[MOD][S] ButterRanges v1.05 (12 Oct. 2014)

Hi there !


I've made ButterRanges to increase scan ranges for trade offers, platforms, mission offers and Info points.
The distances to unlock commissions and discounts have also been increased.

The goal of ButterRanges is to balance those ranges to not be bored by slaloming between buildings, and to not feel like you were cheating.

This mod is compatible with every other mods, except those who modify ranges.

Installation :
Just subscribe to the mod on Steam Workshop, that's all ;)

I think i can do all of those things by modifying the file targetsystem.xpl, which seems to be obscure...
For the moment i'm trying to decompile this file.

That's it.
For the moment, the dock distance is at 750m, i would like to push it between 1.5 and 2.25 km, i will see the best for balance.

Ok.

I've somehow managed to extract the targetsystem.xpl file and i'm pretty sure that what i need is in it.
But the extracted file is broken and i can't work on it for now.

As i'm not a dev or a codder, I have to wait for a tool. From Egosoft or either the community.

good, very needed mod, thanks!! Since you're xperimentig with scanner, any guess how to make zones be revealed from bigger distance? I removed the local highways so player needs to "see" the zone from the distant empty space

What you want is to increase LODs and view distance I think. It's not like the scanner.
I was going to modify those settings for me. When I back to home I'll check this and maybe add some profiles, for low end and high end rigs, to the mod (LODs and view distance are very resource hungry)

Does this also make seeing cargoes floating easier or did you set it just for icons on stations? In battle when you need to kill more than one ship, the cargo gets lost because the scanner range is so short.

The mod only affects stations icons for now.
This is not really a "scanner" problem. The game just wants to show you only 'some' targets, in general the nearest ones. That's what I'm trying to modify but I have some problems to extract the required files.

This mod already exists. It's called the 5kScanRange mod.

Maybe the OP is not enough explicit. I'll modify it later.

5kmScanRange mod is a good thing for new players cause it increases a lot scan ranges and memory times of offers.

My mod does not modify the global gameplay and scan ranges are lower than the other mod, and it's also increase Discount and missons zones.
I also have more things that I want to add in the mod.

Thanks for this, I think 2 or 3kms is perfect, 5kms feels too much like cheating.
What would be great, is if those info points were more reliable, i honestly don't mind doing it, as you do get a reward in major discounts and rep. But info points behave irregularly, depending on distance and angle. Many time they wont appear or even disappear as approaching. If a mod can be added to make them 100% visable from a certain distance it would be greatly appreciated.
