But an inch was close enough. I killed that guard, and freed myself from that hellhole.

But I didn't stop there. I killed them. I killed them all. Man, woman, and child; I killed them all. And when I was done I left. I took a ship and left. I still don't know how I figured out how to fly it, but I was always good about that kind of thing.

I managed to make my way across the cosmos till I found others like me. But I didn't fit in. I didn't fit in at all. So I set out from them and tried to find some reason for it all. Instead I found a job. Turns out they pay people of my talents very well.

I suppose that that is how I ended up here, chained to a wall, behind an electromagnetic fence. You see I guess the Split had a reward out for me. But it had been years, I didn't even know that they still cared. Though I guess you would too if I killed hundreds of YOUR people in a single night. I thought it was just another contract. And I guess it half way was. I met them on their ship, a centaur in the Argon sector of Three Worlds. I was paraded into a central room with the captain of the ship in a throne at one end and marines all around. It wasn't the first time someone wanted a little extra protection when I was in a room. And then they asked me to assassinate some Argon name McCloud. But I don't do that. Invade a ship, defend a station, even fight on a planet yes. But I am NOT an assassin. And I told him as much. A crooked grin broke out on his face. He told me that if that was the case then the split would pay him handsomly. Thats when it went down. The hair on my tentacles stood on end. The marines leveled their guns. But I was not a prize fighter for nothing. Quick as lightning I snatched knives out from my trenchcoat and throw them. One for each of the two guards closest to me. Two for the smug captain. But there was too many of them even for me. My last sight before the stun blast hit me was of that captain holding his neck where my two knives had struck, his life blood dripping down his neck.

And now I am here. Chained to a wall. I am sure that this ship is still headed for a split slave station. And they are sure that I will soon be dead. But they are wrong. I will escape again. I will NOT be a slave again. And then they will pay. Then they will ALL pay. Oh Phanon, I thrist for the day when I can wrap my tentacles around your neck. You have NOT seen the last of Ninu Na.

There are two thing I have learned from my game about my story.

Frankie is crazy. No matter what ship I assign him to (by adding his name to the end of it's name) he is the first one in and the last one out. And half the time he doesn't listen to my orders. "What every other ship has pulled out and it's just me, a pirate morrigu and there is a pirate armanda headed my way? Let me finish off this Morrigu(m6) from my Nova real quick"

And

Nina Nu is SCARY. You will soon meet him. And then you will soon see what I mean about him being scary. The GAME gave me this character. The GAME created him, not me.

Elaine's Outpost was a massive structure. It easily dwarfed the trade station that I was used to. Though considering it purpose and location it did seem fitting. The Outpost was the front line defense against the pirate armadas that occupied all of the surrounding sectors and it was the only thing that kept the pirates from running ramput through out the federation. Sure pirates frequently got through but from my past experiances in pirate country I was glad this station was here keeping the majority of the pirates at bay.

I watched as the station slowly grew in size. Frankie was guiding us in to dock while Kar'l and I watched. The express that I had, I mean that Gizmo had, bought was very luxueous. It was from the same family as the mercury, however where the murcury focused on cargobay size, the express focused on the comfort of it's passengers as well as raw speed. Able to achieve a max speed of 150m/s it could outrun most other ships excluding the light fighters. The down side was the complete lack of any kind of weaponry.

"What kind of marines are we looking for sir?" Frankie asked

"Is there more then one type? I haven't really dealt with them before." Frankie just shrugged in reply

"I say we should get split warriors. Much superior to wear little Argonians." Kar'l teased

"Watch it pal, or I'll take away your spacefuel." I replied. Kar'l fieghted horror at the very idea.

"No not my Spacefuel!" The big man replied. I chuckled at the ludicus idea of trying to take away his alcohol. Easier said then done that one. I winced as the express, that we had fondly dubbed the Marine Lander, thudded to a landing.

"Sorry about that guys, the gravity is set higher in here then I am used to." Yeah thats the problem I thought as I grabbed some gear and headed off the ship. "So where are we going to find the marines?"

"Good question, any suggestions?"

"Bars. Marines love bars." Kar'l replied

"Is that what it is or is it just that you love bars?" I teased

"Now that you mention it I could go for a drink." Really though it was not a bad idea, so after asking Gizmo for directions we head for one of the local bars. The Broken Phaser was a small bar as far as I could tell with only ten tables and half of those empty. However the bartender was kind and, after I explained what I was looking for, he pointed out to men sitting at a table working over a couple of beers. I bought a couple drinks to thank him for his time and then headed to introduce myself. The two marines were of the usual marine variety, tough looking large and muscled, and each had several blaster strapped to various places of their body.

"Hi, My name is McCloud," I started "I'm looking to hire some marines, intrested?" The duo looked at each other and then the older of the two stood up and extended his hand to me.

"I'm Kaylen Kult former Major of the Argonian Marine force. This is my friend, formor first lieutenant Liom Rider. Have a seat and tell us what you have in mind." I took his offer and sat down opposite of them, Kar'l and Frankie sitting down on either side of me.

"This is wing commander Frankie, and wing commander Kar'l. I run Dragon Company, and I have found myself in need of boarding and capturing enem..." I stopped as both of the marines tensed up their hands suddenly falling close to their sidearms. Shit. What did I say wrong?

"Hold up their chief. You mean to say that your pirates?" Kult said "We dont take kindly to pirates around here."

"Oh, god no! We are licensed military contractors with security licenses from both the Argon and Boron Governments. We HUNT pirates." Both of the marines viably relaxed.

"Well in that case what do you need us for?

"As our combat effectiveness rises the military keep issuing us heavier and heavier contracts. Recently we have faced and destroyed a Xenon P and it is only a matter of time before we find ourselves facing a pirate corvette. It is my opinion that it is a horrible waste of resources to destory such a valuable resource which with the help of some skilled individuals such as your selves we could capture it."

"So in short you want us to jump out of a ship, fly to another ship and kill everyone onboard?" The two marines looked at each other and then back to me. "We could be down for that. How many more marines do you have already?"

"Well thats the second part of what I need a well trained marine for. As far as marines go, I can't tell the wheat from the chaff and I don't know two shits about boarding operations. I need someone who can put together a team, on a budget, and then get the job done." Kult leaned back thinking for a minute.

"You said corvettes right? Ok then we won't need to big of a team. A couple of specialists and some luck will go a long way. I know a couple of guys that might be up for it. They don't have any combat experiance but they have plent in the other nessasary areas and me and Liom here can do the heavy lifting when it comes to the fighting. Ok I'll get a team together. When do we need to be ready?"

"I'm not sure, my assistant Gizmo will keep up to date about when the dragons are doing active ops and if we encounter a ship we need you for the marine Lander is equiped with a jumpdrive to get you straight to the action."

"I'll need a couple of days to get everything together and then after that we will be awaiting your call."

---

It turned out to be several weeks before I needed their services. In the course of our work we did run iton several corvettes, but each time something interfered. The first one was a Xenon P in Ringo Moon; however Gizmo informed me that it was very dangerous to try and takeout a Xenon ships, so we destroyed it. In red light we ran across a Pirate Centuar, however a local military patrol refused to let us capture it and instead they destroyed it with a well placed missile. In cloudbase southeast we came across another pirate vessle harrasing a Mammoth. We quickly moved to help only to have the mammoth destroy the ship. But then oppertunity struck.

---

"Hey Boss, wake up!" I rubbed my eyes as i sat up in bed.

"Gizmo it s three in the morning what is so important?"

"One of my UTs just got attacked in Argon Prime! I managed to get it to safety but their attackers are still there!"

"What who would dare to attack one of my ships in a core Argon sector? Did the police help?"

"It's Phanon! Well actually it's a ship registered to Nova Co. But I checked back and Nova is owned by Phanon. And because you declared war on them, oh so long ago, they have every right to attack us with out interferance from the authorities!" That made me sit up straight. "And there's more! I Hacked into the ships files and found the mission it's on. It is assigned to hunt down anyting you own, and there is even a 50m credit reward if they can confirm your death!" Phanon was hunting me!?!

"What kind of ship attacked? Where is it at now? Where is it headed?"

"It's a Centuar, but it has an escort of four heavy fighters, three light fighters and five scouts. it is in Argon Prime and according to it's flight plan it is headed for Elaine's Fortian. That was a lot of fighters but red and blue wing both were up to six fighters a peice.... this just might be do able!

"Rouse the pilots Gizmo, Call Major Kult and have him meet me in President's End. We are going to set up an ambuse." I grinned from ear to ear, Time for a little payback!

Following your story with interest, as I am also very fond of Litcube's fantastic... mod. Well, mod is too small a word, I would call it "Rebirth" of X3:AP.

Maybe you could also post your game time in your assets at the end, if you don't mind. It is always interesting to see how others get along in the game.

hmm I can start doing that.... but not soon. I usually only write when I have downtime at work, which mean I run several days behind. Right now I know my game just got to game day 6.
Spoiler
Show
At game day six I have 3 frigates, 5 corvettes and 9 heavy fighters(five in one of the frigates and 4 in a TM) Though I have also captured and sold LOTS of corvettes as well as getting rid of all of my light fighters because they are not really combat worthy anymore. I also have 40+ UTs and the missile complex is as self run as I intend to make it (I only have to import crystals, Ore, and silicon.)
I think though at this point I am on game day 3 or 4? I know it was a week ago or so.

Waiting sucked. Anticiapation sucked. I checked my gravidar again still no contacts. Out my left window I could see blue and red wings both in formation waiting... Out my right window the Marine Lander set just waiting...

"Gizmo, what is the position of the enemy fleet?"

"The Enemy fleet is 5km off the east gate of Home of light and closing fast."

"Composition?"

"Boss, it looks like one Centaur with 4 heavy fighters, 3 light fighters and 5 scout ships."

Me and the rest of the dragons were sitting 25km northeast of the west gate in President's End, where any minute now the ships that Phanon had sent to kill me were going to emerge.

"McCloud to Dragons, Look alive the enemy will be jumping in any minute now. Remember you are to hold position until I give the word. And DONT YOU DARE HURT THAT CORVETTE. Attack it's shields only and let that marines do the rest." A few yes sirs made me feel a litle better. If we can hunt down and kill a Xenon P with half this much fire power then surely we can take a centaur.

Waiting...Waiting...Wait--- CONTACT!

The Centaur emerged first but was quickly followed by the fighters. They must have seen us fast as they were soon headed our way.

"Hey boss, the centaur is hailing us." Oh great I thought as I opened up the comms to find a smug looking argonian sitting in a small black bridge.

"Ah you must be the William. I am acting captain Johnathian Plaid. If you would be so kind as to dismiss your escort and beam yourself onto my ship it would save so many lives" He finished with a visious smile.

"That's a negative, but let me offer you a counter. Power down your engines and surrender YOUR ships and I'll let you live. You have five seconds." I cut the line before he could say anything back. The Nova ships kept creeping towards us with no signs of stoping. One second,
Two seconds, Three Seconds...

"Alright buddy you had your chance." I said to myself, and then I unleashed hell. Four wasp swarms for each scout ship. Three wasp swarms and a silkworm for each light fighter. Two wasp swarms and four silkworms for each heavy fighter. Was it overkill? Heck yes. But it was fun. And i got to watch in awe as hundreds of my warheads streamed towards the enemy.

"Frak that's a lot of warheads."

"340 to be exact, boss. About 1.3 GJ of explosives, enough to theoretically kill any corvette and make a serious dent in the shields of a frigate."

"Yeah and it only cost me an arm and a leg..."

"Well I dont know the value of an arm or a leg but the barrage cost about 700k credits." I watched my almost million dollar investment close in with the enemy fleet who were try desperatly to find a way to evade or destroy the missiles, but it was hopeless. The entire space around them was filled with explosions as warhead after warhead found it's target. And then it was over. And from the smoke only the Centaur emerged... Just as I planned.

"Alright dragons you have the green light. Remember dont scratch the paint!" I smiled as the dragons raced off towards the corvette. I on the other hand had no intention of participating in the dogfight. Pulling up the transporter controls I beamed my self aboard the Marine Lander and face to face with Major Kult. A confused look crossed his face.

"Sir? What are you doing here? Doesn't the fighter wing need you?"

"Not today. I am joinning you and your men for the boarding op."

"What? No sir that is no the place for fighter jockies like you. You and my paycheck will be much safer back in your fighter."

"If you want you paycheck signed I think you better remember who gives the orders around here and shut your trap. I have no intention of ordering anyone to do something that I am not willing to do. And to prove that I am going with you."

"Fine sir. But promise to stay back ok? I don't want you to be exposed in anyway." He said before turning to one of the other marines who was suiting up behind him, "Lt. Jenkins, You have the task of keeping the boss man here safe, got it?" The marine snapped a quick yessir before resuming his task.

"Alright boss, suit up. I feel the engines rumbling so it must be close to time." I quickly suited up and took my place next to the other marines. The cargobay we were in was designed just for quickly jumping ship with doors the open quickly in an outwardly direction allowing the marines to be sucked into space by the void and give them a little extra boost on their way to the target. I just hoped it would be enough. A light by the door changed from red to yellow, showing that the time was near, and then from yellow to a red light that blicked three times before the doors blew open and sucked us into space.

I had been on many of space walks before. Sometimes to gase at the stars but usually to repair some ship or another. But it was entirely diffrent then being sucked out of a ship going over 300 miles per hour and flying straight at another ship going over 200 miles per hour(1). Luckily the suits were designed for this and the auto pilot took over and managed to safely grasp onto the frigate. My heart was pounding though. I stood up on the side and made my way towards the other marines who were already in the process of cutting through the hull. Not sure what to do I looked around and saw the Marine Lander and the dragons headed away from the frigate and towards saftey.... And leaving us all alone.

"Sir are you coming?" Kult asked. Glancing back to the marines i find that they have already cut through the hull and Kult was the last one waiting on me.I made my way over to the hole and lept climbed through... and promptly fell on my head as the artificial gravity pulled be down to the floor. Major kult on the other hand landed gracefully like a cat. A cat with a fully automatic pulse rifle scanning the hallways for enemies. But there weren't any. the rest of the marine had taken up position while I got my self together and then we started on our way. The going was slow as the marines had to clear every room on the hallway to make sure no one got behind us. But this appeared to be a ghost ship.

"Where is everyone?"

"Most likely further into the ship. No since in risking the lives of the crew on the outer part of the ship in case of decompression." That made since I guess. We worked our way through the ship still finding it empty untill we came to an airlock that allowed us access to the second level of the ship. Which still felt like a ghost ship. And then into the third level of the ship. On entering the third level the marines split to each side to cover two doors. Opening both they rushed in. the sound of a pulse rifle echoed though the corridor from the room on the left and then..

"Umm commander? You might want to see this." I walked into the room to find myself in the brig. A dead soldier laid on the far wall where kult had shot him dead and behind the energy shield a boron was chained to the wall.

"Can you get him down?"

"Private Gomez, get this shield down!" He shouted to one of the other marines who ran to the terminal and started to hack it. "Are you sure this is a good idea boss, he was locked up in the brig after all."

"Any enemy of my enemy is my friend major."

"Yeah but why did they go through all of the effort of chainning him to the wall? you would think that the energy field would be enough."

"I dont know but we will find out later." The shield fell as Gomez finished the hack. I went up to the boron and undid his shackels and eased him back onto the ground. To my suprise he stood up on his own with a vigor I didn't expect from a boron. "Whats your name? I asked but the boron just looked at me. Something in his gase sent shivers down my spine. "Ok just stick close to us and we will have you out of here soon enough." Pulse rifle fire brought me back to the situation at hand.

"Major, we have contacts! They just rushed into the bridge."

"Shit, well no one said this was going to be easy I bet they have a decent defensive position in there. Ok Liom your on me were going to beach that room and show teach them a lesson." The marines moved forward and pressed the button to open the door.... which didn't move, locked from the inside. No problem though as the marines had brought ample explosives, which they now placed on the door and...

BOOM!

The explosiong from the door stunned me a little, but out of the corner of my eye I cought a glimpse of blue as the boron rushed around my marines and into the bridge. Sounds of laser fire quickly sounded off.

"FRAK!" Kult screamed, "GO,GO,GO!" He said rushing into the room with the rest of the marines right behind him. But it was strangely quite now. There was no more laser fire. Curious I steped up to the door and walked onto the bridge. The sight before my eyes stunned me. The boron was standing in the middle of the room with two dead marines dangling from two of his tentacles while in the other two he held pulse rifles now pointed down at the floor. The room was covered in blood and numerous dead bodies lie everywhere with rifle holes all threw out them. Dropping the dead marines and the rifles the boron turned towards me, his front covered from head to toe in blood.

"The marines called you commander. Do you have another name?" He asked slowly, enunciating every syllable.

"My name is William McCloud. Yours?" The Boron just smiled.

"How ironic, the very man that they had wanted me to kill."

"To kill what do you mean?"

"You see commander, they had asked me here to ask me to kill you. I of course refused as I am not an assasin." Looking around I found that really hard to believe. "You saved my life and for that i owe you a blood debt. Also you are in a feud with Phanon are you not?"

"I guess... He killed my father and stole nearly everything that I had. Since then I have dedicated myself to traking him down and killing him."

"Good, good. I also want to see this Phanon dead. I think i will follow you for a while. Together we will bring Phanon to his knees. No one chains Nina Nu and lives to tell about it."

"Is that your name, Nina Nu?"

"It is the name that was given to me." And that was the last I could get out of him.

I tried to get him to talk more but he would just stare off or shrug. The marines wasted no time in hacking into the ships systems and gainning control over the ship. And then they searched through out the ship and rounded up the rest of the formor crew. Kult asked me what to do with them and i told him to transport them over to the brig into a locked room on the marine lander and we would drop them off at the nearest station. I assigned the marines to the task of taking the Centaur to the equipment dock in Cloudbase Southeast and sent a message to Miles asking him to find me a crew for it. Then I transported myself, Major Kult and Nina Nu back to the Marine Lander and headed home.(2)

---

I was sitting in the lounge at my office with Kar'l, Frankie, and Major Kult situated around the room. Kar'l had a flask in his hand that he was passing back and for with me while Frankie went over flight records and Kult was thumbing through some paper work for some new marines who had wanted to join up. Borons of all things.

"Can you believe this?" Kult asked, "No sooner then we get back and word gets out that we rescued Nina Nu then five Borons start appllying here. They have no skills what so ever and some of them don't even know how to fight but we could use the extra bodies." Kar'l sat straight up all of a sudden spewing spacefuel allover the paper that frankie was going over.

"Did you say Nina Nu?" He asked eyes wide open.

"Yeah you hadn't heard? Why?" Kult replied

Taking another swig of his flask Kar'l set back and started explaining, "Many a year ago there was a Boron slave by that name who escaped killing hundreds of my kind in the process. He was feirce and brutal."

"Is there going to be a problem between you two?" I asked the last thing I need was a fight between them... and from what I had seen yestorday it was a fight Kar'l would lose.

"No, it was not my family that was slain. I have much respect for him. To kill so many heavily armed split warriors. He must be a might warrior himself. I must challenge him to a sparing match and see who is better."

"Carefull with that," I advised, "If you had seen what I saw yestorday you might want to rethink that."

"No one should have survived that," Kult inserted, "Walking into a room with 7 marines waiting on you? And the to kill them with their own weapons? You do know thats where he got those pulse rifles from right? He killed those two marines with his bare tenticales, snapped their necks clean in half, and then took the rifles from their lifeless hands and slaughtered the rest of the marines." It still sent shivers down my spine everytime I thought about it.

"Yeah, Im just glad he is on our side." Frankie threw in, "He is on our side isn't he?"

Nice description of a boarding op, would like to read more dirty details of other ops. When playing myself things are always a bit abstract, basically a number game. Stories like yours beef that up a bit.

That description you wrote made me think of my next steps in my yet early day 1 game. Was actually thinking of getting Split rep 6, buying an Apallox, get other reps to 5 or 6, buy Split Elephant and start building stations en masse (lots of profit there).

Now... well, I think the Boron Hydra can hold 12 marines if I am not mistaken. Boarding sounds like fun... :-) But the be honest, never done it before, though.

Oh I forgot that I had a mammoth that I just bought just for missions building lol. It makes me lots of money.
As far as boarding goes I came to love boarding from a TP. Put 40 marines in it, order you assault craft to attack shields(Make sure you give orders to your turrets ahead of time not to fire on the to be captured ship! When I first started board(not this game) I lost several potential ships to turrets not set up right. I use the custom command set to 1)kill missiles 2)kill fighters and that is it), then fl in close and launch the marines!. I use the board ship option because I am a key board player for the most part and find it fast to hit Ctr-C, 4(piratecy),enter, enter, enter. Some times it throws the ops off though and then you have to pick up the marines again and redeploy. One trick though is after you have stripped the escorts and shieds from a ship it will usually start to retreat towards a gate it will flysreally straight and that is when I do my boarding ops. Then if it gets closer to the gate and you still dont have the marines on board I will jump to the gate and immeadiately kick every marine out of my cargo bay(right in front of the gate, then move off a little and watch the ship fly right into my marines on it's way to the jump gate. :D

Recently I captured a Phantom (thank you Phanon!) and it can launch boarding pods! it make boarding SO much easier and more fun. It also has good shielding and good weapon energy. I out fit it with Cigs all around with the turrets set to my custom(to kill any stray fighters/missiles) and then use the four main Cigs to bring down the shields and then I get in close (200-400m) and launch the boarding pods!!! You have to make sure to get close though or the enemy turrets will blow you marines out of the sky. Well thats my boarding guide in a wrap lol.

Over the next couple of chapter I'll be "using marines" to repair corvettes rather frequently. This is pure storyline. In reality I wedged my mouse button down and watched some tv or killed some zombies. I tried installing marine repairs at one point (on a diffrent install of LU mind you) but I didn't do it right and gave up. I am considering installing XM-R cus I am starting to hate the taste of vanilla missions lol

just thought yall needed to know

Well such is life, try again tomorrow lol

(I went to hit the submit button for the content and it asked me to log on and when I did the whole thing was lost :( )
On some forums when that happens you can use the browsers back button (usually twice) and be able to see the post you were working on again, sometimes you just get a prompt to resubmit the field data... most of the time you can usually get what you typed back through just messing about with that or even the history sometimes.

The safest way though when making a long post is to do it in either notepad or the old MS Wordpad then copy and paste it...

Note: I checked some footage I have of an upcomming battle and realised that I only got 5 borons + Ninu Na from that first op. So I went back and edited the post for accuracy.

I have to cut todays short, i didn't have as much time as i thought I was going to and now i dont want to get started on the next part and run out of time and not give ya'll anything at all :D anyhow hope ya'll enjoy!

----------

"Main cannons, Fire!" My new XO, Rick Jones, shouted. Twin blue beam shot out of the forward cannons as the two ion pulse generators fired in tandom, and were quickly followed by six globs of green plasma from the HEPTs. The astroid didn't seem to care.

"As you see sir, the twin IPG deal a nasty blow and the HEPTs offer the ability to continously deal damage while the IPGs warm back up. Centuars weren't really made to continously dish out heavy weapon fire like the heavy centuars which is why I went with the combination of HEPTs to supliment the damage from the IPGs." Several weeks ago I had asked Miles to see to the repairs and manning the Centuar I had captured in President's End. In his usual manner, Miles had delegated. Instead of doing the man hunt himself, in addition to his other duties, he had hired Jones to oversee the job. Jones had gone about getting the repairs done, selling the older equipment off of it (well 6 of the 8 IPGs anyhow) overhauling the engines and hold, installing the new weapons and shielding, and finally signing on a crew. I had meet with him on several occasions durring the refit to check on progress, but this was my first time actually inside of the ship since we captured it. Jones had done an amazing job on the refit, everything had changed. Gone were the plain grey walls smeared in blood and pock-a-dotted with rifle fire. In was a two tone color set the somehow made the entire ship feel bigger and alive somehow.

We were standing on the bridge, me, Kar'l, Frankie, Elaine, Valse, Kult, and Ninu Na, as well as Jones and the three crewmen who were manning the controls. It was cramped. It was VERY cramped. The bridge on the Centuar was only barely big enough to be called such. There was a command chair against the back wall facing the main veiwport and overlooking the three control stations; Tactical(weapons, missiles, ect.), Operations(shield and hull status, engine status, ect.), and the Helm(you know, flying the ship and shit). The funny part though was that you could override all three stations from the command chair which kinda made them redundent. As of right now though, the command chair was empty (I was tempted to set down but as crowded as the room was I wouldn't be able to see anything), the three crewmen(whose names I do not know) were sitting at the control stations, and the other eight of us were trying to stand in a space that was not designed to fit three people comfortably.

"That seems to be fine XO," I stated, "May I suggest we continue the tour somewhere we all might fit?" Jones seemed a little crest fallen about not getting to show off the centaur more, but I was getting really claustrophobic. Jones showed us off the bridge and started showing us the rest of the ship. Valse was eating it up like candie. Frankie and Kar'l were being very academic about it, asking questions and making observations. Ninu Na was well he was being Nina Nu... He said nothing but took in everything. Since me and Kult had already throughly been threw out the ship we hung to the back of the group to talk.

"So what do you think?" I asked

"About the ship? Well it's Argon made so you know it's a well rounded ship. I think I'll keep my boys over on the Marine Lander though, it's much friendlier to marines. This ship could use some as security but It can't house enough of us to really be able to be an effective boarding crew. Too few and the ship is too slow."

"That's fine, I don't want your men in here anyhow." I said laughing "How about the Boron, can you make use of him?"

"I don't know, its impossible to talk to him. And I don't just mean hard, he won't say anything!" I glanced to the boron to see if he heard Kult's outburst but he was just staring at one of the walls. "Oh sorry sir. Anyhow, next time we are on an Op I'll take him with and keep him close to me and Liom. If he does anything funny we'll keep an eye on him. Oh by the way I hired some new guys, seven of them, that seemed pretty alright. Your finance guy, Gizmo? He autherized it." I nodded my head in acceptance

"We will defiantly need them. I don't know when the next time we run across a chance to board a ship will be but when it gets here I'll need all the help I can get."

"In regards to that I felt that a lot of the men, especially those borons we picked up, could use with some more learning. I enrolled them and the new guys in some classes at the Outpost. But while they are in school, our original team plus Ninu Na, and one other new guy who actually knows what the diffrence between a door and a marine is, are ready to go."

"Good, I don't plan on waiting to long. Once this tour is over I'll need you to take Elaine and Valse back home, and at the same I am going to take the Centaur and the Dragons and go hunting. So be ready."

Our tour finally came to a stop in the ready room adjacent to the command center. I stepped to the front of the group.

"Alright everyone, I hope you have enjoyed the tour, but it's time to go. Elaine, Mr. Kult will show you and Valse to the Marine Lander which will take you back home. Kar'l, Frankie, get the dragons ready. I want to run field tests in an hour. And by field tests I mean dead Xenon. I have a contract to patrol north from here to Antigone Memorial that starts in an hour, I want everyone breifed and ready to go." Finally I turned to Jones. "Mr. Jones, thank you for the tour but for me to really get a feel of the ship, I need to take her into combat. Please prep the crew and have them ready. In the mean time I will be in here familiarizing myself with the ship specs. Ok? Everyones dismissed."
