Why Solitaire is a better game than Minesweeper

Post by Kailric »

After three months playing Minesweeper and being disappointed by the slowness, time-consuming gameplay and shameless lack of proper documentation, I ordered a copy of Solitaire two weeks ago. I knew this game was already more than a century old, but I do not regret I bought it! Boy!, that's an super game. Much better than Minesweeper.
Let me sum up all the advantages Solitaire has over Minesweeper:

- Graphics run more smooth (and are swell). In my current resolution of 600x400 it plays like a slidshow!

- Convincing experience of being alone, especially near freinds and neighbors. (More than in Minesweeper)

- Strategy is much more entertaining and rewarding

- Animations are awesome (holywood quality), making the game much more fascinating than in Minesweeper.

- The music is very appropriate, epecially when you put in your favorite CD

- The game is totally bug-free (version 5.1 still running perfect all over the place!)

- There is much more clicking in the gameplay (physically and mentally)

- Continuous communication will all the surrounding friends and neighbors is totally obsent, which make you feel you're really alone, as the game emplys.

- display is larger, giving maximum space view on screen, blocking more of the same old wallpaper I have seen sence last I installed a new wallpaper, much better than in Minesweeper

Advantages Minesweeper over Solitaire:
That intence feeling you get just before you click on a square...never knowing if your gonna here the seat jerking explosion letting you know you hit a mine!!

On the whole one can say that Solitaire is much more entertaining and a (put your favorite smiley here) to play than Minesweeper. The only thing Solitaire is missing is the seat jerking explosion . But that is just a matter of new generation sound effects that could be realized in a next version.

I have played Minesweeper three months, completing all the missions and reaching the highest level. Although I liked the beauty of the game, I was frustrated many times by the unnecessary intracacy (hmm, just what is that) of the gameplay. But since I don't like to give up, I played it till the end, not knowing that a much better game was waiting for me all the while (for more than a decade!). It was only because of Minesweeper that I heard about Solitaire.

Since I have Solitaire I am not playing Minesweeper anymore. I do hope some day Microsoft will develop a sequel or new version of Solitaire. With the seat jerking explosion . Till then, I'll happily do without!

My impression is that the developers of Minesweeper wanted to make an really awesome game. In that they succeeded, but the game is unplayable and not entertaining and thats about it.

Just wish I could play Solitaire in X2 space thats all...maybe in the next patch

Solitare is based off luck. Minesweeper is all about skill(after the first hit at least). Therefore Minesweeper is the better game.

Minesweeper is an fine game. I got into it when my sister said she could not finish it on 'Expert' mode. Naturally, I was forced to set a high-score (or 'low-score', since it's a timed game) as to prove to her (and myself) that I am the more intelligent. She is still 'leet' at free cell tho'.

It's the sort of game that gives you great satisfaction when you pull off a masterpiece of logicical deduction, but leaves you frustrated when you're taken down by a cheeky '1' that escaped you concentration. The school-boy errors are the worst.

I dunno--I found there was nothing more to look forward to in Minesweeper once I'd completed it on basic level in 8 seconds flat. After that it joined the growing ranks of games gathering dust on my shelf...

A fair handed appraisal of the pros and cons of both mine sweeper and solitaire.

I feel however you where a little harsh in your comments about mine sweeper, What are you on, if you gave it a bit more time and used your imagination you would get a lot more out of it. You could have set your own goals like clearing the squares in a way that could spell your name, I personally enjoy clearing them alternately clock wise then counter clockwise. I have also turned the contrast on my monitor right up, set the screen to a strong blue hue and play it when I'm stinking drunk...... IT'S LIKE PLAYING A WHOLE NEW GAME!!!!!!!

If you try these ideas I feel your time would be better spent, rather than come here and let rip with your unwanted opinions. But like so many people you had unrealistically high expectation for mine sweeper,
and when you didn't get exactly what it said on the box, you decided to come here and cry hysterically about it, go and play something else and never play mine sweeper again, see if I care, because I think it is great ...... and your not.

Ok, I at least had the decency to go back and capitolize Minesweeper..as I just had it lower case before. I guess in the disapointment of it all I didn't have enough respec for it, but sence reading serveral of your replys I have changed my mind. I at least waisted three months of my life playing this game, when I could have been watching my favorite episodes of "The Family Guy" and DVD...so I figure its do that much repect.

and Triple-F (I wouldn't name my dog Triple-F) if I was great..I'd..hmm..well I'd be...doing...about the same thing really.

Also, with Minesweper, you'd don't have the anisotropic filtering and dx9b complexities that solitare demands!

Don't underestimate Minesweeper, patch 1.4 will be curing the problem of "B*stard mines", the ones where it is impossible to tell if they are mines or clear water, resulting in you having to guess. With no Save feature this can be frustrating.
The growing modding community is also releasing some very interesting work.
The MMM (Massive Mines Mod) is well worth installing and adds a lot to the game, such as the occasional Tug boat that runs aground, leaving the crew to abandon ship and you have to rescue them before they drown. There is also an optional Massive Map that has 4096x4096 squares, although some people find it takes too long to get from one edge of the map to the other.

whilst both are great games I think you're all missing the fact that Pong is the original and best.

Neither live up to the classic Pong.

What is a shame is the lack of story.

Perhaps a more '24' like approach should be introduced into the plot.

anon1 wrote:I don't know what do you think but talking about the worst game the only thing that I have to say is that solitaire is so boring, I have to expend a lot of time making progress in the more boring ways so I can do a single piece of something that can be destroy so easily.

If you know how to make progress faster please tell me.

But the ones that hurt the most are the ones that do not live up to expectation or the hype. I that sense I think Solitaire is the ringleader with minesweeper a close second.
slightly altered "direct" quotes from elsewhere. Supposedly 2 diff peeps too
