Request- hair is toxic in space?

Post by nate10587 »

So I came on here to see what work had been done already and was delighted to see a "granny fix" for the npcs and some cosmetic changes underway on yisha...

So yes I know it sounds silly and there are other higher priority things.. but..

Why do all the women in the game not have hair?? Its just bizare.

I would like to see a mod that feminizes the female npcs. Long hair, maybe a couple different styles/colors etc. Make the space suits more feminine too besides them just having boobs.

Im not saying over sexualizing them mind you, they dont have to be walking onto the bridge with D-cups and wearing bikinis or anything.. just make them look like women. :P

It has bugged me to death since I started playing especially with the extremely mismatched voices..

I believe a better question is, why are they ALL brunettes?

The developers may have canceled further character development, as you can see how the graphics look now.

They used Emotion FX or Granny 3D to make/animate the characters and imported them into the game. This is why the models are xac files.

Modding or adding models to this game will be a pain...

I wish they didn't canceled further character development. It a pain by looking at some of these char. I agree with nate. Having long hair and added on looks for different char is not that hard for female it needs to be better looking females and real live dancers for the club and they dance with the VR lol and more add in people in it. Most people in space people are sexy and wild looking and being different and more alien race and wild looking punks and bikers looking and tattooed looking and wild colors and different set of outfits. They used the same old stuff from the old game plus in every different race station but the all seam to be the same. But the xenon people still look like the rest of the character and no alien looking with bad outfit or even mean looking wild with spikes more punk like the last game in X3.

Would be cool if they will add on a expansion packs for this game. I would love to see more stuff added on to this game They need Bethesda Softworks team and some other gaming team lol. I don't mind if they hired more people and start making this game more realistic and more character and story mode for each different ships and races and more aliens and
I wouldn't mind paying another 60 bucks for the game.

Most of the Skyrim hair sets are ports of mods created for Sims 2/3, or ports of hair from Korean MMOs like TERA, etc.

Unfortunately, Egosoft went with the proprietary .xac/.xsm model file format. This means that modeling will suck bad, because 3rd party programs/plugins aren't allowed to support it without a paid license (to the best of my knowledge, at least).

(spacefuel complex's references to EMotion FX or Granny 3D are not jokes about the appearance of the current models -- those are actual programs. )

The best-case scenario would have been to see models in one of the 60 or 70 formats supported by Milkshape3D (a cheap, easy to use modeling program designed specifically for character editing & soft-body animation), because then it would have been possible to start porting mods over from other games with just a few hours of mesh tweaks and rig & bone adjustments.

but sadly that's not an option this time around...

Cant egosoft just add support for these different model files instead of these silly EmotionX and Granny3D shit they currently have?

Kind of wonder why they even Chose that silly fileformat for there models.

EMotion FX or Granny 3D or whatever else they might be using (we don't know for sure -- just that it's something that uses .xac) are animation and rendering packages -- they plug into the game engine to animate things on screen. They're good ones too, tbh. It's just that they suck for modding purposes.

On the one hand, it's nice to see that Egosoft was committed enough to try and make character models work that they were willing to shell out the bucks for a well developed professional rendering package with solid character model and animation support.

On the other hand... they just suck for modding purposes.... and the models in Rebirth are in pretty dire need of some attention...

To be honest Personnally i only see Granny3D as the only good excuse, but the other one...yeah...would have prefered to atleast see beter for modding purposes, and they KNEW modding would be the biggest thing for there games anyhow.

So i am once again stumped at how they made another bad choice, this time being the .xac/xsm as there model format files.

Damn I was really hoping the answer wouldn't be "that will be tough to mod"

Well heres to hoping egosoft either makes it accessible with a different file format.. or hires better character artists. My god i cringe every time i look at an npc. It reeaally distracts from the whole immersion thing they are going for. I would actually really like exploring stations if it wasn't so copy pasta'd and there were attractive females to hunt for to hire haha.

Also maybe more reasons other than junk/a tiny discount? Like maybe research or new weapon unlocks through exploring and conversation?

On the other hand "tough" does not equate with "impossible" so if any modder wants to put in the time i think the accolades would be unceasing from the majority of the community!

In the sense that "we're currently waiting to see if Egosoft will release something similar to the officially licensed Maxis BAT toolset just like they were at the time that particular thread was written", then that thread is relevant, sure.

There is some small glimmer of hope, if only just a little, coming from the statement in Observe's modding guide that creating models is a topic that will be discussed in a future guide. Observe seems to have specific knowledge of the tools Egosoft is planning to release and what they're capable of. Maybe.

So there's that.

Currently, we're just in a "wait and see" mode until Egosoft releases it's own licensed modding toolset and we can find out what's inside it.

With the amount of patching they're currently busy with, though, I'm not holding my breath over that happening right away...

Edit -- deleting some stuff I probably should have taken the time to confirm before posting... I'll add it back in again if it checks out...

So... its not moddable because the devs don't WANT it to be moddable?!!

That's what I am getting here. If that is true, how could they possibly think their current models are acceptable? Even if the long term goal is a reworking, to say they are half baked is probably one of the largest understatements of 2013. They may as well have used wire meshes... it gives the same level of immersion and ugliness.

Not to mention considering all the other things they have to patch and fix.. this would probably take a year or more to get around to looking at. So why wouldn't you say "hey this isn't that important for our liscense, lets let our traditionally exceptional modding community handle this one and get the enjoyment out there faster."

The modding community has made tremendous leaps and bounds in such a short period of time to fix this game. I am honestly astounded how many of the "thats annoying I hope they change this" features have already been solved in only 5 days.

To corral the community away from models just doesn't make any sense no matter how you look at it..

We wont know until the toolkit is released. Then we'll see if there's anything in there.

Waiting sucks, I know. But it's too soon to positively confirm anything.

I imagine that some of the guys wanting to crack into the Lua are feeling some similar emotions right now. =p

Nope. No program out there can mess with Granny, because it uses proprietary filetypes that require the toolkit itself, which can only be obtained by emailing their sales inbox - they don't even list the price on the site.

Look at Age of Empires III, modders around there scrape by with just hacking together existing models. This is a really disappointing move by Egosoft, especially given X's dependance on mods. There might be some truth to the whole console thing after all...they wouldn't have had to worry about it then.

That would also explain the fact they ditched the in-game script editor wich i was finding SOOOO usefull and powerfull.... hard to do that ona console where you dont have keyboard....
